The fact that the cats mouth doesn’t move makes me think it telepathically speaks to people and makes them perceive it as a cat, maybe jerry and rick saw it’s true form and what it can do.

Thats just it, Rick isn't that shaken that quickly. Rick is usually driven to hopelessness over time to long standing trauma and occasionally fixes it, the mind scan of the cat and his reaction was unnatural. It must've been unspeakably horrible.

I find this "asking questions = bad" really interesting coming from the cat considering "curiosity kills the cat. But satisfaction brought it back"

I like the Schrödinger's cat theory, because instead of immediately tossing the headset like Jerry, Rick really takes some time to try and grasp what he's looking at. You can see his expression of disbelief and horror as he slowly manages to process what he's looking at. Rick, the so called 'smartest man in the universe', has to take time to think about something he's never witnessed and when it finally hits him, he reels back in well earned disgust. This man has been to greasy grandma world, a world where chairs eat people, and apparently the "blender dimension", but what is a horror so out of left field that not even Rick knows what he's looking at? Bam, Schrödinger's cat with an old people fetish. A world of pure horror, where everything you know is synesthetic and slowly melts into each other, a violently polarized reality of rabid old people going at it, guts spilled open from the fresh car accident that never happened, flesh rotting but not quite, an infinite amount of possibilities overlapping in a single material reality which is this cat's mind. It's like that episode with the machine of unspeakable doom, except with goatse mixed in.

I think that since Rick is aware of the fourth wall, he knows that he is a fictional character.However, that cat was from beyond the fourth wall, otherwise from reality. From the sound that can be heard after Rick put goggles on, the scenes contains explosion, boots marching, chainsaw going through flesh and a baby crying. Maybe after Rick saw that the show he is on give the people in the cat's memory or real life entertainment, he was disgusted about it.And since Jerry is weak hearted in here and Rick doesn't want Jerry to be aware that he is in a show, Rick erases Jerry's memory.

My theory is that they literally found out why the cat can talk. Why is a cat able to talk? Because the writers wrote a talking cat. It's stupid meta and very self-aware but also fits really well with Rick as a character. The cat is coming to terms with his knowledge and tries to act like everything is normal because he too struggles with the burden of knowledge. But there's a part of him that wants to share that burden but knows that it would only bring pain to others. What Rick and Jerry see is our world and something that Rick cannot do or change. He is now further burdened with knowledge. It would tie into the theory that Rick knows its a show and does odd things to make the show entertaining because if it's canceled they cease to exist. This may very well be the point Rick finds out.

I always try to look at it from a comedic writing perspective while watching any Rick and Morty episode. When they think of something ridiculous and simply humor, they go with with and make a whole fucking plot out of it. They take the joke to the extreme, and while the characters are serious, they have to be to deliver the comedy. I absolutely fucking love it. In all honesty I don’t think the creators ever had an overall plot or timeline. They move from one idea to the next, simply compiling context and texture to the RaM world, one ridiculously hilarious concept at a time. Each season just fills in the picture a little more, they are artist. We are just witnesses

Kuba havlíček because if you purchased the season pass through iTunes, the extras have commentary from all the writers. They clearly state, including Harmon, that the cat has no prior attachment & was just a fun meta commentary. There isn’t a definitive answer. If you’re such a super fan or the omnipotent being you think you are then direct to your attention to the people who wrote the show who have given an answer. Your assumptions are far off base & completely incorrect. Also, Rick wouldn’t be disgusted by that. Much doesn’t phase him & he was pro purge in the cat episode.

What really struck me, is that the cat doesn't actually talk: his mouth never moves. It seems a kind of telepathic thing or a narration thing.

Although this is a good way to look at it, i think the whole "talking cat but mouth never moves" things is a Garfield reference. At least in older cartoons Garfield's mouth didnt move when he spoke. And almost no one was asking questions about why Garfield is not an ordinary cat. Jon can definitely hear and understand him, but looks like he's the only one (other than Oddie)

This video didn't need to be 18 mins long... After re-watching the episode. I replayed the audio multiple times. Crowd roaring/stomping, followed by cat roaring then a baby crying. The only thing that makes sense is the baby was sacrificed to the cat as a part of some ritual. Seeing a baby get eaten alive is the only thing I can think of that would upset Rick. Cause he's pretty much seen everything and is desensitized to a LOT.

The cat said it himself: "No answer would be satisfying."

Watching this during MatPat’s “final ten” series. Remembering how at one point he was physically on camera recording these instead of cutout MatPat. Both forms will be missed

If you listen you can hear what sounds like a conveyor, chains rattling, baby crying.

It's more than likely a dramatization of the saying "curiosity killed the cat." They kept bringing up the asking of too many questions(questions stem from curiosity). Also, at the end Rick and Jerry's curiosity drove them to see what the cat actually is, and what they got were the unforeseen horrors that came with it.

Conceptually, it reminds me of the Lovecraftian concept as well. Less "Don't think about it," and more "You don't wanna know."

Turns out that the cat is actually meant to represent the writers themselves, reminding themselves to keep things simple, not overthink it and just relax. It was also a bit of a gimmick based off of movies like Oliver and Company or Aristocats, where how the cats can talk is never explained, they’re just there to have fun.

In fairness, the Aristocats didn't need to explain why the animals talk for the same reason 101 Dalmatians didn't: They never spoke to the humans in the way the humans could understand. Granted, both those movies have bigger questions whose only answer is, "It's a Disney movie," like how Duchess could teach her kittens how to paint, sing, and play piano without Edgar or the heiress noticing or how Pongo and Perdy could bring home 84 more puppies covered in soot with no explanation as to where they came from, but that's besides the point. The cats meow and the dogs bark whenever people are the focal characters of the scene. In contrast, The Cat speaks directly to the humans in Rick and Morty. I think Roger and Anita would've definitely been more concerned if their dogs blatantly said, "Cruella definitely took our puppies," and the heiress would probably think she'd gone crazy had she heard Marie singing Scales and Arpeggios, and therein lies the difference. In all three cases it is firmly established that normal animals cannot speak human languages, making it a foregone conclusion that any situation counteracting that fact without an explanation would be questioned. I just realized that I wrote what amounts to a thesis paragraph in a KZread comment section, but I'm posting this reply anyway because I spent too much time on this train of thought to just delete it.
