FEDERICO FELLINI and GIULIETTA MASINA

This is a short montage video connecting excerpts of different documentaries and film scenes about the relationship of film-maker Federico Fellini with his wife the actress Giulietta Masina. It is part of a future series on the personal/professional relationship between directors and actors. (Next to come: Ingmar Bergman and Liv Ullman).
I do not own nor have the copyright for the material used (fair use?). The main reason for this video is that I found a lot of interesting material about Fellini and Giulietta but most of it was just in Italian without English (or other language) subtitles, so I thought it could be interesting to have a subtitled version of the most interesting parts so that other people with no knowledge of Italian could watch it too. And also to provide a relatively short introduction to Federico Fellini and Giulietta Masina.
By the way, this video does not mention some of Fellini's most celebrated works (La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2 ) not because they are not good, but just because its focus is just on his works and his love story with Masina.

Thank you for the English subtitles. Very enjoyable. La Strada one of the greatest movies ever. Giulietta Masina as Gelsomina was priceless.

La Strada is in my top three ever
Ms. Masina was a fabulous and totally (at least outside Italy) underrated actress. She was superb in La Strada! I think she was the Italian Chaplin.

Absolutely! Literally my favorite actress ever... her performance as Gelsomina would make her #1 even if it was her only movie. But she was incredible, in everything she was in, no matter how big or small the role - look at _Europe '51,_ for example... Gelsomina, Cabiria & Giulietta are performances for the ages.

Definitely the best actress ever. Chaplin himself said she was the actress he most admired. That says all. No way Katherine Hepburn was better.
giuletta masina in La Strada is one of the best actings i have ever seen

Watching that movie for the first time was like magic for me. Same with 'A Night at the Opera'.

@@stevennieto9898 Absolutely. I'm jealous of anybody that gets to experience that film for the first time - really, any of Federico and Giulietta's films together. Totally magical, what they accomplished together, and apart!
I have loved Fellini forever and Giulietta Messina and just now I found that they were married I am 66 it's wonderful to learn such things after admiring them separately for years thank you 🐱🌹🌷🌈🌞

Giulietta is an angel.
Wonderful story. I hadn't realized that Fellini was so thin, and Giulietta brought him back to life. Nino Rota's scores will always remind me of Fellini.
Federico e Giulietta. Mi sembra di assistere al loro incontro su quel treno verso Rimini, magari lo stesso che ogni mattina portava me a Faenza. Lei timida e carina , impiegata ma so che era laureata in lettere, lui uno spilungone magro pieno di sogni. Lui conoscendo ormai i suoi gusti deve essere rimasto abbagliato da quei due occhi rotondi vagamente pagliacceschi ma tanto intensi, lei sarà stata ad ascoltare un sacco di balle (famoso per queste, come dice Tonino) forse gli aveva detto che era un giovane regista affamato ma per poco , come disse a Tonino, lei conoscendo la grande attrice che diventò forse amava il cinema . E si formò così con un colpo di fulmine, un amore, un sodalizio, una amicizia dentro a un sogno. Quel sogno è durato sempre, Giulietta dopo la morte di Federico non visse che pochi mesi. Non ebbero figli ma sono convinta che Giulietta sia stata figlia di Federico e Federico figlio di Giulietta.
"it is a very beautiful story, the one that, even today.. I won't say that it's like a fairy tale... but, I would like that it would never end.." They were really meant for each other.... 😭
