    I used lens wipes in college and it is deceptively easy to damage the very thin lens coatings. Use a clean wipe or microfiber sparingly and very lightly. Emphasis on very lightly. If dust in tight places is a pfoblem, use compressed Canned air---being careful NOT to shake or agitate the can.

    Here is a good advice on how to clean the lens. Use the rocket blower first to blow off any debris on your lens and than you would use those Zeiss wipes. But yet I would use the Zeiss liquid cleaner and spray it on a Q-tip after using the Rocket Blower. I would wipe the lens with the Q-tip in a circular format than I would use a dry Q-tip to wipe it off. I would recommend using archival gloves so no oils and dirt from your hands would get on the cleaning materials and lens. I would finish it off with a Zeiss lens cloth so their won’t be any smears on the lens. I highly recommend to put on the B+W UV Nano filter on the lens so the dirt and dust would be on the filter rather than on the lens. Peace Flood!

    Personally I hate cotton gloves. Or maybe just the ones I get in my neck of the woods. In any case, the ones I tried have caused me tons of issues with lint coming off them and I either have to really go to town with the rocket blower or the clone stamp in PS. I ended up handling my negs either bare-handed (*gasp*) touching only the sides or using rubber gloves. Way less of a pain in the butt, especially when making prints.

    I really love film photography, but it's really complicated to shoot film on Brazil. First of all: we don't have many film options. (Only Kodak ColorPlus). Second: it is ridiculously overpriced, since from film prices to the development cost. But my love for film keeps me at that hobby, even with all of those obstacles.

    Hey King Jvpes, just found your channel and I really like the information you are putting out. I learned photography in the middle 70's, (yes I am old), I was off photography in the 90's until about 6 years ago. Watching you is like a mini refresher course, has no idea what I forgot. There is one thing I that I use on my cameras without the information window for the end of the film box and that is plain 1/2" cloth First Aid tape and a fine Sharpie. Just a small piece on the back with the ISO, Exposures and type of film, (color/B&W). Something simple and I never have to guess what I am shooting with when I have multiple cameras with me. Thanks for the information and look forward to seeing more in the future.

    No, NO, NO!!! Sorry to rain on your parade (commission?), but NEVER use those "soft release" things! They stick up like big red targets, begging to be hit and break parts inside your camera! In my 40+ career fixing cameras, I can't tell you how many hundreds of cameras I've seen disabled because of this one "accessory"! A camera's release button is specifically designed and adjusted to minimize or prevent this kind of damage, but even is a case, these buttons can magnify the potential for damage.

    Just get some peak design straps + anchors. Those are the best ever. Have some anchors for all of my cameras ^^

  • @TXGRunner

    @TXGRunner

    6 жыл бұрын

    Excellent comment. If you feed the anchors through the camera eyelets (without the split rings), you're also saving the finish on your camera. There are so many beautiful camera's out there where there is brassing just around the split ring or where a metal clasp on the strap rubbed against the camera body -- such a waste. Peak Design solves the issue. PD is expensive. For those who still use a split ring, make some simple leather protectors to wrap around the split ring. There is no reason for metal to ever touch metal on these fine instruments.

    I have an addition to the list: a good light meter. My personal recommendation is the Gossen Spot Master. Awesome piece of kit. Admittedly, it is a bit on the bulky side. If you don’t need spot metering, a Sekonic L308 is a safe bet as is a Gossen Lunasix. Otherwise, just one remark: Dude, the audio levels are way out of whack in this video. The music is much to loud.

If you pause at 4.13, you see the universal clip, then you have the ring, which is threaded through the last metal piece which is holding the strap there connecting it to the camera. Mine just broke and I’m halfway though a roll. It looks like I’ll need to finish the roll, open it up and then perhaps I’ve lost a piece which holds this metal bit in place? Please help/advise 🙏🏼

    A light meter should be the "main event" if you're shooting film. It's essential when shooting film. But wait, don't cameras have a built int light meter? Yes but they're not as accurate or calibrated like a handheld meter. It's amazing that a lot of newer generation photographers severely down play or don't even use light meters now and shooting film, it's more essential to have one com paired to digital.

    bnkrazie There’s an app for iPhones called lux that’s basically a really great free light meter. Once you get the hang of it though, I just kind of shoot intuitively.

  • @bnkrazie

    @bnkrazie

    6 жыл бұрын

    I tried Lux to find the app doesn’t give an accurate reading compared to my Sekonic L-858D-U meter. Lux is about 1 to 1 1/3 stops under which your whites will be mid grey just like your camera’s meter. If you don’t work professionally, especially commercial photography then you’ll be fine. For people who wants and needs the best and optimal image then spend the money on buying a light meter. Lux is only a reflective meter, the same as most cameras while with a dedicated light meter could have reflective, incident and flash capabilities.

  • @CrazyCalabrese78

    @CrazyCalabrese78

    5 жыл бұрын

    bnkrazie if you noticed the image on display when metering with Lux, it seems like it will try and protect the highlights (which makes sense as it’s using a digital camera on the iPhone). If you point it down at the shadows, it opens up but I’d still add another stop on top. So if you’re framing the scene as you’d shoot it, I’d go plus 2.5 stops from that reading with colour negative film. I used it on my holiday and tried the spot meter function too but I’m not sure how it rates against an incident meter.

    Nice video as usual. But does Gaffer tape leave a sticky residue when you take them off? It's a pain in the butt wiping that off.

    Small tip to cleaning ur lens: use tissue paper that you have not touched before(as long as ur fingers touch whatever ur using to clean ur lens ur just rubbing oil on ur lenses) and wipe in circular motion and then use a blower to blow any remaining particles

    Duct/electrical tape: I never understood that. It’s not like covering the brands will make the camera more discreet. Or am I missing something here?

    According to his logic it covers the brand names and makes the camera less prone to being stolen because people won't know the model and thus know how expensive it is. But this theory is flawed because if I'm a thief I might be more prone to look for cameras with tape now. Idk. I feel if someone's going to take your camera they'll take it. I doubt there are photographers (because they'd be the only ones to know a camera's worth) out there going around stealing cameras. 🤷🤷🤷

    Hello there. Following your great video, I bought a shutter button from the The MoreGooder. It's been several weeks now and I still didn't receive the package (I live in Canada). I sent a message a couple of days ago, they have a section dedicated to that. Still no answer... I begin to think that this guy takes the money and doesn't send the thing...

    I don't agree with lens wipes, I know this is a contrvisual topic, espeically in the high end film industry. But I personally would never use wet wipes on any lens, I personally think KimTech kimwipes are the way to go, they are dry wipes, doesn't damage coating (since those cost more that the glas itself).

    Whatever you do, do NOT put electrical tape or normal Gaff tape on your camera! They both leave super sticky residue (what they're designed to do) once you peel it off. DO USE Matte Gaff tape, its designed to not leave any residue where it's stuck onto, but not forever...

    Kodachrome is a positive color film, hence the chrome in the name. Kodachrome uses specific K-14 chemicals and is discontinued with the film. It doesn't use the standard E-6 chemicals that are used for current positive films. Unless you know the receipt to make a batch, you will not be able to process it unless you cross process and a lot of labs refused to do so.
