It's really cool seeing more people discovering great Bruce Willis films after his sad health news. The man in his prime was a proper movie star with a LONG list of really good films.

the dude single handedly redefined the concept of main action hero, before him it was all about muscles and being invulnerable, he gave us a more vulnerable hero, more of an everyday man, and it only added to the excitement. you probably already know all of this but I feel its not said enough, people need to know how relevant he is, especially now

He unfortunately had to do a lot of trash towards the end of his career in order to retire. Hopefully when people look back on his career, they'll overlook them and remember a fistful of great films he took part in over the past couple of decades.

We all know how beloved and groundbreaking Die Hard is; it’s a classic. But Die Hard With A Vengeance is the best Die Hard movie. First, the chemistry between Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson is undeniable. Their characters couldn’t be more opposite, but they reluctantly team up for the greater good of the city they love. And, come on, Jackson is so good. I can hear him yelling “McClaaaaaaaane!” in my head. Second, the action is amazing. The film starts off with a jolt of adrenaline and never lets up. It’s an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride as John and Zeus are sent on a wild goose chase around the city. The stakes are also much higher, so you barely have a moment to breath. Third, Jeremy Irons makes for a great villain. He’s delightfully narcissistic and chews up the ridiculous (in a good way) drama in every scene he’s in. Die Hard is great. But Die Hard With A Vengeance is just awesome!!

Bruh Samuel L J has been around for a looooong time

What I really like about this movie is that nobody is just a useless idiot. Every character is doing their jobs in a competent way. If this were a modern movie they would have the bomb guy be a bumbling idiot or have the truck driver just be a nuisance telling cringy jokes, and the FBI guys would be humiliated for a cheap laugh. But here everyone is doing their job and the entertainment and humor comes from natural character interaction. Modern filmmakers really need to study movies like this so we can get back to having good, fun action thrillers.

Especially the police side-characters are great! The police captain is decisive and hands on, the lady cop rocks and the bomb squad guy is brave af after his quirky first impression. Cool characters all around!

@@xSmilinBanditx I really loved the scene where the cops realize that some of the kids stayed behind so they go back to get them even if it means that they will likely die when the bomb goes off. The bomb guy then stays because he will not let them die without trying everything he can to stop the bomb. Die Hard was always good at showing that the side characters can be just as heroic as McLane.

Adults don't give a shit about movies anymore. If they want to see it, they'll happily watch a low quality pirate copy after work. The money is in ticket sales and merch so Hollywood is mostly targetting kids. Good writers seem to only be doing TV and streaming shows. Movies seem to be written by the money men who paid for them.

Well, to be fair, Die Hard had the most incompetent, ego-driven, dumbass "cop in charge" maybe of all time, lol. He was the foil to Sgt. Powell. But back in the 80's/early 90's, there *always* was the incompetent-authority-figure-in-charge trope that the hero had to fight against alongside the real threat, in all kinds of movies. Maybe they figured out that it was tired and cheap by the time Die Hard 3 came out. And hell yes it's refreshing to see competent group efforts against the antagonists.

Jeremy Irons just has that perfect villain voice! Hope everything works out ok for Bruce

@@steffurness I think you're confusing Alan Rickman from Die Hard with Jeremy Irons from this movie. Love them both but no one's got a voice like Jeremy irons, it's criminal to me that he's not in more films. My biggest complaint about The Lion King remake is they did not have voice scar again alongside James Earl Jones' Mufasa, two of the best voices in movies.

Scar, voiced by Jeremy Irons, scared me long before I ever saw Alan Rickman play Snape, and this Die Hard movie, w Jeremy Irons, I watched many times before I ever got around to watching the first one w Alan Rickman. Jeremy Irons is superior on all sides - I probably even saw him in Dungeons & Dragons before Harry Potter was ever a thing.

Honestly took me rewatching this movie so many times, before I realized that the bad guys being worried that "a kid could find" the bomb, was actually a clue about the school bomb being fake.

Fun fact: They shot the scene with Bruce with the sign in Harlem on location, but the sign on set read "I hate everybody", and was changed in post because they feared that even with a film crew around him it'd be too dangerous for him to wear a sign like that, that if the wrong person saw them it might develop a potentially life-threatening situation.

That's funny cause I remember catching this movie on TV years ago and they used the unedited "I Hate Everybody" sign. I always figured that was the edited version due to all the other censored moments, like dubbing over swear words, for standard TV.

