    As a barrier heals main, I tried Sage out as an objective experiment. Before I knew it, I had made the decision to put the book down permanently. While Sage and Scholar are, point-for-point, on-par with one another (each gaining what the other lacks,) it boils down to a matter of play style. For me, the way Sage plays fits my play style as a healer, in-general, better.

    It's pretty useful in other areas too. For example in the video I mention you can use it for an AOE (200p) then have it drop down to 4 stacks healing you for 400 potency then leaving having the last shield last for something else (200p) that's 800 potency right there which is pretty strong considering the rest of Sages toolkit.

    I was in the same boat. When I was running with a tank that was even slightly inefficient on their mitigation abilities.... I was losing them fast on WtW pulls. Realized after watching this vid that adding Haima/Panhaima to the start of the pull gave the tank the sustain they needed so I could focus on DPS and not worry about them dropping.

    if theres one disagreement i have with him its that its 'totally different than scholar' the kit is exactly the same. a shield/heal with a button to reverse which it does, and an aoe version. a big heal with a long cooldown. a ogcd heal that costs meter. a damage reduction with a hot. an aoe hot with a cooldown. an aoe heal with a cooldown. a dot, a damage spell, a damage spell that costs meter. its just scholar with no pet, and reaper as flashy as it is just has dragoons kit. also, yes someone will lose their fucking mind because they both have like 4 skills that personalize them that are basically meaningless beyond flavor but they're the same. i know this is wordy, but getting tired of guides saying how its such a special snowflake when its what theyve been playing for the last 10 years

    I'm glad that a lot of my feelings on sage were similar to yours (means my intuition and understanding of the game is improving, besides my wonky toxicon math on your previous videos, which your commenters helped correct). I honestly feel like, having played sage a lot now, that having no energy drain equivalent makes the job feel a lot more relaxed to play in many ways. With scholar, I always want to hold off on using soil bc it costs 100 potency, but on sage, your healing toolkit is actually being encouraged to be used, which feels pretty amazing. That being said, scholar's aetherflow actions are competitive with sage's addersgall actions in some regards (soil being 600 potency, and excog being able to be used 45 seconds in advance are both great). Zoe plus pneuma is honestly pretty bonkers. Zoe feels really underwhelming when you're levelling, but the minute you get to 90 it feels like every time you need a large aoe heal you can just pop off. Thanks for the video, they're always great food for thought, and I'll probably join that healer discord you were mentioning :D

    Sage is great for keeping things stable, but when drastic situations happen I think SGE suffers more then any other healer in being able to effectively deal with craziness. In dungeons, my experience has been that Sage is able to take an already good set of players to a whole new tier, being able to do some insane damage and keep everyone hale and hearty. However, moreso then any other healer I find myself struggling when i'm with a set of less experiences players. If your tanks pull big but don't drop cooldowns as Sage, you're in for an incredibly rough time in comparison to some of the other healers that have way better reaction tools and means to deal with that sort of bad situation. It's a trade, and it can be frustrating yet so rewarding when it works out. It's clear this class is very, very powerful. It exemplifies everything about the DPS healer mentality, and actively forces healers to adopt a more aggressive method of healing, and I for one am all for that.

  • @zlonewolf

    @zlonewolf

    Regen healers do way more healers for less mana than shield healers. This is why whm is so powerful. Ast is whm but on steroids with the card system and their ogcds not tied to resources. For 400m you can keep a tank alive indefinitely. For 1k mana you can turn the tide of a raid-wide versus cure 2. People underestimate regen healers. Shield healers are mitigators. Its great on a tank when it crits and Scholar kit is perfect for that. Sage is so-so. But their shields eat mana. Thats why they got mana % skills on ogcds. As far as wall to wall pulls, just be ready to heal regardless of the healer. No regen or shield can keep up with oncoming dmg. Ogcds cycle with gcds and mana regen skills are your friend. Especially when tank decides to pull without stopping to see if the healer is close by.

    Phelgma's range being short is really annoying. I think the design intention was that you would combo it after Icarus, but in practice, it just makes using it on single targets fairly restrictive and un-fun. Icarusing to the boss every 90 seconds to dump your stacks of phlegma sounds like a cool mechanic to spice up the healer dps rotation, but they didn't flesh the concept out as much as they did with red mage. Maybe they could add in some mechanic that would give an addersting if you combo phlegma with icarus. That way you could use the toxicon stack to reposition yourself from melee range. It would also spice up the aoe rotation and give a way to generate addersting on a CD without being too much. The best part is that toxicon is dps neutral, so it wouldn't throw the class out of balance damage-wise.

