When I heard “A predator cannot differentiate prey from accomplice”, I immediately thought of classical (read Greco-Roman) mythology. The moon is a huntress and there are stories of that goddess cursing her devotees as well as those who looked on her inappropriately. I’m not as familiar with other mythologies, but suspect that the moon is similarly personified.

@@0nullnil, she is. Some stories have her transforming men into prey animals if the men looked at her wrong (i.e. when she was nude) and setting her hounds on the man thus transformed. And I remember one story of a virgin devotee of one of the goddesses associated with the moon being turned into a prey animal and hunted because the young woman lost her virginity to a violator. She wasn’t even at fault. The moon is not generally associated with kindness or compassion, but with mutability and caprice.

Am I the only one that looked at the creators post "debunking" his initial alien theories and was like "Wow, what a fucking douche", it was so needlessly dismissive and insulting. Also, when an ARG creator tries so freaking hard to tell you you're wrong it just makes you look even more right.

Whoever they are, "We've always been here” and “I the always here.” 3) a group of people subjected to some nefarious brainwashing experiment? Lastly, there is that “mining disaster” in 1963. Mining what? And where? In the Show for Children, we see Cadavr walk through an underground tunnel much like a mine. And I don’t think the moon was very happy about it. I don't typically attempt to suggest things here, but I would like to humbly ask that you look into the Mandela Catalogue. It's another analogue horror channel not dissimilar to this one, but it has its on style and brand of horror that is both decently unique and deeply unsettling. The only thing that keeps going through my head watching these videos about Local 58 is deja vu for Welcome to Night Vale. It almost feels like the time period before Welcome to Night Vale takes place. Before the community just blindly accepts the weird things that have been occuring as if they're normal, a desensitizing. Instead of just being focused on a couple small towns, like Welcome to Night Vale, this is aimed at the world through the internet. I don't know... that's the path my weird brain chooses to go down the rabbit's hole😅! Keep up the great work Matpat love the channel!

I love you're theories. They make me look at the digital world a LOT differently.

"through the window" reminds me of tiptoe through the tulips, which references moonlight, and is unintentionally creepy (in addition, a singer died while performing it, Tiny Tim)

I have my own little theory behind this: what if the "being in the moon" is the norse giant, ymir. Because if you think of the moons origin, it came from a large chunk of the earth and got caught in its magnetic field. Then, look at the earths origin: it came from the corpse of ymir, but maybe he never died. Maybe, ymir is angry, calling us parasites, as in a virus to him, and one he must eradicate. Furthermore, maybe the hand isn't a hand at all. It's the roots of yggdrasil, the world tree, and how the colours are segmented. And, the reason he is speaking through the moon is because its just another part of him, and he has been lying dormant for millenia, and now he is ready to take back what is his. “No stars above us, only eyes waiting to open” might refer to the time it takes for information to travel through space. For example, if a message is sent from earth to the nearest star it would take around 4 years for it to receive it, or in other words to open it’s eyes. Since our messages has been transmitting for many years, it is only a matter of time before the other stars and whatever resides within them to receive signals from earth.

That's Zelda whole timeline in a nutsell. They were forced by the fans to make one, but Nintendo has always said that the "official timeline" was just made up to answer the fans craving for it. Total guess here, but wanted to throw it out there. About that stretched out image on the website, is it possible to overlap each colored part to reveal a complete image divided between them? No idea what tools would be involved in that, I just find it interesting that three of the four colors used are the primary colors in the light spectrum, while the main technology used to deliver these messages relies on variations of those three colors presented on a screen. If that hunch is right, you may also consider the overabundance of red in the image to be connected to the color spectrum values necessary to solve that clue.

That’s what I thought too. And if it weren’t for the fact that we know who the creator is, I’d assume that Local 58 was created by the same idiots in marketing that made the viral campaign for 2012. (Long story short, they released the movie in 2008 and people thought the campaign was actually a government program designed to save humanity from the [fictional] doomsday event in 2012 and crapped their collective pants. Think Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds for the modern day.) Ironically, the campaign kinda worked, as anyone who went and saw that dud also fell for the marketing. P.S. 2012 and Moonfall have the same director, so my hopes for the latter being good are virtually nonexistent.

Plot twist: local 58 was actually a really REALLY drawn out teaser for the 2021 marvel studio movie Eternals

I actually felt like (considering the idea that the moon has some kind of consciousness) the "beyond a certain point watching is no different from doing" as if it was a message for itself. Instead of warning the people that are just watching, it is more like a "I can't keep watching anymore, I have to do something against the parasites" kind of message.

4:08 Local 58's callsign however, was WCLV-TV TV being full power analog and DT being digital, it gets the DT suffix after the transition, The deadline that kept getting pushed if I recall correctly was for Class A low power analog stations (those with a suffix of CA) and Low Power stations (and basically, all the other analog stations that were excluded from the full power deadline). Full power stations had to shutdown by June 12th 2009. Either local 58 somehow managed to keep getting exemptions from the FCG and or other government agencies or Local 58's universe is slightly different from ours with event timings (or how events play out).

