Hi, Steve. I realize this is an older video, but wanted to comment on the issue with not getting your mini Malden to snap closed with the pen inserted. I suspect that there may be a problem with that particular Malden. I say this because of an experience my husband and I have had with three different mini Maldens. After seeing how much I enjoy my mini Malden in Duck Egg, my husband purchased a black mini Malden that was an Amazon return. Right away, we noticed the same problem you experienced: the black mini was not able to snap closed with a pen inserted in the loop. There was also significant gapping in the rings, so we figured there was a reason this mini was being sold as a discounted return. My husband returned that Malden and bought a new one. The new Malden has no problems at all closing with a Fisher Space Pen or Zebra F-301 Compact (or others) in the loop and even has room to spare. If I had not already had such a positive experience with my own mini Malden, we might have concluded that mini Maldens in general have problems closing with a pen in the loop. My husband and I both love the idea of a mini in The Original model. Thanks for this video.

Hi Janis, thank you for this information. Perhaps it is a mfg issue. I tried closing the strap first and the pushing the pen into the loop. But that got old very quickly. Then I started carrying the pen in the center of the rings. That worked better but still not ideal. So I stopped using the mini. Your comment gives me hope.

Thank you for your comment. I have two Malden and one Original in mini size. The original is used most often due to its minimalist look and feel makes it more portable in my pocket.

I've been looking at this one for a while - it's a nice colour combination, and I do love my mini planners! A bummer about the missing items though... If you have the Google Translate app on your phone, there's a function to use the camera to translate text via that. Japanese to English isn't perfect, but it's usually understandable!

Thanks for sharing! Wasn’t even aware it existed but now I may pick one up for myself as well since the mini malden didn’t work for me for the same pen loop reasons!

Funny how something as simple as a pen loop can greatly affect how we like it not like a planner.

I have Originals in A5, Personal, and Folio, nothing smaller. I don't like or need loads of pockets, so the design is great for me, and the leather is so hard-wearing (as long as it's not a patent finish!). My only complaint (apart from their slightly iffy quality control) is the design of the Folio needs to be tweaked slightly where it holds the notebook - it works, but could be better. Irritating that although they are made here in UK, some are not available here. I would love one in navy but not willing to pay the extra to ship from Australia.

Have you tried the folio with other A5 notebooks? I bought a folio that fit a Leuchtturm A5 notebook. (I bought the folio used without the original spiral notebook so I don’t know how it would fit. Found a better alternative cover for the Leuchtturm so returned the folio.

That’s adorable but I just heard that the mini is being discontinued but inserts will still be available. Anyway, I’m on the hunt for a mini finsbury in forest green. Thinking then pocket was not too useful so not sure the mi I will be, but I will make them work in one way or another lol since I love their quality and look.

I had not heard about any change with the mini product line. I believe they had previously discontinued some of the mini planners and then brought some back. I found a hole punch that punches the 5 holes for the mini, and with my paper cutter, I’m good making my own inserts. But like you I like the smaller size notebook but not sure yet how I will use it.

@@organizersteve9848 I read it on Twitter (comment was dated 2016 and it was Filofax’s reply. They also wrote that refills would be made but for a limited time). That was a long time ago, so now in 2023, im thinking they changed their mind, etc. since you just got this and they still have the refills. Its perfect for jotting down notes, logging car info., or tracking health regimen. Yours is really unique too! Its great you can do your own inserts. Well, enjoy it.

I don’t like the multi-national text. I wouldn’t enjoy that at all.
