FEZ, MOROCCO (2023) | 7 BEST Things To Do In & Around Fez
Fez is located in northern Morocco and is commonly referred to as the country’s cultural capital. Dating back to the 9th century, Fez is known for its ancient, chaotic medina filled with madrasas, palaces, residences, mosques, and fountains from this period. It’s also home to the first university in the world according to the Guinness World Records.

7. Explore the medina Fes el Bali
Fes el Bali is the oldest walled part of Fez. It consists of more than 9,000 narrow alleyways, so it’s a true maze. That’s why we recommend going on a guided tour here on your first day. Not only will you see the important historical sights and souks, but you’ll also feel more at ease wandering these tight alleys.

6. Get a view over the medina
The old city of Fes is surrounded by hills that offer panoramic views. The Marinid Tombs are located on the hill that lies to the north of the city. These monumental tombs were originally a royal necropolis for the Marinid dynasty which ruled in the 13th to 15th centuries. And although the tombs are in a heavily ruined state today, it’s still fun to walk around here and take in the views of the entire walled medina area from above.
5. Stroll around the Jnan Sbil Gardens
If you need to escape the hustle and bustle of the medina, then head to the only public garden in the area. This peaceful slice of nature is home to various birds, plants, flowers, and palm tree-lined walkways. Stroll around the gardens to recharge your batteries.
4. Admire the Bou Inania Madrasa
Located in the medina, this ‘madrasa’, or Islamic school of learning, is one of the few religious buildings in the city that non-Muslims are allowed to enter. It was constructed in the 14th century and up until the 1960s, this was an actual functioning theological school. Today, you can admire the beautiful carved woodwork, marble courtyard, mosaic tilework and decorations.
3. Take in the Smells of the Tanneries
The tanneries of Fez are one of the city’s most famous attractions. Located in the old town, the tanneries have been the bustling center of the city's leather industry since the medieval era. The only way to get the iconic bird’s-eye views over the dying pits is to visit the leather stores surrounding the tannery area.
2. Go on a day trip to Volubilis & Meknes
One of the things we liked about Fez was its proximity to other interesting destinations. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Volubilis is situated a one and a half hour drive from Fez. Home to the best-preserved Roman ruins in all of Morocco, this site was one of the most remote outposts of the Roman Empire.

1. Go on a day trip to Chefchaouen
Another great day trip from Fez goes to Chefchaouen, which is a 3.5 hour drive away. It’s known as the Blue City thanks to its picturesque streets filled with houses painted in different shades of blue. The best way to explore these alleyways is to simply get lost and take photos.

Hi, can i buy in fes airport a sim card without registration? And how much is it, please
@worldwildhearts
Жыл бұрын
Yes you can! We bought ours at the airport and they'll just activate it for you on your smartphone. It was 300 Dirham for 30GB of data. That's about 30US$

the best part about this is that you can recharge your sim card anywhere at the small kiosks, it costs 10 Dirham for 1GB of recharge. so depending on how long you stay you dont need to take 30GB, I used 6GB in 2 weeks for example.
Im going for one day to fez, I sure hope nothing bad happens. Since I will be going alone.

For how long did you stay in Morocco? Also howw as the transportation? Buses, taxis, trains?

Hi! We were in Morocco for about 3.5 weeks. We rented a car ourselves, but got a lot of speeding tickets... there are police everywhere at checkpoints. Taxis and tuk-tuks in the cities are definitely everywhere and a good option. There are some bus options between major tourist destinations, but you need to plan in advance a bit and it can be confusing where to find accurate information on bus timings and pickup locations. Best option would be having a private car drive you around the country if you can afford it. Or if you want to go slower, then the busses would work. We have another video about Morocco overall as a country which also includes some more travel tips if you want to watch that: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iK6Km8tucbKoo6Q.html
Why were reasons you didn’t really like Fès , you didn’t really mention. I am curious what they are.

There were quite a few reasons actually... the old town was quite dirty, the scams were the worst in all of Morocco (we felt like everyone in town tried to constantly scam us - no joke), and a lot of the cool attractions that they promote, like the claimed "oldest university in the world", weren't open to the public... it was unfortunate but we talked to other people and many say they didn't like it as much either. It might still be worth for a day, but don't spend 5 days there like we did 😅
what days did you go?

HOW many days enough for Fez?

1-2 days for the city is enough. Add a day for chefchaouen or go there for another 2 days

You never actually said why Fez isn't you're favorite city even though in your intro you said watch & find out why it isn't

There are a few hints throughout the video... like most important historical attractions weren't accessible... so that was a bit of a letdown for us. It also felt like people were constantly trying to trick us or scam us, especially in the medina.
google maps is reliable?
@worldwildhearts
7 ай бұрын
Not inside the medina! Download the App "maps.me" for a more accurate map. It really worked well for us! And don't let anyone misguide you... sometimes people will say "the street is closed" but they just say that so they can guide you and ask money.
CHAUEN or Chefchaouen, it' s the same
