I never pass over anything dealing with the American Civil War. After finding this movie and seeing that it was both co-produced and written by David M Kennedy, I knew this was going to be history at its best. After watching the film with all its truths of those trying years, it reminded me of a quote I'd come across in the past about the proper role of a historian. That their role is not to propose or impose, but to expose. Thank you, David M Kennedy and company.

War is so senseless. Even knowing that these were just young kids they still fought the war like they were told to. Each side fighting for what they believe in. this movie made history come alive. I’m a Canadian, but I’ve always enjoyed reading books about the Civil War. A well done movie, it was very real. Back during the time when people still believed in God, country and family. thanks for posting this movie.

WHAT "mistakes"? The Civil War was decades in the making, and for many was no "mistake". Wars are fought; people die. Freedom is not free. People must risk lives, property, careers, reputations, fortunes and more to sustain their places in life. You sound like a spineless pacifist. People who sounded like you made it possible for the Hitlers and Stalins of the world to murder millions lest they make the "mistake" of opposing them on the battlefield. I suppose you also think the Ukrainians are "mistaken" in opposing Putin.

Watching so many western movies, 1 comes around like this one to give an insight on life outside of the west. what life was actually like in what was cities than. You start to feel that little has changed since the 1850s and 1860s on how our homes looked on the inside. You can see some differences and things that are missing than what we have now. But over all, things barely changed since than. Kind a like my spelling and grammar has not changed in generations.

Your father/grandfather was as courageous as others of many colours and creeds in that war I have no doubt and he, like others should have had the right to choose his path afterwards but the U.S was slow to accept that `All men are created equal` as your declaration of independance states.

This movie is a great example of the division in my homeland....the border of Kansas and Missouri....I would never call myself a Yankee.. here in Cambodia, I hate when Brits.. Aussies call me a Yank.. An old black woman lived in our house to take care of me...I love her forever....Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin which dramatically changed cotton processing. It is a shame he changed to inventing new weapons for the north during the war. The stuff Lincoln did in Missouri would be war crimes now... Incredible period ... Lee turned down Lincoln's offer... Arlington national cemetery sits on Lee's wife's home. He put dead boys in her rose garden... Grant and Sherman fought how you must if you want to win. Something the USA forgot how to do the last 78 years..

Im from California and I don't like being called a yank either. My Family was in California since before 1793 when it was Mexico. But we are Irish. So Ive never felt any connection with the whole civil war thing. But I like History. I think that The USA is too big and should be split up. The South can go their way and California would become one of the richest and Most powerful countries in the world. And we could finally keep all you Americans out. We are always having to bail out the rest of the states for the stupid decisions they make. For every Federal Tax dollar a Californian Pays $.73 is spent in California. In Texas its $1.44 mostly because of the Military Industrial Congressional Congress. Cambodia is a fascinating country I spent a few weeks in Siam Reap in 2022. I now live in Portugal. Could not stand living in the USA anymore.

It's not a bad country, can be a good place to make money, just be prepared to work like crazy and hopefully don't get shot by all the random crazy people. I don't know your situation, but hopefully in 5 years or so things will turn around.

This movie is nearly unique, it shows the REAL civil war when the South wins battles. Not like 95% of propaganda movies showing the North winning. That was ever hardly the case.

I'm a Brit. We had our own civil war, long before yours. We honour our dead without fear or favour. The US has allowed political pressure from wider society to force change in your treatment of soldiers who died for the Confederacy. I flat out cannot understand why even your General's can allow this. AMERICAN soldiers died fighting bravely for America's freedom, for their home states. And yet you are allowing some dead soldiers, America's sons, to be denigrated for political bollocks! You should be ashamed of yourselves! I see only dead AMERICAN soldiers, patriots to the end. Remember America - these were all your children!