The "look" you were talking about in the beginning is Manhattan in the 90s. Its gone now, never to return. But for those of us that got to experience it.... what a time! The east village was freaky and bizarre, times Square wasn't the wholesome place it is now, the whole city felt alive and gritty, dangerous and exciting. It's gone through so much gentrification and billionaire renovations that I don't think we'll ever see it again. Sigh....

I was in New York in 1979. It was a trip for this Texas girl. Joints for sale in Washington Squate Park, seedy Times Square. I panhandled near Central Park. Good times! 😂

One of my favorite lines is when Simon said”Im a soldier not a monster, even though sometimes i work for monsters.. “ some of the best villains are those who do show that harming kids is just not a way to get your point across

The twist that the school bomb was a trick/diversion was also foreshadowed by the fake cops taking the suitcase bomb with them because a kid could possibly grab it and get hurt (which was then used later to blow up the tunnel). The line not only gives the villains character development but it also gives you a clue about something the heroes haven't figured out yet. Brilliant writing.

One of my favorite things about this is the opening credits (or the lack thereof). It simply says the title, plays the song, and BOOM - the movie starts.

It's such an iconic opening. I saw it in the theater and it took EVERYONE off guard. I still randomly think about it all the time.

Bruce was apparently just a good all around guy on set too. Haley Joel Osment told a story of a day on the set of Sixth Sense. They were filming a scene outside. A bunch of fans showed up to watch. They were barricaded back, of course, but Bruce went to a nearby bakery and ordered all the onlookers coffee and donuts/danishes. Die Hard is a great franchise. I like Live Free or Die Hard a lot as well. The last one...we don't talk about the last one.

i love how he appreciates that New York is a great setting for these classic Die Hard shenanigans. Love this "my mom" throughline, James hitting the nail on the head with how this chemistry works.

My favorite thing is when this movie would air on TV, the sandwich board John McClane has to wear says "I HATE EVERYBODY." Which makes the dudes harassing him hilarious

This is easily my second favorite of the series mostly due to the chemistry between Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. They work so well together and one of the more underrated actor collaborations.

Bruce has been diagnosed with Aphasia, which is a disorder that affects the brains ability to communicate in verbal or written speech. For years directors, and his family, have noticed his growing inability to remember his lines on the set... and this diagnosis confirms why. His actiing career is effectively over, as the progression of his aphasia will only get worse over time.

My dad was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia type 2 in 2014 at the age of 70. He passed away last year in August due to it. Most don't last past 10 years after diagnosis. It is definitely a horrible illness and for a long time not much was known about it. I was a primary caretaker along with my mom the past 3 years when it got really bad. I am heartbroken for Bruce Willis and his immediate family and caretakers who will have to endure what is to come. I wouldn't wish it upon anybody. If anyone has questions about what I experienced as a caretaker of one so afflicted, I will happily answer any and all questions.

@@Shaggit The 'good' news for Willis is that his multi-millions from a long, successful career in Hollywood, and business ventures, means that he will be able to afford the absolute best treatments, including anything experimental or cutting edge, that could give him a more positive prospect for his future. Of anyone, he has the best chance.

When I visited New York, I found the actual Thompkins Square Park, where they had to measure the water by the elephant fountain. I was excited to have accidentally found the location and walked the whole park looking for the fountain. I was disappointed when a police officer working in the park told me that the fountain doesn’t exist, it was a temporary set piece that was torn down after shooting.

I love one aspect of the TV edit. Jon McClain's sign reads "I Hate Everyone." When the guy yells "What the fuck?!!" I crack up. This guy hates everyone! 😂

“Tree! Rock! Rock! Rock!” That Central Park scene kills me every time.😂😂👍

This was originally a script titled "Simon Says" that was not related to John McClane at all. Sometimes I wonder if it would have been as good without the DIehard connection, or if it would have spawned it's own franchise.

I had issues with Bruce's politics in more recent years, but he absolutely is an amazing performer. You totally have to react to his passion project Hudson Hawk from the early 90s. It was a famously a giant box office bomb, but it has a cult following due to how delightfully wacky it is. P.S. Snape and Scar make good brothers.

Die Hard: With A Vengeance is actually a story about John looking for some aspirin for his hangover headache.

