    To be honest. The resort itself is extremely safe and well guarded, so no one really gets in unless they're a guest or employee. The surrounding area is the hotel zone. Which is pretty laid back. The only reason I had to go out of the hotel was for some currency exchanges, everything felt pretty normal.

  • @radtraveldad

    @radtraveldad

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Appy_patel As Mark said, the resort itself is very safe. There's a guard gate at the front driveway of the hotel and they check every car coming and going to make sure they're either a guest or an employee or a driver with a good reason to be there. The Hotel Zone is relatively safe and since it's a heavy tourist area, it's watched the most by the police and Mexican military. When we were there, we took a taxi up to Playa Tortuga for an excursion and hung out there for a little before and felt safe. We even ventured into downtown Cancun to go to Costco and didn't have any problems there. Costco even had an armed security guard at the door to keep things safe. Keep in mind, the media blows things out of proportion. Most of the crime going on in Mexico is between cartels and the Mexican government, not tourists. Enjoy your trip!

    We had a great time, even by pre-COVID measure. The staff treats you like family, the resort is clean and well-controlled. We never saw anyone with symptoms and always felt safe and not at risk. The buffets are open but the serving dishes are turned around to face the staff so that they can plate whatever you choose. The sushi bar was incredible, all of the restaurants were good and we never had any less than a great meal. The only COVID-related downside is that the pool pizzeria wasn’t open and due to the cap at 30% occupancy, only certain restaurants are open each night. So the Italian restaurant is open Tuesday and Friday, the steak restaurant on Monday and Wednesday, etc.. Options were always plentiful though. This is a great resort and we will go back when we return to Cancun. We’re planning to go to Puerto Vallarta in a few weeks because Mexico is the easiest option right now and we enjoyed it and felt safe there.

  • @radtraveldad

    @radtraveldad

    4 жыл бұрын

    One point of confusion we had before going made it sound like there were all-inclusive and hotel-room-only packages. I even saw many websites advertising this resort with two different prices and only one showing "All Inclusive". I had to call and clarify that this resort is 100% all inclusive, they don't sell any rooms by themselves so don't get swindled into paying more! The "All Inclusive" package included everything: food from all of their restaurants, buffet, and room service, beverages alcoholic and non-alcoholic, as well as the mini-bar in your room. Every restaurant had upgraded options that you could pay for but were entirely optional. We didn't pay for any upgraded food and enjoyed everything we ate! The steakhouse they have on site is included in your stay but it is the only restaurant that you need to make a reservation for and they only do it in the afternoons for 2 hours.

  • @radtraveldad

    @radtraveldad

    Glad you enjoyed the video, you will have a wonderful time! The gym was through the spa, I didn't go to it but another member of our group did and said it was small but nice. Had a few treadmills and ellipticals as well as weight machines and free weights. We used Cancun Shuttle for our airport transfer and they were great! www.cancunshuttle.com/ Very reasonably priced and their vans were easy to find from the airport. I emailed ahead and they provided us a car seat for our infant daughter. The car seat itself was a newer, very clean car seat as well. My one recommendation, the Cancun airport has "porters" that will basically take a couple bags for you and escort you to your shuttle and expect a tip even though it was about 10 steps away from the door. It's a little bit of a scam so be prepared and just keep your bags with you and you should have no reason to tip. If that guy still expects a tip for the walk, have only $1 ready. Safe travels!

    Thanks. two more questions - 1) is the coffee maker in the room a standard keurig type? The kind that takes those pods? 2) what is the etiquette for tipping at the resort and in Mexico generally? I have travelled all over the world but never in Mexico.

  • @radtraveldad

    @radtraveldad

    4 жыл бұрын

    The coffee maker takes pods, I don't think they're Keurig sized, they're more like Nespresso sized as you can see at 25:41 in the video. They provide pods to you as you can see on the bar there as well. We didn't use the coffee maker in the room, we just enjoyed it at the buffet! I don't know if there's a specific "tipping etiquette", however, tipping is definitely appreciated by the staff at the resort. They do such a wonderful job and they certainly earn their tips. Personally, we stayed for 7 days and brough $150 in $5s and $1s for tip money and we used all of it. We tipped our housekeeping $5 per day for taking care of our room and it showed, they left us extra waters and toiletries every day. We tipped $1-$2 per person to our server for each meal, if we went to a fancier dinner, we would tip more like $3 per person. Whenever we were served drinks out by the pool or beach or up at the bar, we would tip about $1 per drink. If you're hanging out on the pool deck, you'll have your specific server who takes care of you for the whole day and most the time he or she would serve us for hours and then we would just tip them $20 for all their service. Like I said, tipping isn't expected, it's not like they're requiring it but they certainly earn it! Hope you enjoy your trip! :)

    Yes, I would highly recommend it for kids! All of the staff at this resort loved our daughter and theywere so friendly. The pool is pretty kid-friendly and even has a play / splash area in the pool away from the deep section where most of the adults hang out. The only issue was that some of the walkways that are most convenient aren't the most stroller friendly and might have stairs so just think out your path before you head out to the pool or beach! :) Safe travels!

    We had an amazing time with our daughter who was 10 months at the time. All of the employees at the resort loved her and always came to say "Hi" in the mornings when we went to breakfast. The only possible issue we had was that some of the ways down to the pool had stairs and there are stairs down to the beach so occasionally you may need to lift your stroller to get around. Hey Christal & Joe! We actually booked our reservation through Expedia as a vacation package, I highly recommend checking prices on Expedia vacation packages because you’ll get the best deal on flights along with your hotel, sometimes the flights are even “free” depending on where you’re flying from. You can book excursions through the resort, I would reach out to their Concierge directly. When we went, we booked our excursions using the GoCity Cancun pass which gave us 3 days of activities with one big activity, it was a great deal through Costco. I don’t think Costco has them anymore (since the pandemic) but you should be able to find it on their own website. Let me know if you have any other questions! 😁

    When you assume that people don’t mind when you bring your screaming kid into a nice restaurant, or into the adult side of the pool, you are being rude and oblivious. Other people don’t think your kid is the cutest thing on earth. they’re not giving you any grief… That’s because they’re being too polite to tell you you’re being impolite.

  • @radtraveldad

    Just to clarify, our child was not screaming, she was being a little loud in a quiet Italian restaurant at the all-inclusive resort and we were keeping her as entertained as possible. I was primarily trying to note that the staff and restaurant are welcoming of children. Our child was certainly not the only one in the restaurant that evening. This specific Fiesta Americana property is a family resort, children are expected and are present in almost all areas of the resort. If you are looking to have a quieter child-free vacation, I would recommend an adults-only resort. Fiesta Americana has a beautiful adults-only resort in Cancun, Live Aqua that is incredible and might be more to your liking. Thanks for watching, glad you liked the video! We travel everywhere with our daughter and it's putting children in those situations that teaches them how to behave properly. Honestly, she is not disruptive 9 times out of 10. That particular restaurant was a quiet Italian restaurant (quiet compared to the buffet) so it seemed loud to us. This particular resort is not adults only and the restaurant was not the fanciest in the resort, we certainly did not have the only infant or child in the restaurant that night. I completely understand your want to have a child free vacation, in which case I wouldn't recommend this resort and would say an adults only resort would be more to your liking. Enjoy Cancun!
