    Love this film! I developed mine in Rollei Supergrain and they turned out great!

    Thanks for the review and history of Ferrania, VERY interesting. I find this film has a unique character form the 1950's adn 60's. Unfortunately it's not available here in Brazil. I'm very curious about and would love to experiment with it - but mainly on people. Thanks for the review once more! My best!

    Thank you. Availability is a big Ferrania issue... I hope they will get production and distribution straight soon. I will do some portrait tests soon and for sure make a video.

    I lived in a small little town called Lago Patria when i was stationed in Napoli. I really want to like this film so i'm doing a little extra research before i shoot it. Take this as rumor but the youtuber that did an announcement video for their ortho film stated that 120 should be available this summer. He also stated that the mfgr suggested to only use it in cameras without a motor drive. Your comments on the fragility of the emulsion reminded me of shooting efke and forte. I might try the p30 in a pyro developer. i enjoyed the video. gratz

    Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks. I will have the Orto to test soon, Ferrania told me. About the 120 I have no information in that direction. I will ask. I would really love to see a 120 format. A lot of cameras have pretty strong motor drives, in my case I used the Mz-s who has a very gentle motor so I had no problems. Let me know your results with the Pyro. My preferred result at the moment is with Rodinal.

    A very interesting film, indeed. Loved the contrast. Unfortunately they don't sell in 30.5m rolls, and this makes the film too expensive to buy here in Japan - i suppose that is due to shipping costs and low demand. It costs 11 euros here, while ilford and Acros 100 can be had for ~7 euros (Kodak is also very expensive) in rolls, but can become cheaper by using 30.5m bulk film. For high contrast I have been using Adox HR-50 and Superpan 200. Those films give a very similar look as this ferrania. Superpan 200 developed in Fuji Superprodol looks quite nice. But, since they are super-panchromatic I think P30 must be much better for portraits. Also, for high contrast I have tried Orwo UN54. This film probably has a spectral response similar to P30. But, from your photos, Ferrania looks like a superior film with much better anti-halation, giving it very interesting highlights. UN54 felt like it has poor highlight details due to halation. OBS: I use vintage glass (canon FD prime lenses), so this might be your modern lens being superior as well. All my lenses are clean by a camera shop I trust, and in good condition. Also, this highlights problem don't happen even with Velvia 50, a very picky film.

    Thanks for your input. The prices are high also her, almost impossible to find it below 10 euros. I never tried the film you mention. Usually I just go with FP4 and HP5 and change the developing times if I want a higher or lower contrasts. I was used to experiment a lot with films in the old days when I started to photograph, then I decided it was more productive to know well few films and just use them unless something very peculiar came to market. Acros was another film I used and liked a lot but now the prices here are absolutely impossible. For the lenses I used with Ferrania some are modern and some as the Christmas macro are with an old Pentax M 100mm f/4 macro. The anti halon is pretty good on Ferrania for sure.

    @@LuigiBarbano This makes the 11 euros I found here looking not bad... Maybe this is old stock, before price increasing / exchange rates changing. I think I should do as you do: stick to a few films and stop buying different types. For medium format I have been using almost exclusively fomapan, love the look. For 35mm I keep buying several different films to try... Btw, FP4 is the same price as Acros II here.

  • @LuigiBarbano

    @@yhangr Lucky you... here the Acros is now double the FP4 price. But in EU we are getting crazy, even candies prices doubled in 2 years. I used Fomapan in 4x5 'cause was much cheaper than FP4 and I really enjoyed the film. I will sure use it more. I sticked to few films because I was using them professionally so predictability for me was essential and more important than some eventual better quality. Now that I'm using film mostly for fun I can experiment a bit more... and is good for the channel :) BTW, I would love to visit Japan, I had always been attracted by the Japanese culture. I had a business meeting some years ago with Japanese people and I can tell you it was a lot of fun to have a kind of loud Italian guy speaking with his hands and always ready for a pat on the shoulder, dealing with the opposite attitude and habits of the Japanese culture. It was really fun to laugh with them at dinner later and confronting our different styles.

    Would you recommend using a fixer with hardener (like Kodak Rapid Fixer) for this emulsion?

  • @LuigiBarbano

    @LuigiBarbano

    Жыл бұрын

    Before recomending it I would have to try it, but I think it can be a good option to avoid scratches. The emulsion seems very delicate so a fixer with hardener can help.

    If you don't live in Firenzi your chance of getting ferrania are not good! None in fact! Zero. A friend had a few rolls, his home close to the store! Like Downstairs! The stuff he showed me. It was good. Pan-F from Ilford better and cheaper..

    I live 50 minutes from Ferrania... I got it online :) Pan-F is a great film, but with a totally different curve. The P30 is very high contrast. I have still two rolls to go, one to develop that is a test Pentax K3 Monochrome vs Ferrania and for the others I wait for the right subject.
