Ben Starr, the VA of Clive, commented that his father passed away while shooting for FF16, so he just used his grief to show a more realistic and full of emotion Clive. His cries for Joshua may as well be real :(

He's probably one of the best VA's in a long time. Even if you didn't know about that fact (which I didn't) he did an amazing job and I can't imagine how his voice was after all the yelling and combat voice lines he's done. He sold so many parts of the dialogue it was insane.

I love that the book was titled Final Fantasy because Clive's adventure really was the "Final" adventure of a "Fantasy" world.

I started sobbing at Gav's words "what they both wanted". Torgal's howl and Jill hugging him while "ugly-crying" definetely broke me

@@outright4697 Yes. But MC who ended up dying in the end for the sake of the world always end up making the most impact to the audience. Although we don't really know if Clive really died since the ending is open to interpretation. Noctis also died and that's why Clive and Noctis are my fave. In fact, Clive and Noctis has so much similarities with each other since both were born in nobility and ended up having their own kingdoms betrayed and destroyed and both ended up dying (in Clive's case, we don't really know). Cloud will always be the face of the FF franchise, but damn Clive and Noctis are still my personal faves.

Either Clive died and he brought Joshua back from death or the more likely scenario Joshua died and Clive took his name.

The two prominent theories is that he was actually able to revive Joshua, and he wrote the story (which Clive said he'd write), or Joshua Rosfield is just an author that put a character into the story with his own name (as a lot of authors will do), and the whole thing was just a tall tale.

they both died actually. Joshua is obviously dead since him and clive both said that phoenix can't bring people back to life (and ultima's power have nothing to do with it. it's it own seperate power. proof of that is that Ultima was scared to die and from the blight. why would he, the creator of the human wuld be scared of death if he could revive himslef of his kin?) Clive you need more investigation, but he clearly died too. It's more about the theme of the game, the thing he wanted to accomplish, Torgal howling and Metia dying saying to Jill that her wish won't be anwsered. These thing make complete sense only if he died. For the Book Gav wrote it since he's the next Cid, so he must carry the wishes of the previous Cids, and Clive's wish was to wrote a book after the fight. With Viviane and Harpocrates he have all the past event on lock, and for the final event he know the most important things: The 3 of them went to Origin, won and died since nobody came back. All the details of the fight or how they die as we, the player, saw in the game is not important from his point of view. He can write anything he want about how thing went in details the main message he need to convey through the book to the humanity stay the same. So he could perfectly wrote the book. Now why he choosed Joshua's name for the author? Hell if I know. If I had to guess it would be either because he knew that Clive would have done the same, either Harpocrates advise Gav to do so, since Harpocrates was impressed by Joshua's ancient knwoledge and was seeing him as a potential successor to him as a historian. So that book would be Joshua's historian book. I could go more in depth about this, but yeah they all died. Or at least it's the most likely scenario.

@@celrokproduction There is a loophole here that Clive potentially made possible. Joshua body was healed and Clive with Ultima's power has the ability to transfer his mind. If Clive survived the fall from Origin. There is no reason that Joshua's Body hasn't suffered a similar fate. And Clive did cast a final spell on the beach, it would be an assumption to believe it failed. Clive's final transformation has been foreshadowed throughout the 3rd Act of the game (post Twinside events).

@@deangraves7462 again... Clive litteraly said that Life have a debut and an end. That's why Phoenix can't bring people back to life. NOBODY could and that one of the major point of the game. This game is not happy-friendly its very dark and the emphasis on death is crutial. Reviving people would not make sense due to the setting we are in. Clive just cleaned him. If Joshua come back the scene where Clive grief his brother would have no purpose at all. That scene is here to make us feel to our core what Clive lost : his little baby brother. Again, Joshua AND Clive said that Phoenix cant revive people. If it could, Ultima and Clive would be immortal which is not the case

@@celrokproduction #1 Reread my post. I never said Joshua was brought back to life. I've always maintained that Joshua's death is permanent and I don't like the theories that says he survived. But it is established in game that spirit transfers are possible, and that a body without a spirit is required for it to happen. Plus, it is not out of left field that Clive finally took the time to save himself at the end of the story because by this point he knew that his power was to great for his current body. #2 The story is just as much about rebirth, transformation, and the power of faith as any other theme. #3 The Clive survives or Clive body swap theory is not a happy ending. #4 I much prefer the theory that Clive did survive long enough to write the story. People undergoing the late stages of the curse have been shown to last minutes to months.
