ily! going to copy and paste this into the description!!
Thank you for this list ❤ Also, i think, Tolkien (2019) deserves to be in this list 🙈

I think it's not fully true dark academia in that there's not really violence, secretive, strong internal conflict or murder type dark. There is the war but it's not integral to the plot early on. It's more light academia.

Hmm I feel like After the Dark (2013) might fit in well to a fair few of those requirements but I'm not sure if it necessarily feels Super DA more DA Lite
Highly recommend 2 DA/ fantasy books - Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, and Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. Also, Babel by RF Kuang and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

OooO!! I've read the first two but I'll add the others to my reading list!!
Cracks (2009) and The Moth Diaries (2011) and The Hole (2001) come to mind as some of my favorite DA movies.
A Beautiful Mind and A Theory of Everything are really good DA movies, even though they might not check all the boxes for what might constitute a DA film.

Oh yes it’s definitely a very academic film indeed. Also a plus that it’s a true story
The Talented Mr Ripley is another good one.
I also love A Discovery of Witches. The story of a powerful book. Early episodes are filmed at Oxford. 4:50

Oh yes totally!! This one is on my DA tv series list!!
Also, Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) or the remake (2018) (not as good in my opinion as the original) are favorites, too.

I started getting into DA with movies and I am glad to see few I haven't seen yet which are definitely now on my to watch list
Woah! Old universities have a mystique of their own. Thanks for sharing!
I’m so excited to watch the ones I haven’t seen. I remember going to the theater for The Skulls. Haha it was so good!

oh these are good!!!!
me having watched the video before, putting it on for background noise, hears "reminds me of charles & camilla": wtf do the king & queen consort have to do with DA? took a second lol
10:15 yessss Ben Barnes 😍😍😍 one of my fav actorrr!! Btw, love that list! I'm taking notes!!😊

Right!! He is a real life prince I swear 🥵
Oh yes, I am definitely in love with Ben Barnes. Shadow and Bone is fantastic!
Love this list, thank you, a few are new to me. Maurice, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Social Network. Good Will Hunting. For me even Sherlock Holmes is a little DA😊

A LITTLE! 💥
Yes to Ben Barnes 👍
Great list, I haven’t seen some of these. I recommend The Covenant 2006
Les Choristes would fit these criteria as well and is just beautiful.
Just saw Surprised By Oxford. It was fantastic.
"Zombi Child" (half DA, half Voodoo), is a french movie that I recommend ! 🙂
I'm sure you've heard of the real life Bullingdon Club that the film The Riot Club is based on, except that apparently the film was in no way extreme enough
thank you for this!

Of course lovely
I think a new recent film to add to this list is Saltburn (on Prime). Have you seen it? I watched it and kill your darlings on Friday after getting in a DA mood
Scent of a Woman is also DA. A commoner attending a fancy prep school being setup for stuff he didn't do, while also learning about life from an, albeit, reluctant mentor.
That it can be set in France answers an important question I have. As with Goth Rock, there seems to be this unspoken thing it can only be set in the UK. But almost everything Ive enjoyed has tended to be either in France ( think Hannibal Rising ) or in a French colony ( Algeria, or even the US in an AU. )
I'm going to recommend Madame X based on the 1908 French play 'La Femme X'. It's a black and white high society murder mystery. Not set in a school but the old film vibe is definitely DA.
The WOODS (2006) set in mid century New England..a girls boarding school, or any of the St. Trinian’s films of the 50’s or the modern ones done in 2007…although they’re more “cheeky hellion posh schoolgirls running amok” dark comedies.
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. and absolutely.... Goodbye Mr Chipps. 🙏
Recommend: The Paper Chase, Lindsay Anderson's "IF", The Stranger (Orson Welles), and Goodbye Mr. Chips, Compulsion (1959), The Children's Hour.
Ben barnes kill me in tht Dorian gray😭❤️❤️

tell me about it 😩😩😩😩
I just watched like minds and I actually love that movie even if the plot is a bit convoluted
the imitation game is also very dark academia there are mathematicians who are basically geniuses trying to build a computer to help defeat the axis during ww2. it's soo good and the setting is amazing and it's based on the true story of alan turing
I recommend Mona Lisa Smile
Link to your shirt and vest, please?
@justlanchen

they are both thrifted 😭 the vest was from the mens section and I sewed it to fit me
Another good one: Young Sherlock Holmes
Alfred Hitchcock's 'Rope' I feel meets your requirements. I also feel the movie 'The Ninth Gate', is a DA film.

Both a novel and a movie would you agree with Bret Easton Ellis's Rules of Attraction for DA

@@justlanchenI added more movies to the list.
2006 the covenant… it is supernatural but has rich kids (friend group), posh school, secrets and death. Not to be confused with 2023 the covenant which is a war film.
The Emperor's Club is definitely DA.
Have you considered the three films and TV series 'The Librarians'? A good one, trippy and clever...
@justlanchen

Yes! I love that show 🥵I mentioned it in my DA tv shows video
@Brsbeach

@@justlanchenYes, it is great fun! It might be a bit off center, but the series 'The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles' is time correct and of course it always has the archaeology,background.... highest production values of any TV series I have ever seen
I am going to recommend: Mona Lisa Smile: Little Women (the latest one); the tv series Nancy Drew; The Saint (with Val Kilmer and Elizabeth Shue set in Oxford and Moscow!). Thanks again! Really love your channel!
10:32 this is the number one dark academia Movie , the best 💯🤎🍁🪔📚📜
It's crazy how none of the movies mentioned are on my country's netflix;-;
@justlanchen
Жыл бұрын
SAME! I had to get them all from amazon
I would recommend Another Country.
The talented mr Ripley is also DA in my opinion, it isn't in a school setting but it is obsessive and there are a lot of secrets.
⚠️Trigger warning for DPS ⚠️ there is a suicide of a prominent character. Loved the movie but it was triggering and I had to recover from it for a good while.
why does NOBODY ever mention "The Talented Mr Ripley" in these Dark Academia films?
@justlanchen

I dont get how is The Dreamers a dark academic movie
Me who hasn't read a book in years:
i don't know that I'd call it dark academia but, killing mr griffin
Matilda??😟🤔
I thought you said these da movies wouldn’t be all about murder lol the first 5 movies deal with death ☠️.

Haha wait what That’s not what I said, I just watched it. Pretty much any dark academia movie, book, ect. involves murder, death or something tragic
Do you know you look a hint like Keira Knightley
