thank you for this video! i have been working on sage and those big pulls make me nervous. it's nice to see you play through a whole dungeon while going over your process. i have a tendency to sort of "over-heal" but i usually heal as a white mage so it's so easy to do and there are so many resources for big heals. sage is a different beast that definitely takes some getting used to. :)

This is great. Only thing I can recommend is putting a big cast bar somewhere where people can easily see what you are casting.

If you are worried about letting people die in Dungeons since most tanks just do double pulls now without even asking, do the Trust dungeons. It takes about 2 runs per level, and you can do the first two in ShB to get to about 74 and really get used to Sage because it's _very_ different than the other healers. in Trust Dungeons the tank (probably Thancred) follows you, so you can do single pulls to practice. Two additional suggestions: All the "XX% extra healing" abilities stack, so use those _before_ you shield because the shield is calculated by how much healing you do, this is super important for the double pulls in dungeons and big damage in Raids/Trials. Secondly, I'd always suggest shielding the Tank with the Eukrasian Diagnosis on Tank Busters simply because you get a free AddersString stack instantly, so not only does it mitigate the damage, you get mana free damage back at the boss.

I have been a healer main since 1.0 and this job really relies heavily on the tank also being thoughtful. You can get the most out of a sage if the tank manages their abilities as well. I have had the most trouble with tanks that just pull, pull, pull then dont do any mitigation which makes healing as sage even more stressful. I have watched tons of guides and followed all of these suggestions and still tanks hps just dip too far to recover. On bosses and trials its fine, in dungeons its a nightmare for me lol

bro....same exact boat. bean whm main since 2.0, ast since hw. im a pure healer but i completely understand the concept of barrier healer/healing through damage (i played disc priest in wow). but damn....it just doesnt work! i theorycrafted by myself, watched tons of videos and read discussions. i copied their combos for wall to wall pulls verbatim and NOTHING. on paper it sounds great but once im in a lvl85-90 dungeon the tanks HP just drops like a dead fly and theres no way to get it back up. i cant do my damage rotation cause unless i spam him with all the ogcd and then gcd he'll k.o. i understand and apply the theory but in reality it simply does not work. it always ends up being one of those "everybodys got a plan till they get punched in the face" kind of situations. maybe i just keep getting horrible tanks and then i dont go back in for 3 days cause i feel like i have to study more. and then i get another horrible tank and back to the drawing board for 3 days. but even with horrible tanks, every healer should have the tools to not let the group wipe (even if they have to resort to spamming). its been a year since you made this comment...how did you solve the situation?

i was so wrong about all of this. sage is so easy. the only problem was i was barely minimum item level while leveling it through 80-90 dungeons. and inexperienced tanks were pulling wall to wall in bad gear, poor cd management and dps taking an eternity to burn down the trash. went back to try it in 6xx gear, pfff...piece of cake. even crappy tanks barely drop below 70% hp

Great video! I want to try out Sage, but like with all new jobs it takes time to understand the new spells and what they do and understand the rotation and what to use etc. This is a great break down on how to run dungeons and what to do! Now all I got to do is actually give it a try myself ;D How about for another video talking about setting up skill bar and which skills should be where? Keep up the good work!

Love this video, helps me understand a lot. As those AoE shields and such I figured I'd saved them for the group.. And not doing what you did using them to help mitigate and shield the tank more. Taken a lot of information from this, thanks a lot! :D

I was proud of myself on the last 2 big pulls when I was sage and the tank was a dk. Early game EW dks have a hard time with big pulls so doing the toxicon dps window from the shield breaks and give hiema and panhiema rotations with the other instances. Spacing them is key and was so happy to finally see the dk shine once again in a 3 group hard pull.

Building addersting while the tank is pulling is great, but you'll want to back off from it with the pack is being fought. Because of the timing of pulls, there's no reason not to start each trash pack with weaving Krasis>Physis>Kerachole (which gives both HoTs a significant boost) in between damage, which will generally give you 15 seconds of not having to worry about your tank. Once that drops, I let HP come down a bit, then hit taurochole (remember that Kerachole and Taurochole mitigation do not stack) and Haima, then consider if I want to pop a longer CD like Soteria, Holos, or Zoe > Pneuma. Personally, I feel Holos is the least impactful skill we have. It's nice that it will guarantee a 10% mitigation, but the heal is anemic especially given the long cooldown. There really isn't any situation I can think of where I'd use Holos over, say Kerachole or just Ixochole. Personally, I think Holos should be our "recover the party from the reduce to 1hp mechanic," and of we really want to feel good, they could give us Eukrasian Holos to actually give us an emergency tank heal (looking at you, Living Dead).

Great video! I'm just getting into ffxiv (I'm a WoW refugee), so it is nice to see what I'll eventually get to play. I'm slogging through ARR right now, haha. What drew me to the game, and the Sage in particular, is that it plays very similarly to the Discipline Priest in WoW. Both are incentivized to do more DPS than normal in order to heal, and both make heavy use of damage reduction and shields. I was actually able to set up my heal bars almost identically to how they were as far as muscle memory and what each spell does. It really is a difficult shift to play either Discipline Priest or Sage because so much of your healing requires you to get in front of the damage rather than clean up after it.

Is anyone having trouble making a mouseover macro for Druochole? I'm copying similar macros for abilities like lustrate or ED, but Druo always seems to target me when I mouseover, and only the target if I actually target. It's not a huge deal but took a little getting used to.

i just did this dungeon with sage and we had some scary pulls. never wiped but not sure what i am doing wrong. tank was a drk and from what i can see was playing cds. it seems my issue comes from them just dropping so fast when i go to spend my adderstings or reapply my dots. they literally go from topped to under 50% too fast for me to even get another shield on them. kerachole and the hot doesn't seem to do anything, is it leveling gear? lag? or should i not being dpsing at all? i assumed i should be once the pull stopped because of kardia. i do try to throw dots on while the tank is pulling, before they stop, but once they fall off that seems to be where the trouble starts.

Quick question, dropping the Eukrasian Diagnosis on the tank seems to give me aggro (like adding regen to tanks between pulls when I'm on WHM). I know the tank will round them up but is there anyway to mitigate that? I've just been waiting until they grab the mob and then popping the shield on and dpsing to make up for the health they lost.

What do you think about healing power sage vs Astro?

  • @scatterbreak

    @scatterbreak

    2 жыл бұрын

The closest healer I would compare sage to is SCH, but SGE is a lower potency healer, it's mostly about mitigating damage vs massive throughput. It's very versatile and pretty fun since you feel like you're always doing something, and that something is having an impact (regardless of how big/small). But to answer your question, vs Astro, it's not as powerful heal-wise.

I personally went through msq with AST and just leveled SGE to 90 earlier this week. Personally I find SGE is easier when everyone knows what they are doing but new AST is way too busy for me. Maybe because I’m used to raid as Noct AST. I actually was having issue only uses oGCD to keep random tanks alive on AST through the leveling process but when shit goes down, AST is way easier to save the situation than SGE. Haven’t done any EX on SGE yet gonna try that out this weekend

This was nice, but could be better. First of all, check out the names before you go into the guide - it's recorded footage, so it's easy to prepare. If you want to make it even better, you could add the tooltips on screen, so that everyone (who's also still learning the names) knows exactly what you're talking about. (Ofc, that' means more editing, which is time consuming, so just having the names of the spells prepared beforehand is the most important - feels more professional that way.)