    I'm of the opposite mind. It's very similar to miasma II weaving on SCH where melee uptime was of the essence. Healers are already braindead at this point, weave whatever heal in your gcd and you're done. Phlegma pushes you to stay within melee range, which in addition to being a nice change of gameplay in an ever-increasingly homogenized pool of healers, also gives us something to think about and preplan for. aka play your healer like a melee. I personally love that aspect of SGE and I suspect SE set it up this way for all the players complaining about what SCH had become during shb.

    I usually just stay in or near melee pretty much all the time. It's often one of the safest places in combat and easiest to avoid cone AOEs when close. Melee also a great place to cast all our point-blank AOE heals. I mostly use phlegma for movement, usually saving a charge. It's pretty cool when you use it to avoid an enemy's cone by circling the it cuz phlegma's animation has a spin.

    I know that in reality you get this on like every video and are tired of it but do you have have any plans to do a general guide for extreme/savage healing on sage, if anything after the savage tiers come out? It has easily grown to become my main and I've been doing the new extremes on it and while I like the toolkit, I sometimes feel like I am struggling to pump heals compared to my co-healer WHMs and ASTs. And I've really kind of been stumped as to how to improve in that front. To be fair, I have yet to really log the extremes, as I did them before the fflogs page was properly updated, but it does feel like I've done what I can, using pneuma to heal up big aoe hits, holos for akh morn style stacks, physis to cover aoe damage during downtime, and yet it still feels like my co-healer is pulling ahead. I'm sure there are things I'm missing, so this would be incredibly appreciated. Thank you!

    Sage's kit focuses heavily on mitigating damage and maintenance heals, rather than raw burst healing, and seemingly has less resources for healing throughput than the other healers. In clean runs with good coordination from your cohealer and minimal mistakes it's not terribly noticeable, however you really feel it when mistakes are made and you need to pump out heals to get things back on track. You do have a few options for big burst heals, but they are all on cooldowns (aside from spamming diagnosis/prognosis, which is not ideal). Eukrasian Diagnosis/Prognosis + Pepsis is a good combination for burst healing, especially when buffed by Physis II/Krasis, and can be followed up by Ixochole/Druochole. Another big burst heal is Zoe + Pneuma for a big 900 potency AoE heal which can also be buffed by Physis II or Krasis. Really though, Sage shines on having a lot of mitigation and healing buffs in their kit to prevent damage and increase the healing received by the party. So, at a basic level, if no one is dying due to lack of mitigation on your part and your cohealer (or you) isn't being forced to spam GCD heals, then you're good. I wouldn't worry too much about not having the same raw healing power as the regen healers.

    I definitely look at toxicon and movement very differently, probably from mostly running lower difficulty content so far. I always thought of Eukrasia as the first movement tool, and toxicon as the second. So although it’s DPS neutral in a single gcd vacuum, i think of it as half potency for two gcds of movement. Especially cuz that shield WILL get value on the tank because there’s no way there won’t be enough damage to break it in 30 seconds. Although maybe your tank doesn’t collect vuln stacks like mine. Also due to the lower skill level I use more gcd heals I’m general. On top of that eukrasia is a good panic button of “oh I have to move” and then deciding if replying DoT or putting a shield on the tank is better

Basically, how do you make it so you can pack anyone around you without having to move your camera? Right now I have it set to automatically facing and if I'm running away from a Target attacking them snaps the camera behind me so now I'm running the other way.

The potency doesn't change due to gear or level (unless the ability upgrades later) either so it's always useful and easy to memorize and compare. I love how quickly you can react with GCD shields. As a Scholar, thanks to the cast time, you can't react quickly enough, your shields aren't there on time. And as a Sage, you even get an Addersting back while the Scholar gets nothing. Getting something back for GCD shielding makes one hell of a difference. I underestimated how low the Sage mobility is when you refuse to lose damage. I wished Iccarus had a lower cooldown. I always feel like there are 5 to 10 seconds left when I want to use it. But being able to GCD heal on the move makes up for it.

    True, however with a Scholar not only can you guarantee that it lands a critical double-shield, but you can also turn that double-shield into pure healing. It's a very different style of play, and with Sage being even more reactive than other jobs, it's severely lacking in tools to pull you out of a sticky situation. All their big heals are abilities, not spells, so you can't even benefit from Zoe on them.

Ixochole is only 400p aoe Kardia/Soteria pull more weight than any other ability in single target healing. Most of your time should hlbe spent DPSing while applying 10% mitigation to keep the tank from taking excess damage and therefor letting the situation get away from you. There is 0 reason to waste a GCD to cast ED when a tankbuster is coming, unless they have several Vuln stacks and are guaranteed to die, but in this case, they should pop immunity. The tank should know well enough to mitigate.