The first Die Hard was a spec script, the second Die Hard was written as a sequel, the third Die Hard was a spec script called "Simon Says" that they rewrote a bit to make it a Die Hard movie, the fourth film was a spec script called "Firesale" that got rewritten (poorly) as a Die Hard movie, the fifth movie was written to be a sequel to Die Hard. After the original Die Hard came out there was a slew of spec scripts that were basically pitched as "Die Hard on a X". On a boat, on a plane, on a train, in a prison, etc. They made at least one 'Die hard on a thing' movie for basically every mode of transportation possible and spawned at least one franchise as a result (Under Siege). The writer of the original Die Hard once got called into a pitch meeting with some producer who was like "You're the Die Hard guy, right? I got this idea for a movie I think you'd be perfect to write!" and the Die Hard guy was like "OK, what is it", and the producer is like "I wanna make a movie that's like Die Hard, but in a skyscraper!" and the writer was like "That's a great idea, but they already made that movie." The producer is like "Oh yeah?" and the writer was like "Yeah, it's called Die Hard."

Love this movie!! I even love the dynamic between McLane and Zeus that will leave you cheering til the end!

Fun fact: The movie actually has multiple scripts that weren't intended to be a Die Hard movie before settling on this one. One draft was called "Troubleshooter" which had John McClane fighting terrorists on a ship but it was written around another movie with a similar premise, Under Siege. So the script was tweaked into Speed 2: Cruise Control (which was an awful film.) The next script that became this movie "Simon Says" was originally intended to have Brandon Lee as the lead before he passed away and it was even sent to WB and planned to be Lethal Weapon 4 at one point. By the time it was tweaked as Die Hard 3, Zeus was originally supposed to be a woman and Angela Bassett was the runner up for the role. Laurence Fishburne was also originally considered but he asked too much and was replaced by Jackson, hot off his success with Pulp Fiction.

This is one of my all time favourite action movies. It might be the best 90s action movie of that era. I was 13 when it came out here and saw it at the cinema with a new friend (I had changed schools previously). That's when my fascination with movies started. For 2-3 years I saw every movie that came out. My friend and I even kept a list of movie ratings that we continually updated. Some of the best times of my life. We're still friends to this day.

Incredible chemistry between Bruce and Sam, just helps totally elevate an already great movie. It's also nice that the NYPD was shown as competent and some of John's coworkers get their own heroic moments. As funny as the LAPD/FBI were in the first one they were also really dumb in a very unrealistic way

I love that serious movies get as much attention as less serious movies, as cinema.

Fun fact: Ricky Walsh (the detective whose badge is noticed by McClane as worn by a bad guy), is played by Anthony Peck. He also played an unnamed LAPD officer that was very prominent in the first Die Hard in scenes with Al Powell. It is a fan favorite theory that he is playing the same character, who after the events at Nakatomi, decided to transfer to the NYPD with John, and this is why they are friendly... also why Ricky is able to recall the Nakatomi event before anyone else from the NYPD.

This movie was filmed in SC, where I lived for 31 years. The subway train was transported there from NY and crashed in the final assembly building of the General Dynamics plant that I built submarines in from '90 to '94. The storm sewer was built next to it. Part of it was later incorporated into the bat cave for Ace Ventura 2. A friend who worked on it gave me one of the fake gold ingots.

My personal favorite in the franchise. Die Hard 1 is great, but this one just had a more interesting premise to me personally ^^ Plus I think Jeremy Irons does just as good as Alan Rickman in the first one. Then again, I also like Die Hard 4.0, which a lot of people think is bad, so what do I know xD

Love the first one, but this one has always been my favorite.

Part of the reason part one, and part three are so close, is because out of the five "Die Hard" movies made, only part one, and three were directed by John McTeirnan.

These two have been in a handful of films together, and it’s always a darn pleasure to see them going at it. What an awesome pair.

The original Die Hard is the G.O.A.T. But this is one of my favorites in the series because the dynamic that the two stars have with each other is just perfect. I really wish Sam had come back for one of the later films.

4:26 If I'm remembering correctly the script to this film started off as a screen treatment called 'Simon Says', intended to be an action vehicle for Brandon Lee to star in as a New York cop. When he was tragically killed on the set of The Crow in 1993 the studio shelved the Simon Says production but held onto the script. Then 2 years later the screenplay was repurposed into being the film we know today - Die Hard: With a Vengeance. (Supposedly in that 2 year interim Warner Bros had also tried to buy this script from Fox because they wanted to adapt it into a Lethal Weapon entry.)

Dude, this came out between Rodney King and OJ Simpson and right in the middle of my childhood. This movie gave me a great perspective on race relations as a kid (I know its not the best way to learn about other people, but what can I say? Suburbs, man...)

