Filtamp Module 1006 Review - Behringer 2500 series

Ғылым және технология

Getting to grips with the Behringer Filtamp 1006 based upon the ARP 2500 module and designed by Rob Keeble of AMSynths. I'll take you through the features and give you a load of sound examples so you can judge for yourself if it sounds authentic. Please forgive the reverb overdose.
FYI - I bought the modules myself, Behringer hasn't provided them to me or asked for a video. I'm making this video for the curious and to help people trying to get into modular on a small budget.

    Have a few 55 modules in my system. Can be used in combination with other stuff as well without the S-trig dilemma, just as these modules. Anyway... Great in depth review again, as always! Much appreciated. And one can recon the sounds shown here from early Kraftwerk (ARP Odyssey though), but also the Faust sound from the early 70's, as they used the ARP 2500.

    Of course they can. I think my point is more along the lines that these aren't just clones of modules converted to Eurorack but designed to take advantage of the Eurorack format - at least that's my take on it :D

    gate in is for regular adsr, trig in turns it into ar envelope bypassing decay and sustain, unless a gate is also present in which case it just retrigers the envelope from the start.

  • @MoltenMusicTech

    @MoltenMusicTech

    3 жыл бұрын

    No, it doesn’t do that. It triggers the full envelope when the gate is high and only retriggers once the previous envelope has finished. At least that’s what it’s doing for me.

    What oscillator are you using in these demos? Do you find the filter looses a lot of bass with high resonance?

  • @MoltenMusicTech

    @MoltenMusicTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm using an ONA oscillator from Nano and a Make Noise ST0. And yes it's normal to get the signal drop as you increase the resonance. Some filters have compensation for this - the 1006 doesnt.

  • @TimRichardson1984

    @TimRichardson1984

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@MoltenMusicTech Can you recommend any filter which does not lose bass with resonance?

  • @MoltenMusicTech

    @MoltenMusicTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well it depends on the sort of filter you're after because they all have their flavour. A 24dB slope will lose more bass than a 12dB filter. So if you look at 2-pole filters like a Moog ladder type then they will reduce the bass less than more aggressive filters. But that drop is part of the nature of filters because you're sucking in more of the frequencies at the edge of the cutoff as you push resonance up and it's all about finding that balance. However, I can recommend the Wavefonix 2140 which has compensation on a switch www.wavefonix.com/product-page/2140-low-pass-filter Or the Grit from British Electronics which doesn't have a compensation switch as such but when you pile on the distortion that bass doesn't go anywhere.

    It probably boils down to my lack of imagination and novice status as a modular noodler, but I can't fully understand the envelope modules having only one gate input, but two separate envelopes. Besides maybe having a differences between your amp and filter envelopes, it just seems like a missed opportunity. The series 100 dual envelope has separate gates if I'm not mistaken.