    Been loving SGE so far, my only issue with it is that Eukrasia feels kinda clunky to use on high latency, it would be butter smooth if it turns into an oGCD. That and the fact that it doesn't have any form of "panic button" which i learned to love in WHM, SCH and AST, but that's mainly personal and don't affect the experience at all.

  • @zlonewolf

    @zlonewolf

    2 жыл бұрын

    Sge and Sch are played almost 90% same. Your "panic" buttons are your shield rotated with your heal. If you only shield you will let the tank die as the heal portion of Eukrasia is 40% only. It should be shield>heal>shield (when shield depops). Taurochole is 10% mitigation and equivalent to 50% of bene. 700 potency on a tank is massive heal. The other 600 potency heal is lower level for dungeons that lock out taurachole but that skill doesnt have 10% mitigation. Addersgall is FAR superior to Whm lilly system. If anything whm brings stronger ogcds but Sge brings superior ogcd resources. Sge is THE only healer that cant insta-cast Eukrasia spells. Thats insta-cast shield that no other healer have including even Scholar. Pre-cast Eukrasia in advanced unless you already know it isnt needed or you know that shielding isn't mana efficient. Thats only downside to Eukrasia is the higher mana.

    I think the problem is that when you have good players sage feels overpowered and it depends on the content. The issue tends to be when paired with bad tanks in dungeons who wall to wall pull but don't properly use mitigation. It is a very specific situation but for people who do a lot of expert and leveling dungeon in duty finder who are having the trouble. There are a lot of times when I have been paired with tanks where I was reduced to spamming E.prog on them and burning every CD to keep them alive because they don't really mitigate well. It is literally an issue of sustained high damage healing that they have a problem with. The problem is that before tanks have been able to get away with that because the other healers have the sustained throughput to deal with that, sure the dungeons actually goes slower because of the loss of healer dps even if it makes the tanks personal dps slightly higher. In trial and raid content sage feels great and borderline overpowered. The problem is that I don't see a real fix for the issue. It is just a weakness of their kit is that when they have to GCD heal they end up as one of the very worst healers. You can't really buff things or they will end up overpowered though as they have some of the best burst healing tools available. I think so much of the big polarizing difference in opinion in how it feels comes from the fact that most of the time you never need sustained healing for much of the high end content. I mean the upper levels of the playerbase are spending their time all doing the extreme trial right now. The players doing that don't really experience the problem that often, I mean they might do a daily expert but I know a lot who don't even bother with that, they are not likely going to be doing the level XX or leveling roulette. On the other hand your more casual players are probably running multiple expert duties and doing all the different roulette options so they experience it a lot more often.

    I love sage and it's got some rough edges but it's still really great. Some of it is just QoL stuff or personal preference changes but nothing game breaking I think most would agree. I personally would like to see Eukrasia as an ability and not a spell. When you're constantly casting anyways you have to wait for the GCD to be up to even use it and then you can use your other ability. Phlegma is annoying with it's range but the rest of the kit is fun so I tolerate it. Pneuma is strong but in some cases is not useable because it requires an enemy target. Situational but still annoying. The other stuff that's weird has already been said. Addersgall abilities tied to mana regen or most damage reduction abilities stuck with an up front heal that can often go wasted, while not broken just seems a bit odd. Still highly recommend the job to others.

    Eukrasia makes Sage THE most mobile healer. Scholar has to stand for 2 seconds eating oncoming raid-wides and wiping to use Adloquim or succor. Sage doesnt have the same problem. Sage is THE only shielding healer that can cast a powerful medica with prognosis and turn his Eukrasia prognosis into succor that has 225% shield. Scholar shields take 2 extra seconds to cast AND cost more mana. Its a slap in the face when your group is dying while you're standing there casting. Sage can cast prognosis follow by Eukrasia Prognosis in the same time it takes Scholar to cast a single Succor. Sage is underrated and their gcds with Eukrasia and regular prognosis is underutilized. Their ogcds don't work against them unlike scholar. The only thing is missing is strong passive fairy heals which Scholar does better. Kardia is a weaker fairy heal system that can only target one person at a time thus far weaker and more mana intensive.

