@@dppatters Television in the 90's were way way different than today and Xena was 90's personified actually. And it wasn't even American, it was shot in NZ with a humbler budget I assume. Television started to change into what it is today, with HBO trying more adept stuff like OZ and more importantly, Sopranos! And also Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a usually overlooked show that actually tried so many things you'd see for cinema in a usual network such as Fox After that, came Lost, and then budgets improved massively etc.

⁠@@dppattersYou do realise they meant it as that way right? The show was always meant to have that cheesy feel to it. There were serious moments but at its core it was always a light hearted comedic show. If you prefer to watch the garbage they call tv then I feel sorry for you.

I used to have a crush on Xena when I was a kid.

Hercules was right, Xena was using Ioalus to get to him. Hercules was holding back in the fight too, he didn't want to hurt him, which he could have. People seem to forget that Hercules is a Demi God with super strength and other abilities.

Not just super strength, he is most powerfull fisicaly than any god, even than zeus hinself, a mere human or even a demi god could never be any match for hin in a fight. The series were never consistent in this aspect, but i guess they had to nerf hin that much just to use hin, otherwise we would had no series =D.

They changed her costume because Lucy Lawless said it was uncomfortable... So they designed a costume more comfortable which became Xena's new iconic look

I was more of a Xena fan but this was the aspect I loved about Xena and Gabrielle too. I know there was the whole lesbian subtext but I found the idea of friends looking out for each other no matter what far more appealing.

lol the acting... I did like that raised eyebrow reaction from Xena though. Fun fact, this was not Lucy Lawless's first role on the show. in Episode 6 she plays "Lyla". this is 3 episodes before the first episode with Xena.

Evil Xena could easily manipulate Iolaus into killing Hercules

To come in between these two Xena must of had that 🔥😺 !

Hercules had Iolaus and Xena had Gabriel....both sidekicks were short and blond...there should of been an episode starring just the sidekicks.

Funnily enough, there’s info out there that Sorbo & Lawless really did hate each other IRL, with Sorbo saying she couldn’t act and only got the job by sleeping her way into it, and Lawless saying that Sorbo was just jealous that Xena became just a popular as Hercules, but in only a few episodes, whereas Hercules had been on for like 4 years already.

Not that it matters, but I think he works (and stars in chess movies) on a Christian movie network. 🤷🏻‍♀ To be honest, I did prefer the series Xena over Hercules. I never saw the appeal of his show. It's too bad to hear that he said those things about her. I enjoyed the series Andromeda on TV years ago.

Lucy outacts Kevin by a country mile, even in her early guest appearances where she’s struggling with her accent Hercules was only out for a year when Xena got the spin off. With her own show Lucy makes a huge improvement in her acting where Kevin remains wooden the whole series.

Nice video the Herc and Iolus battle over Xena was a great tension builder, Hercules would never have killed his best friend much less over a woman using him and Iolus in turn as much as he was infatuated with Xena always held his friendship and brotherhood to Herc above everything else.

The dialog goes from great to terrible in waves... though the tactic of pretending to be against Hercules to pre-empt taking out some of her men was smart.

You know Iolaus is only 5'6". I remember in 1999, when I was starting 6th grade, I was 4'8". This fighting Pokemon called Machoke was 4'11" and he evolves into Machamp who is 5'3" and then Iolaus is 5'6". Well, I surpassed all their heights, but still a little shy shorter than Lawless. By the way, does anyone know if Iolaus actor was #1 choice? Was he chose because of his height? Michael Hurst. I wonder if he was chosen just to make Sorbo seem tall too.

She started off evil in Hercules, in her show she's on the path of redemption which started after her last appearance as "evil" Xena on Hercules. After she comes back in one episode in the ep where Hercules 2nd wife dies she's good

Well, there were a lot of beautiful women there.Especially considering my teenage years at that time. They were all hypersexual and simply admired. And the already mentioned Hera with peacock eyes (Meg Foster) and the black pirate Nevula (Gina Torres) and the horned Siberian witch shaman Alti (Claire Stansfield) are good in their own way. But Kalisto's (Hudson Leick) burning hatred is of course a separate song.

I would slay Xena with my sword 😘

I'm seeing Lucy Lawless for the first time before she got her own show, and the first thing I noticed is that she had plastic surgery. Definitely had a nose job and something with her eyes. It's a shame really; I think she looks even more beautiful here before going under the knife.
