Ferries, Pickle Boats, and Sea Planes: Vancouver Island & Victoria, BC

British Columbia blew us away with its beauty, culture, mountains, and waters.
During a recent home exchange in Vancouver BC, we explored Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Victoria, Whistler, and took the Sea to Sky Highway. This is the first of three videos from the trip.
We loved that while on Vancouver Island, you are never far from the water. We took a car ferry from the mainland to Vancouver Island, toured Victoria Harbour on a pickle boat, and viewed the greater Victoria Area from the sky in a seaplane.
We will definitely be going back to Vancouver Island, BC.

Drive 'Up Island'! Recommended stops, Goldstream Park, salmon spawning river , big trees. Totem pole viewpoint of the fjord. Split Rock Lookout, incredible view of Saanich Inlet , Brentwood Bay and Mt Baker. Parksville, big wide open beaches. Now a choice, plan A, turn west towards Tofino on Hwy 4. Little Qualicum Falls, Cameron Lake, Cathedral Park, huge trees. Port Alberni, mill town with industrial but scenic waterfront. Sutton Pass, area has highest annual rainfall in North America. At one point, right by the road is a very deep gorge that in the summer has a tiny creek at the bottom. Winter though , it fill right up and almost to the road! Tofino and Ucluelet, both really nice towns, huge beaches open ocean surfing . hot springs, islands , snow capped mountains . Plan B Stay on Hwy 19 towards Campbell River. Elk Falls, hanging footbridge over huge waterfall. Nymph Falls, warm river swimming over the falls, Strathcona Park. Alpine meadows. Mountains, hardcore hiking and easy flat boardwalks!

@@brentwoodbay wow! Thank you! All noted for next June. We are hoping to do another home exchange with the Vancouver folks who now have a home in Comax Valley so that will most likely be our home base. I'll map it all out once we firm things up with them.

Yum! I love Red Fish Blue Fish. Long lines when I've been there, but worth the wait for sure.

We were surprised that there wasn’t a line when we ordered but there was one by the time we left.

Fan Tan Alley Chinatown! As seen in the movie 'Bird on a wire' where Mel Gibson drove Goldie Hawn through there and made it look about three miles long! The volcano you saw was Mt Baker, 10500' high, in WA. Quite often during our winter, the only snow we see ! I'm really pleased that you really liked where we live, Brentwood Bay!

We'll have to watch the movie to refresh our memory of that scene. It's been a while. Thanks for watching and for the info. And yes, we loved Brentwood Bay. Hopefully we will be back next June!