This is why i love this channel he’s making everything so clear

It would be funny if it all just ends up being an elaborate, unofficial/fan-made ad for Terraria. The final boss of Terraria is an edridge god (specifically Chthulu) named "The Moon Lord". The Moon in Local 58 and the Moon Lord likely have similar goals

I watched the first Local58 a long time ago, and I was young enough to think it was real and be scared for my life. I clicked this video thinking “yay more nightmares” and the second sentence has “ARG” in it. 9-10 year old me feels betrayed.

Local 58' intro gives me nostalgia, it always makes me think of my papa

Hold on, there isn't necessarily two people talking in that last message before the broadcasting switch Matpat. "I the one you watch" and "We will speak for him" are both in first person. The use of "we" and "our" makes this text first person because it shows that the narrator is the one speaking and actively participating in the narrative. The initial sentences "Unthinking they move to cut his throat only to make a thousand mouths." could be in third person on its own, but it's revealed to be first person as soon as the next sentence says "If he is silenced, we will speak for him." Characters can talk about other people like in the first sentence while still being in the first person point of view. Third person happens when the narrator is omniscient, talking about characters in a story while being entirely uninvolved in the story itself. An example of the sentence in third person would be: "If he is silenced, others will come to speak for him." I'm an education student learning to teach language arts, I just taught a lesson on this, so I'm real proud of myself for catching that :)

I think what Matpat means is that it switches from first person to third person in regard to the entity not that the whole thing switches from first to third. The implication being that the first part is the entity speaking for itself and the other message is another group (the TRI if this theory turns out to be true lol) speaking for/about the entity. The second part has to be a different person from the first part because who would be the "him" they are referring to if it's not the "one you watch" then

Ever since I say "Skywatching", it made me think of the Dead Space Brethren moon, minus the tentacles. Especially the way it looked like it was breathing, taking in the dust around it. There's certainly a horror aspect to something so massive being alive. From what we know of living creatures, a big animal needs a lot of food. So what sustains a Moon-sized Eldritch Abomination? What provides enough energy to keep it alive? But I digress. That organic webbing, all those sinews... but isn't it odd that there's a section of the moon with what resembles a city, and an arrow-like structure? As if to direct those who look at it into a certain spot? I wonder what one would see, if you moved your telescope towards where the arrow pointed. Also speaking of Eldritch-sized planet, wasn't there a story from Japanese horror artist Junji Ito about them discovering a planet, and the moment they noticed it, it noticed them and began closing in on the Earth to consume it? Just food for thought.

Yea but the problem is that the people and Organization who can really help fix things Are ethier fighting eachother or not helping out as much as they can That includes the UN who monitor things But aren't shifting enough weight around to deal with EXTREMELY pollution heavy countries, and I'm not taking just the US (I don't have a cult style hate for it like some people) The CCP and India's Goverment are also producing a lot of pollution As are companies who refuse to change to Nuclear Power and other Clean sources all because it would lower their profits temporarily

For anyone who reads this and wants to know more about quantum entanglement, be prepared to go down a rabbit hole, because scientists have no idea why this happens. Einstein referred to quantum entanglement as "spooky action at a distance" and mockingly asked "if we don't look at the moon then it would cease to exist?" ... It turns out after countless experiments, yes. Don't look at the moon, and according to quantum physics, it won't exist... because it's freaky and switches the universe from one governed by fixed laws, to one governed by chance, where reality is really just a casino and probability governs all, and you only win or lose when you look at the dice... @@EtamirTheDemiDeer That's a psychological concept to help with empathy and that's a good example of what makes this so freaky; if someone needs help, they're still in need even if you're not near them like starving children in a poor country (that's permeance) but with quantum entanglement, those same starving children both exist and don't exist until you observe them. Right now we know there are children in a country that has a high probability to be poor and hungry, yet their existence is completely theoretical and our expectations are they have a high probability of being that way... until one day we fly out there and our observation of them reveals, instead, that they live completely obese and are rich beyond reason; instantaneously across time and space, their existence as obese rich children becomes a reality. They are now obese rich children and always were (but only after we saw them). To be honest, I wish I understood quantum theory enough to give examples to help make sense of it because that was a silly example... It takes a lot to wrap your head around because it defies all logic and we're wired to observe reality as cause and effect so we try and make sense of it without success. Scientists have actually tested (repeatedly) to see if either what we see as reality has always been that way or if reality was made the way it is by probability after we observe it... Physicists keep coming to the same strange conclusion that reality exists only after observation... And no one can figure out why or how. The first quantum computer has been built at IBM using entanglement, which blows my mind that it works...

Just a thought: The phrase at 11:58 " Before the gilded doorsill of our *master's* silent house... we lift our mortal eyes ... and fix them thereupon an empty throne" Is in reference to the moon. But what if it isn't? What if it's actually about the sun? One of the lines used is "the *gilded* doorsill" as in golden like the rays of the sun and doorsill as in frame like a picture frame used to make prized possessions or images meaningfully important. Also, it is true that moonrays are just reflected rays that come from the sun. What if the moon is the "silent house" of the sun? and the "empty throne could be our television screens. If so this phrase could mean something like "in front of the most prized possession of the sun we humans instead choose to place our eyes on something not graced by the sun but rather something without any holiness to it; an empty throne, if you will" But yeah, just a thought.
