Strongly agree about smaller rings being better. 11 to 13, maybe 15 mm in a pinch is the max for me. Better for writing and better for it feeling like a notebook rather than a giant binder full of stuff. Good video as always

Time well spent. Thank you. This was very interesting as the paper sizing with in an organizer is often overlooked but is very important. Most of the makers leave generous space due to pen holders so when you close it its flush, but i prefer it the same way as your A7. Aligned with edge when closed so you can feel the dividers and can open exactly where you need while taking out of the pocket )

Thanks Mike. You have summed things up better than I could have done, but what you prefer is exactly how I feel too. I believe this "flush page" preference is very common in Japan too.

@@Flatability As far as Plotters, I think smaller the format the wider it gets and leather overlaps. In Mini their paper format is like 1cm shorter on the wide side with leather overlapping. Only way is to cut your own paper and not to use their format. - but you are missing out if - the Plotter paper is simply fantastic. So thin yet ink/pen friendly. Closest to ideal is Lockwood pocket, only wish there was A7 .

I'll take a look at the measurements of their paper. If I'm going to be spending a significant amount on, say, a "mini5", then I want to be absolutely sure that it will work for me. The alternative, of course, is to make a "mini 5" using some leather of my own. all options are on the table.

I'm always trying to put too many things in my mini than it can hold so I ended up using two though only one comes with me everywhere. If they made a mini of the Lockwood slim I would be on it in a heartbeat. Have the pocket one and it's been holding up great. For the mini with small rings there is also another japanese option I ended up going with called da vinci roroma classic from Raymay Fuji. The small one has 11mm rings. Mine is from the Japanese Amazon site and so far really solid and durable and pleasure to use.

I totally agree. Thank you. I must admit I’m constantly experimenting, especially with mini size binders, and I’d love to try some of the Japanese options over time. Thank you for you input. I appreciate it.

Is the significant advantage the leather? It doesn´t crack?

It depends. If a very thin layer of leather is bonded to a man-made substrate, there is a tendency for that layer to crack. If a full thickness leather is used then there is unlikely to be a problem, unless the letter is extremely dry.

You are right. Far too long 🙂 But I am retired now and this is my presentation style. Having said that, I’ve recently started adding chapters, to assist those who are in a hurry. And, if you’re not aware, you can play a video at a faster speed, without changing pitch. It’s certainly what I do, setting KZread to play at 1.5 times normal speed. Works surprisingly well.
