Fiberglass Reinforcement And leak Prevention Catamaran Roof Starboard Side

Ғылым және технология

The cabin roof of the catamaran is a dome made of urethane foam with fiberglass on both the inside and outside. Separating the layers of fiberglass with a relatively incompressible core greatly strengthens the structure.
I spent a lot of time sanding through whatever was up there and cleaning before applying a couple of thin layers of glass and then some gelcoat. This should prevent any leaks well into the future.
I wanted to get the roof in good shape before we put the solar panel rack on the boat because any work on the roof after the rack is in place will require squeezing into the narrow space between the top of the roof and underside of the rack.
Maybe I can finish the other side next week.

They tell me the travel lift should be repaired in about a month. There will be a great exodus of boats from the yard then and I hope to have the catamaran ready to go in the water by then. I can work on the interior once its back at my dock where I don't have to pay storage every month. Of course I'll have to drive it around a bit.

This cabinroof looked rough like the surface of the moon ;) Now you can be sure it does not only look a lot better, but it also will be watertight. Nice job!

At least it won't leak. Even a little drip drip will soak your bed in an hour. The smell of mold in a boat that leaks is unbearable.

That's true! The inside has to be absolutely dry. Otherwise it is no fun.

Its been since August so far, and I expect at least another year. But that doesn't matter because my time is worth nothing.

He did sail that's where the channel originated.

A guy made a comment don't you learn to sail. I pointed out that is where the channel started. This begs the question what is the optimal answer? I remember your whole rational about why you switched to the cabin cruiser. It's the same as put forward in a discussion in the book Passagemaker by Robert P. Beeb. He calls it proceeding with dispatch. Making predictable passages. I am wondering where you are going with the catermaran project. She would make a good base for a lot of solar power. With wind and solar, you could have a much reduced rig. I discovered something interesting about my favourite rig the dipping lug. Apparently, it is quite good at going to windward. By the way I have figured out how to make your own carbon fibre masts. It's so breathtakingly simple and cheap (for carbon fibre). Meanwhile, I had better get back to building my cabin.😊

I hate sailing. I hate boats. Its a floating homeless camp for me to live in anchored 100 feet from some billionaire's mega-yacht. If he moves, I move too. He can't escape me any more than I can escape jobs that don't pay enough to rent the crappiest apartment in the city where the job is offered. Its a new form of warfare, the boat looks ugly because its ugliness is weaponized.

@ninehundreddollarluxuryyac5958 Then, in that case, consider becoming a homesteader. There is something wrong with American society. I think it is something to do with the massive influx of immigrants. I was poor as dirt last year, but living the way I do has allowed me to pay off all my debts and the mortgage on my house in Portugal. To me, Portugal is the new America. I was under the impression that you were prosperous and owned a house. I was also under the impression you were retired. The one thing Portugal has that America doesn't is a free national health service. Healthcare can ruin you in America. The writer Lionel Shriver said she got out because anything could happen, like a kid just crashing into her on his bike and she could be wiped out financially. I shouldn't say this but Portuguese resideny/citizenship is the best thing that could happen to an American. Six months in each country and anything happens get the hell out of America fast. I have a lot of family in the Philippines so that is my bifecta life I am settling up.

@@DavidPaulNewtonScott I've thought about Portugal. Almost moved there a while back but America gave me a doper's license so they will no longer be hunting me over a joint. A friend of mine lives here but also owns property in the Galicia region of Spain, he also wants to move to northern Portugal. Thanks for suggesting that. Another possibility is making a stealth cabin on one of the more remote islands in the Bahamas. The boat is for a trip to some of the most remote, unvisited islands. The Exumas region of the Bahamas used to be beautiful back in the 1980's but it is fished out and overrun by rich guys in mega-yachts. Some of the more remote areas are so difficult to get to that almost nobody goes there. If you build a house in a place where nobody ever goes but you, do you own it? Does it matter? I might use a big winch to haul the boat out of the water in some remote place and tie it to the trees so a hurricane can't push it back in the water so I could live in there.
