Film Ferrania P30 Review
Film Ferrania P30 shooter Mr. Holga and Film Ferrania P30 retailer Todd Puckett of Don's Used Photo Equipment in Dallas, Texas are reviewing Film Ferrania P30 black and white 35mm film. Holga and Puckett went on a Film Ferrania P30 photo walk around Blue Ridge, Trenton, and Leonard, Texas. We had a great time photographing silos, cows, trucks, tractors, and cemeteries. We also ran into photographer Jessica Rushing.
This is our first ever film review. Hope you like it. Tell us how we did in the comments below.

Thanks for watching. Hope to have another pinhole video in 2023. Cheers, MH
Todd and Mr Holga this is my absolute favourite B&W film stock. I often buy this from Macodirect 20 rolls at a time. My usual go to is Tri X and T Max. My Ferrania is stored and used for special occasions as supply is often inconsistent. I agree with Mr. Holga that image quality is phenomenal

I love the Film Ferrania P30 too. I need to do more with it. Would love to get a hold of the 120 format. Thanks for watching. Cheers, MH
Now in 120 format... stunning!! PS: developed in D96 or similar

I still want to do a portrait session with Film Ferrania P30. The grain is extra fine and the blacks are very rich. Todd should have both P30 and Orto in 120 format very soon. Thanks for watching. Cheers, MH
This film reminds me of Bill Brandt's work in the early '60's, as well as Fellini, of course. Shoot at EI 50 (plus 2/3 stop), and use semi-stand development to control contrast, and you will have a look that is contrasty with lots of detail, the way I see black and white imagery. Todd reminds me of my Uncle Jim, couldn't see a thing unless it was right in his face. Very entertaining, guys.

Todd is blind as a bat, except without sonar navigation. This is why I always drive when out on a photo walk with him. That and I get more vote on where we go. Yes, we love Film Ferrania. I am hoping to do more portrait work with it. Thanks for watching. Cheers, MH
Todd, you sold me some Film Ferrania P30 in your store today....what an enjoyable review you both did! I look forward to shooting this and for seeing many more videos like this! Good stuff guys!

We can't wait to see your results. I've been thinking that Film Ferrania P30 might be a great film for portraits. I love the rich darks and fine grain. Thanks for watching. Cheers, MH
Hi, thx for posting this very pleasantly photo-educational video. You are two nice guys indeed! Very comprehensive and flawless explanations. I'm a Ferrania P30 film fan, too. I've heard that Ferrania Labs are going to launch an ortho film, possibly by the end of 2023. Many greatings form Italy (where Ferrania films are produced)!

So does Todd, because he does not ship. Thanks for watching. Cheers, MH
Another great video. Todd and I had a lot of fun shooting Film Ferrania P30 film on a North Texas photo walk, which was more of a road trip than a walk. We aimed for Blue Ridge, Texas, and later found ourselves in Leonard and Trenton, Texas. We even met Jessica Rushing along the way. Sorry about my shirt this time. The lettering makes the captions hard to read. I'll keep that in mind for the next shirt. Thanks for watching. Cheers.

Next time we do a film photo walk, I'm going to capture us in the wild with video. And we will do a better comparison to other films. Thanks for watching. Cheers, MH
Please help us reach monetization so that Mr. Holga can afford a new IPad. Maybe we could do a Go Fund Me for Poor Mr. Holga.
Great video; subscribed. Nice to see fellow Texas photographers. I'll look at your other content. Ferrania is very interesting to me; I want to learn to shoot it well. You might consider (I would definitely like to see) reviews of ADOX CMS 20 II and CHS 100 II. They offer two ISO 50 films also. The ADOX CMS 20 is supposed to be incredibly sharp, beyond the capability of many lenses and most scanners. However, CMS 20 results apparently vary widely with results from Ilfosol or Rodinal being only so-so, but results from the matched ADOX developer being stunning. I really like the story behind Ferrania and ADOX. I hope they are both successful because they have the proper scaling for today's film production. They are the future of film.

Ferrania P30 is a film I shoot regularly, It has to be in my top 3 B&W film stocks of all time. Ferrania P30 is best developed at home, after much testing I got the best results using Kodak D-96, and as a side note the Ferrania P30 is best shot at between ISO 45-60, second note avoid shooting directly into the sun where your subjects are back-lit, unless you're using good ND filters. Ferrania P30 is a film with super-high silver content on a clear base with ultra-small/fine film grain, when shot correctly there is almost no visible grain. The film is high contrast, and has high resolution capabilities, and very limited latitude (+/- 1/3 stop up or down) so if your not spot on with your metering the mid-tones will get lost on you. Now I haven't been able to verify anywhere but I believe the film might also be Ortho chromatic - because it's very sensitive to the red spectrum of light, even though the website and packaging state its a Panchromatic film, it might be a Panchromatic film as stated, but it really has some red sensitivity. But I can see why you might be leaning to think its Pan-X. Lastly through my own testing, I've have found that any older type glass (lenses) that have Thorium (that yellowish tint to them) like the older Canon, Pentax, and Olympus lenses have an easier time with bringing out better mid tones in the film.

Wow, you really like P30 film. I am trying some more rolls right now. Going to do my own experimenting. And I will be developing at home. Thanks for the suggestions. And thanks for watching. Cheers, MH
P.S.: You've just obtained my enthusisstic subscripion to your channel. Regards.

That's what we like to hear. Thanks for watching. Cheers, MH
Don't make the assumption that panchromatic means the film is equally sensitive to all colors. Almost no panchromatic films can make that claim.

You live and you learn. Film Ferrania P30 is definitely more ortho than pan. Thanks for watching. Cheers, MH
