Just wondering if anyone can help. I went out to use my cable release for the first time in my Canon AE-1 Program. I had it set to bulb mode, metered the aperture. Pressed the cable and there was resistance but no shutter sound and not picture. Not sure why it’s not working! Works fine when I take the cable out and take the photo as normal.

Maybe your camera button hole got issue

I dont understand the purpose of the different positioning by the button on the end of the cable. Regular vs anti-clockwise, but what does that change in terms of what you can do with it?

It’s for “Bulb Mode” "Bulb mode" is a shutter release method entirely controlled by the photographer. The shutter duration is determined by how long the photographer presses the shutter button, thus it is also known as "manual control shutter." The "B" in "Bulb" originally refers to a bulb-shaped pneumatic shutter release used in the past, which operated by hand or in conjunction with a flash.
