Final Fantasy Mystic Quest: Doom Castle

Музыка

The last area of the game. The music here rocks out pretty hard.

The gameplay isn't even bad, FFMQ was very easy, but that was the intent, it's an easily digested game to serve as a gateway for kids who want to get into JRPGs.

You know how after you finish the Fireburg area and you're traveling through the Focus Tower to the Windia area, you have a brief stop-off in Doom Castle's first area to pick up the Aero spell? I would always spend about a minute there just making Benjamin dance back and forth in the tiny space you have there just so I could rock out to this theme. It's SO awesome.

Very much the same. As I would be returning to my quest, I'd be wondering "what was that place?", "why does it have such grand music?", and "is that the final dungeon? Because that music sounds like final dungeon music." I played FF4 at the same time/age as a kid, and watching my mum going through the Lunar Underground in FF4 and thinking how the music there had the same air of finality (a concept I was too young to grasp at 10 years old).

Truly a great game. It doesn't require you to do so much planning, time wasting, or strategy. BUT the soundtrack will keep you coming back for more! One of the BEST total soundtracks ever put together for a game. These old school RPGs are a lot like the first Conan movie. Not much in the way of dialogue and the music tells the story. This is something modern RPGs tend to lack. I'm looking at you Final Hallway XIII.

Sound track artists today should really take a look at this game for inspiration for today's RPGs. In my opinion, very few can compete with the complete soundtrack of Mystic Quest.

Definitely not, it was composed by Ryuji Sasai and Yasuhiro Kawakami, and you can tell there were two composers as well. For example, the town theme and the battle themes have styles so different they couldn't be the same composer.

Uematsu's earlier work was his best but I think after a while, he just started recycling the same riffs and segments to create his newer works... its all starting to sound the same. I agree though, this game has one of my favorite soundtracks.

You're not alone. So many people are tired of the typical/cliched/generic Uematsu scores now. It's fine until they become self aware and get up themselves. But the soundtrack to this game has balls.
