There was only one possibility that Tessa and Scott wouldn't win the gold medal, ie if a meteorite had crashed into the Pacific Coliseum at the very end of their race.It didn't happen so that they won the Gold with an immaculate, inspired, touching and unforgettable performance. So soft and powerful, so sweet and passionate at the same time. It was like beeing under a spell from which no one was in a hurry to wake up

This Mahler program is so beautiful. He handles her in the lifts so wonderfully. Everything is very definite. No skirt wrapped around he head and you can't see what's going on - like so many lift/spin combinations. He in particularly was so aware of his line and such beautiful extension.

Skating at it's finest brought to a pinnacle by the greatest ice dance team of all time: Virtue & Moir, showing us what they can truly do - pure skating and fundamental dance. Their free dance is deceptive in it's beauty in that they fool you into thinking that it's easy, a breeze. It's not. And that lift, so challenging, yet she doesn't even balance check and they never lose speed. Their knee bend and speed are the best in the field by a county mile and the intricacy and tenderness of the interpretation could have had the potential to come off contrived but they transcend such things and it draws you in so easily and so genuinely. There's a reason that Tessa and Scott are the most decorated in the history of the sport, but beyond that, there's a reason that they are so respected by everybody who meets them and works with them. There's a reason why everybody *wants* to work with them. Them and that free dance is always the standard I come back to when I think about what I like about ice dance. But their body of work doesn't stop there. They are one of very few ice dance teams and maybe the only ice dance team to ever be so diverse in their talents and programs in the fact that they excel at everything. If this free dance was all you could show me of them, I would say that they are great, show me the rest of their work and I call them the greatest.

When i watch Tessa and Scotts performance, i weep uncontrollably. It is so breathtakingly graceful, so fluid and elegant - there is no break or pause between the two or in the dance - i really, honestly feel like "God" was with them on the ice at that moment, i feel like he stopped everything to watch these two, do what he created them to do :) ♥ When they made up the phrase "poetry in motion" they were talking about Tessa and Scott ♥ they're like two real music box ballerinas on ice :) ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I don't think Tessa and Scott care too much though since they can just show/shut up everyone with all the Gold Medals they already have, proving that in fact they're one of the best Ice Dance Team ever in the sport and basically legends. But i encourage you to keep trolling, i think is amusing to everyone :)

It’s so interesting to see how young and still raw both Bates and Poirier were with their respective former partners compared to how they dance now. Also, I love catching glimpses of Romain Haguenauer from back then and how he doesn’t know eventually he with Marie France-Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon would coach the same gold medalists of this event two olympics later to their second Gold and will have created a fleet of amazing dancers to succeed Virtue/Moir.

Not now in 2019. They lost Osmond, Gabby has so many issues, and after that there is no one. In the men they fell apart at worlds and it is a few years for Gogolov. Messing is very old and Nam has not developed as hoped. The men are in big trouble. And in pairs and dance they are at best in the top five. It is rare but Canada has no medal threat right now.

IMO in the Ice Dance Olympic History there are three routines absolutely in one league of their own: Torvill&Dean Bolero in Sarajevo, Klimova&Ponomarenko Bach Air in Albertville and Virtue&Moir Malher in Vancouver. Three unreachable milestones for technique, execution, choreogray and interpretation.Seeing them is as reading the ice dance encyclopedia: you can find everything explained in.

A wonderful effort by all of the top group. Well done by D&S overcoming that disastrous costume choice in the short and making their compulsory and free dances pay off at the podium. D&W made their case and totally deserved the silver medals, though I would have given them the top mark in the short dance on originality. That Bollywood still makes me smile. V&M were precision itself in the short and transcendent in the long. Champions indeed and deserving gold medalists! Marina Zueva's four kids lifted the bar and made me happy to be a skating fan again. :) The ceremony was terrific, as were all of the Vancouver ceremonies - well done Canada. I thought Salt Lake's skating ceremonies were lovely with the John Williams music as background, but Vancouver was no less appealing. These skaters got a beautiful memory to preserve, and gave us one as well with their outstanding performances.

Tessa and Scott's flamenco was a masterpiece too, although more traditional. But in figure skating the marks are not decided just based on who has the best/most original program, even in ice dance. Many other factors play a huge role as well. Still, D/W OD had more original choreo, but V/M OD was a bit more difficult as a figure skating program.

Thank you so, so much for uploading this. I have been looking for years for the Khikhlova/Novitski routine to Firebird simply for the third "movement". It's from a relatively unknown album by members of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, featuring Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister fame, and is one of my favorite albums for it's love letters to classical music. Hearing it on television for an international audience when I was 17 blew my mind, and I'm so glad I could find it again!

The Kerrs are so cool! The music, the costume, everything, such a joy to watch. I'm glad that mistake didn't influence the power of the rest of their performance, as there was so much to enjoy. And I also love the unisex vibe ot their performance, not only in that reverse lift, but also in the first spin, where he's doing the camel and she's holding his blade, which is usually the opposite. So cool and unusual altogether.

It's still true that someone else can beat them even though they're certainly the greatest of their generation and even though they stand to be very likely the greatest of all time at the end of their career. In sport competitions you can be beaten also if you're the best of the world.Certainly no one is able nowdays and will be able in the next future to give the audience the emotion they can put in their skating.I saw them in Nice. They didn't skate at their best. But they were magical anyhow.

I've watched this entire video over and over and they're all wonderful. I keep thinking that the Russians, Jana Khokhlova and Sergei Novitski, who danced Stravinsky's Firebird, would have been wonderfully dramatic dancing under a spotlight in a darkened auditorium.

It's nice to see all the positive comments, no bickering or insulting other teams. After years of controversy in dance, it was so great to see the past Ice Dance competitions, at the last two Olympics (2006 and 2010) judged so well. No controversy, everything that happened on the ice showed up in the results. Though I'm Canadian, I'd still have been happy if Davis/White won. They were beautiful as well.

That OD of D/W was great but V/M skated closer together, had more relaxed and fluid handholds, and they pay far more attention to where they place their free leg. The last aspect is where D/W is rather weak, although they've improved on that in the last couple of years.

I think D and W win on originality by V and M better captured the authenicness of their dance and technically performed it better although both teams are exceptional technicians. ON the other hand, D/S who came in 3rd were way over scored. I won't event bother to talk about their horrific costumes but I thought they did not necessarily capture the true aspects of original dance but rather gave a mock version of it. The rubbing of the noses at the end was almost making fun of the indigenous people in Northern Canada (now called Inuit, formerly Eskimos). Also, the facial expressions of the Russians lmost suggested they were making fun of the Aboriginal people. Technically too, they were not as strong as several teams that finished behind them.

Carmanah Gauthier Everyone has their time in the spot light, this time it belonged to tessa and scott but sochi belonged to Davis and white. Davis and White was way better. And the season leading to sochi tessa and scott lost their inspiration.

I like how the Figure Skating events took place in the Pacific Colosseum, an arena that has an amusement park near it (Playland at the PNE, but that place is only open in the summer), and that arena is also used for the PNE's Super Dogs show!
