Things To Avoid When TIG Welding Root Pass !
What is a root pass in TIG welding?
Root passes use weld filler material to close the root space between the weld faces. Follow tips regarding shielding gas, welding preparation, and weld techniques to make TIG welding your root pass successful. The video gives viewers good insights into placing excellent and solid root passes. You will get to learn about different technical paths that you can explore. With the appropriate training and practice on the operator's part, learning to place the root can become an invaluable skill!

I have found that one wants enough current to “wake up” the tungsten. Up to 70-80 amps wants a 1/16 tungsten. 100+ desires a 3/32 or so. I’ve yet to go much over a hundred, as access to 220 is difficult for me.

I only can put a perfect root in on carbon at 65 or 70 amps never loose connection. If I go hotter it's constantly loosing connection and opening up the keyhole. I'm confused.. you move faster maybe?
