    Darol is so insanely good. One of my absolute favorite fiddle players. I've learned so much about playing blues and jazz from him.

    I haven't even touched my fiddle yet and i can already hear it working...this is a very good tip. Why didn't I ever think about this before? I think i have always just gone from case to case without looking for a rule. I've always been thinking about chords and arpegios...bits of scales, but no average rule like this. I'm gonna watch this again tomorow.

    Same idea in bebop by adding an extra note everything lines up and the chord tones land on the strong beats.

    With a lot of jazz playing you tend to leave out the fourth to avoid that minor 9th sound, I wonder if this is the fiddle equivalent! That being said, I am unsure why the 7th is excluded on the way down. haha But this totally cool and accurate now that I think about it a little more. haha :D

    So the blues scale is leaving out the fourth and seventh? And flattening the 3rd, 5th, ?

    Depends on what key you're in. That's why I like to use numbers, because they are independent of the key... then when the singer wants to change the key, you're still good to go.

    Okay, but why not go full-on pentatonic? You can always add the odd accidental if you need to.

  • @darolanger2297

    @darolanger2297

    A Pentatonic scale not really so much in the style. It would work, of course. But we usually set up patterns for pentatonic more in Jazz music. This scale really sets you in Bluegrass, adds the color of the 7th and 4th, and enables you to land "on your feet", as it were.
