It is a CRIME that Fellini didn't return to the stage later on for Best Director.

Alfred Hitchcock wasn't even nominated for The Birds unfortunately. Especially, considering that it is his last successful film in his career. Plus, the fact he never won an Oscar for directing is just insane.

Foreign film directing awards were a tough sell to Americans. We properly wanted to keep the competition 'in house'. They had Cannes and the The Venice Lions. The best foreign film if the film is a Fellini film is a FELLINI prize of course.

when cinema was real art
Federico Fellini deserved a standing ovation.
My favorite movie of all time.
what a masterpiece, what a genius. and it's impressive that Fellini was thinking about his new job (Giulietta degli Spiriti, BTW), rather than the awarded one.
Che artista che è stato Federico Fellini ❤️❤️👏🏻👏🏻
Where is the italian cinema nowadays ? The fifities and sixties had so many great italian filmdirectors ...

"The Great Beauty", the italian movie that won the acadamey award a few months a go.
Wow, it was Julie Andrews who presented Fellini with the statue! How did I never know of this before? Two of my absolute favorite artists, although La dolce vita is my favorite film of Fellini. Watching this is very surreal.
What an achievement! Love this film and Fellini.
He deserved best director award too for this film.
Been waiting decades to see this, as it was the last broadcast I had not been permitted to stay up and watch. Delightful! Jack's intro of Julie was most gracious indeed. One year later, she'd be the winner. At the time of this presentation, she was filming THE SOUND OF MUSIC. By the way, Julie's gown was actually a silvery white; it's what she wore to the world premiere of MARY POPPINS a few months later.
Julie Andrews is splendid!
Jack Lemmon is looking good here :-)
Italy's National Anthem being played as Fellini reaches the stage! :) :)

What a gentleman.
Grandissimo Federico
And, when she wore the gown with her white mink stole (as she did at the MARY POPPINS world premiere), it took on a slightly grey cast. I have seen color footage of that. What a gorgeous shape she had, and this dress shows it off quite nicely.
The Master.
Looking at color photos, Julie's gown looked blue but I believe it was silvery white and appeared blue because of the backstage curtain. At any rate she was gorgeous. This was her first AA appearance and she seems a bit nervous (neither Mary nor Emily had opened yet) compared to the self assurance a few years later (wish they'd upload her giving Best Picture to In Heat of the Night).
As our friend below mentioned please bring back all those precious moments, just pure pleasure, thank you..

Arrivederci and buona fortuna to you, Federico
I know I mentioned this on a previous video, but I thought I'd bring it up again. If the person who puts up the videos on this channel is a member of the Academy, I have an idea: How about putting every televised ceremony on this channel as one complete video for each. Start with the announcement of the nominees then go to the ceremony. Just an idea I had.
Immenso Fellini!
So excited to see this in my sub box...This could not be any better!
He's the best. No other like him.
The Red Lights !
one of the best movies of all time
Vive Felini
Yes, I am also awaiting the upload of that Best Picture award, since all the other major Oscars for 1967 are already available for viewing. She did seem a bit shy and nervous, perhaps self-conscious because of the MY FAIR LADY intro and music.
Fellini é o maior de todos, 8½ é o melhor filme já feito!
Julie Julie what would the world do without you?!?
Julie Andrews would become the it girl the following year. She's probably filming The Sound of Music based on her hairstyle, and Mary Poppins was already in post-production.
Oscar channel, please continue uploading these old Academy Awards videos! Can you please upload ''Gandhi'' winning Best Picture, ''My Fair Lady'' winning Best Picture, ''Oliver!'' winning Best Picture, Carol Reed winning Best Director, George Cukor winning Best Director and Richard Attenborough winning Best Director? Thank you!
Bless him!! 😍
My all time favourite movie OSCAR......❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

At last!!!! Saw a color picture of Julie that night and her dress was a beautiful blue. And what a choice!! That's Gulietta (Mrs. F) next to him. And look at Roman in front of him on the aisle. He looks like Wayne Newton!!!

Polanski writes about the ceremony in his autobiography, how he loved 8 1/2, how he felt slightly disappointed, but had known deep down that Fellini would win and that it was well-deserved, and how Guilietta burst into tears when the winner was announced.
WTH are they playing music from My Fair Lady? Yes, she played Eliza on Broadway but was (in)famously NOT given the part in the film version.
Shocking it wasn't La Dolce Vita. Because that is the greatest that ever was.

It did win the Palme d'Or so there is that. l
Tom Jones is a pretty good film, but 8 & a 1/2 is beyond brilliant
To the Academy or Anyone Out There ~ Can someone please set me straight: Isn't it the producer(s) who accepts the Oscar Award for Best Foreign Language Film? Carlo Ponti and Dino di Laurentis produced several of Fellini's movies ~ should they not also have received awards? Or, with Foreign Language, is it the Director who takes home the Oscar? [Not an earth-shattering question but merely a "curiosity" one! Thank You!]

You're thinking of Best Picture, which officially goes to (and is accepted by) the winning film's producers. But the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film is not given to a specific individual but is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. However, the rules currently governing the Foreign Language Film category state that "the Academy statuette (Oscar) will be awarded to the picture and accepted by the director on behalf of the film's creative talents." Therefore, the director does not personally win the Award, but simply accepts it during the ceremony. Furthermore, two years ago, they also started engraving the director's name onto the statuette, in addition to the winning country.

Just 1 Oscar?.. Unfair !!

Oh yeah? And how exactly do you know that? I'm just watching the bonus material on the DVD, and he seems to be thrilled he got the Oscar, says it's the most important international award. It's BS though that respecting American films means you respect the Oscars and the Academy. Only a tiny fraction of a year's US productions is even considered for an award. Many people don't necessarily agree with the Academy's choices.
I was the 1000th like :)

I still wonder how he managed to win with a movie that, I bet, only 4 or 5 people in Hollywood saw. And maybe only one or two liked.