I've always kind of considered this the proper sequel. The second wasn't bad, but it was basically just "Die Hard 2.0 this time at an airport". This had a completely different feel, different tropes, but it had the same family to fight, the same brilliant bank heist plot. It just always felt like 2 was a money grab, this was a proper sequel.

I love the chemistry and the riddles but in my opinion nothing tops the one against many claustrophobia of the original, it's simply the perfect action movie. Die Hard 5 is the only bad one in this series of movies.

The die hard trilogy was incidentally one of the best games to be released on PlayStation 1.

I saw this theatrically on day one. I was the only white person in the theater that I know of, it was a predominantly black theater. When Willis was forced into wearing the sign in Harlem I must admit I was nervous for a moment until I realized that every black person in the place was howling with laughter. 😂👍

Not only the second best movie of the franchise, but also the best buddy action of the 90s.

One of my favorite cinematic reveals is that Simon is Hans' brother. My breath catches in my throat every time, seriously.

The thing to understand about Simon, is what he said himself "I'm a soldier, not a monster", he only used violence when he had to, to complete his mission, the only exception being his personal vendetta with McClain

Pretty wild that studios started putting Oscar caliber actors in otherwise hokey action films. (Their are 4 in this film.) It takes a LOT of skill to make a watchable action film, writing , acting, directing.

A lot of this was filmed in my hometown Charleston, SC. The big general dynamics building where they filmed the subway scene is still over here, and the bridge is actually one of the old Cooper River bridges, which has since been knocked down for the big pretty new bridge. You can even see the salt marshes briefly when they jump off the bridge, and I think there was a scene filmed right near i-26 just outside of Charleston.

This movie is just nonstop chaos, and I love it. My fav Die hard for sure, when I first saw it, I thought it was the second Die Hard movie, wasn't until years later I found it was the third lol.

I used this movie for my final paper in my crime and the media class in college. Such a fun time and probably my favorite in the series.

18:28 I think it's Captain America that used a Die Hard scene... ;-). Glad you got around to reacting on this one, such a solid classic in the action genre. The grit and dirt in this movie gives it a lot more realism too, today with all the CGI movies sets and actors are often sterilely clean. And they have such a amazing dynamic.

This came out when I was 15 and I've always loved it but not watched it for many years. This was a great rewatch!! Film still holds up, its incredible🇬🇧

This is the first of your videos I've seen. I'm definitely going to check out the rest of your content. Die Hard 3 works so well because John McTiernan was back in the directors chair. McTiernan has directed most of my favorite movies.

After the original Die-Hard came out, any movies that were somewhat similar were called Die-Hard in (where ever the movie was set).

You're going to absolutely love the 4th one! It might be my favorite. It's close with this one. The 4th one has a well fleshed out story from beginning to end.

This always makes me wish that Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson had worked together like this more. They have great chemistry and compliment each other’s energy on screen. I have always wondered if they got on along well on set or not.

They're good friends. Bruce is the one that suggested Samuel for this role after working on Pulp Fiction together. The execs wanted Laurence Fishburne.

@@disconnexionsdotcom Fishburne sabotaged himself by demanding a million bucks for the role. Once the producers saw Pulp Fiction(which ironically Fishburne turned down), they went with Sam Jackson instead.

That "wtf?" In the wrong neighborhood sends chills down ya spine. Til this day. Also, I watched this when it dropped on tnt for the first time with my grandma back in the day lol now we get to be this dude on Call of Duty.

Bruce Willis was my first movie star crush. I love almost all of his movies... he's great at serious films as well as comedy as well as action. The Fifth Element has been my favorite movie for years. I'm not one to really care about celebrities but, his health issues have really hit me.

BTW - Don't know if you caught this - but the Detective in charge of getting that school evacuated - that's Graham Greene - Kicking Bird from Dances with Wolves - and a metric BUTTLOAD of other TV and film credits! As far as I know - he's still going strong and still working!

I remember watching The Incredibles and the part when Frozone was talking to the cop at gunpoint and going: "Oh, they definitely saw Die Hard 3!"

The bad guy Jeremy Irons in this is Scar in The Lion King.

My favorite one of the franchise. So good.. I think I saw it in the theater 3 times.

This is my favourite film all my life and always will be. People turn their nose up when I say that, but this film has everything. The relationship between Jackson and Willis. The way NYC is a character in the story. There's zero fat on the script. Every line has relevance and the acting is spot on. Not to mention the overload of action. And the best line: 12:21 Love it 👊
