I have a cable release adapter for my 1957 Yashica Mat and it also fits my Nikon F2a. These cameras are my favourite film cameras in my collection. I also have a Yashica FXD quartz which has a great rubber eyepiece and is really comfortable. I rarely use film cameras now as I am living off my pension. I use a Fujifilm X10 for colour and a Ricoh 8.1 megapixel Gr digital camera for black and white at 800 iso mostly.

Leica have a similar one as well that can be used on a Yashica 635, and the Nikons as well.

What about the adaptors that do the opposite and allow you to use a typical shutter release cable on an F (or Leica) are these recommended? I tend to lean towards using those since there are more cable releases available for use this way and if something happens the cable can be replaced inexpensively

Can you still lock the shutter collar with the soft release fitted I have a cable release adapter which fits my Nikon F2a and my Yashica Mat. I just use my own cable release with it.

My Nikon F3 HP has the round rubber eye piece. Also it is so much nicer to view through because I wear glasses and the HP stands for High Eyepoint. I am wondering if the eye level finder would be better to view through on my F2 Photomic .

@@terrywbreedlove Are you referring to the DE-1 non meter finder for the F2? If so I don’t think the view would be any different than the Photomic. I bought my F3 before there was a High Eyepoint finder. When it came out I ordered one . It was delivered about 20 minutes before I had to leave the house for a wedding.thanks for watching.

@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 yes the DE-1. The meter on my F2 is not working so well. I tested it against my F3 and meter app. And it is two stops under those two. Plus sometimes it won’t readout anything until I start messing with it. My F2 is in beautiful condition like new almost. Except that meter prism is ugly and isn’t working so well. So i am thinking maybe the DE-1 and just use a handheld or sunny 16.

I've just stumbled into your channel and am loving the content. I love learning more and more about the Nikon F even if I've had it for ages. I'm currently "uhming and aahing" about buying an AR1 soft shutter release as it's great for when its freezing cold and you want to wear gloves. It's just a shame to think "wow, I'm going to spend 50 pounds excluding shipping to get the thing" 😂

Thank you for your comments. I agree, the price of the AR-1 is crazy. Sometimes you may find one as part of a lot of accessories or on a camera body for sale. Search on eBay for Nikon lot.

@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 I'll definitely keep looking. The most annoying part is the "10 mint condition for 250"! On the topic of accessories, you don't happen to have a dl1 illuminator knocking around by chance? If you did, I'd love to grab some measurements and such!

Buy one, you wont regret it. I have them on a number of my Nikon film camera's, and wouldnt be without them. they make it so much easier to press the shutter, and good if its cold, and your'e wearing gloves.

@@catey62 I did and you're right , I can't live without it. The only annoying thing is feeling like I'm going to drop the thing when I switch to rewind my film 😂

I have a question that I can’t solve, hopefully you can. With the F2 I would like to fit a +2 diopter lens AND the rubber eyepiece you showed us. Is it possible to do this. Maybe is it possible to fit the +2 diopters glass only ( after removing from its holder ) in to the rubber eye piece holder .? I hope I explained my query clearly. Thanks for you video . I love them

That sounds like a good idea, but I’m not sure it would work. The clear glass in the rubber eye piece would have to be removed and replaced with the diopter. I don’t know that can be done. Also the diopter may not be the same size and thickness as the clear glass. I won’t be home till tomorrow night. When I get there I’ll look at the rubber eye piece and see if it may be possible.

I checked my rubber eyepiece and I don't think there is a way to remove the glass without damaging the eyepiece. But I have an idea. Look for a rubber O ring in the plumbing section of a hardware store that is the same size as the frame of the diopter and using a very small amount of an adhesive glue it to the frame. That may work. But be very careful not to use too much adhesive so it doesn't run onto the diopter. Do this with it off the camera. Let me know what you think of this solution.

I think that adapter for the AR-2 is the AR-8

Yes you are correct. It is the AR-8