If you are using it as a movement skill you are doing it wrong. Using your GCDs is very low on the priority list and not something you need to do in any content currently. If you are using Prognosis to heal people up you are doing something quite wrong as well. It's 300 potency, which makes it very weak. It's not underutilized at all It's also not true that the Scholar shield takes 2 extra seconds to cast, it takes 1 extra second, you seem to forget that Eukrasia in itself has a cast time of 1 second. You also seem to be forgetting that Scholar still has by far the biggest shields with Adlo+DTac. Even your complaints about Sage are nonsense. The fairy also only targets one person at a time and since you always want that person to be the tank, the fact that she can target someone else who is at 99% HP is a negative, not a positive. Toxicon is not a dps loss, it's dps neutral. It sacrifices 1 cast of doses to put up a shield to get the same potency back. The nice thing is both putting up the shield and toxicon can be done while moving. So with planning you can fit both of them into windows you couldn't apply damage anyway. The shield is even easier as many raid wides have windows that you pop party wide mid and shield then still have enough time to put the single target shield on at least one sometimes 3 targets getting you all your stings back when the raid wide lands. This is even easier when working with your CO healer. If they are going to take the brunt of the raid wide you can just focus on putting up your 3 shields.

    It took me about 20 mins to set up my Sage Bars since I had to sort of hybrid them between my SCH and WHM ones - I still can't tell all the "-osis" abilities apart, but I can at least use them effectively based on positions on my crossbars - but the Job seems to have an interesting mix of "clunky to the unwary, but potentially hella overpowered in the hands of a master". Like...Sage is almost TOO good. Imagine if you took ShB's AST, but then made it where they could toggle between Diurnal and Nocturnal in battle but take away the cards, and then gave it all the things SCH and WHM had been asking to be given for 2-4 years. That's Sage. It can shield, it can heal, it can mitigate, and it gets continuous passive healing (by doing damage) on par with Eos that can even be specifically targeted. And it does all this with over the top hyper-cool visual and audio flares. As such, I'm not sure it NEEDS more power. I find it difficult to argue that Icarus needs a shorter CD, for example, while we have WHM over here that isn't any more mobile than SGE is AND has far more issues in need of addressing. The argument "the least mobile should get more charges" makes sense...if we finish that sentence as "the least mobile within a role should get more charges...than the other, more mobile members of the role". As SGE is the ONLY ONE with a movement tool like that, having ONE charge is already "more charges than the other(s)". I don't think it needs MORE. :) The only bit of clunk with me for SGE is the cast time on their ultimate, but it's also arguably one of the more powerful ultimates and would be even more op without one. As noted, Panhamia already works arguably better than things like Liturgy of the Bell. I feel like SGE is in such a good place right now, giving it even more would arguably make it too overpowered, a line it's already straddling.

Consider the fact that Regen is 250 potency with the new trait every 3 seconds and extrapolate that 170/2.4 over 3 seconds instead. That equates to 212.5 potency. With Soteria, that's 318.75. This costs you ZERO GCDs. So you effectively have something close to a free Regen at all times. It's exactly 85% of the potency of a Regen without Soteria, and is +27.5% more potency than Regen with Soteria. Also free. So a WHM, to be able to match this anywhere, would have to waste a GCD every 18 seconds. That is truly awful. Since WHM has so few off GCD heals they could fit in a matchbox, Sage blows it out of the water in so many ways right now imo. I don't think anyone can complain about Sage unless it's to talk about the lack of a party buff like AST and SCH get. That's pretty much all it lacks though. That and maybe Rhizomata should have a lower recast, or should have charges, both. Or perhaps have some kind of trait that makes it's recast get faster if it doesn't something like proc Kardia's heal. But it has so much, I feel like that's just being greedy and am pretty content with it atm.

    Its probably an undergeared tank. Use Eukrasian heals with pepsis. Alt between Eukr diagnosis and diagnosis. Get your crit gear up so the Eukrasian diagnosis becomes a massive tank buster eating shield. Use taurochole and druachole to supplement mana as theyre Lustrate but better.

    As far as raw gcd shielding Sage is better. Instant gcds from Eukrasian. Panhaima and haima is very powerful ogcds. Its not a resource unlike Scholar Seraph veil. You can cast it instantly whenever. Besides instant shielding, Sage and Scholar shielding is similar in potency with Sage having slight edge in user friendly cast speed and skills not tied to resource.

    Why not make Rhizomata 2 minutes, but have it give 1 Addersgall and say 1000MP with it? To help it act better as a recovery move as you would more likely insta-use the 2 addersgall it gives you to get that 1000MP anyway so it giving 1000MP on the spot outright gives you more control of what you use that extra addersgal for.

    @@KainZC 3 is too much because you'll probably already have one, and if you hit 3 it resets your gauge buildup to 0. So if you were 80% of the way to another Gall then you'll lose that progress. It also stops building until you spend one, which delays your Gall for the rest of the fight. I'd rather have 2 more frequently, it's more flexible

    All I want for SGE is Icarus being made usable more often. Ideally, drop its cooldown to 15 seconds so it’s in line with other similar movement abilities. Comprise, I’d take dropping its cooldown to 30 seconds if it got a second charge. Worst case, leave it at 45 seconds but give it three charges in total.
