    Good review but absolutely identical to the Scheppach BTS800, which I own, and the Clarke one, the DrillPro one and in fact every other machine of this size on the market except for one or two micro points like screws replaced by hex bolts etc. That tells me they are all built in the same Chinese factory and are all equally good and bad so my advice is to buy the one with the best price at the time (currently Aldi flogging the Scheppach for £89 quid if anyone interested).

    Nice review. I didn't buy one because the pictures for the current model show (don't show!) an inferior mount for the disc guide table! The 'old style'? mount you have looks much better! I suppose the table could be mounted differently/directly to the bench or a board that the machine could be screwed to? Probably not a problem for most people =D

    Just received mine from Aldi, no delivery charge. There have been a couple of design changes since you got yours: 1. The swivel pin and clamp for the table are now mounted directly on the body of the machine rather than on a pull out arm. 2. There is not a drive belt adjustment screw under the sanding belt. I’ve not used the machine yet so I don’t know if the changes make any difference.

  • @JamesManCave

    James' Man Cave I’ve looked at the manual and there’s no mention of how to adjust the drive belt. Having looked over the machine I noticed that there is an Allen screw at the bottom of the drive belt housing. I suppose this could be for adjustment but I’d have to remove the housing to be sure. Bought one a couple of years back, Just to sharpen chisels, Had very little use , Then it started making a bit of a smell , like something was getting too hot, then the on /off switch stopped working, I’m no electrician but I took the switch off to see if there was any obvious problems, One of the wires looked like it had been overheating, the outer plastic had melted, Never used it since , just been gathering dust, Suppose you get what you pay for, Wouldn’t buy any other tools from ALDI.

  • @ChickenboneJohn

    @ChickenboneJohn

    3 жыл бұрын

    The vibration may not be the drive belt, but may be the bearings. I've had (and worn out) a few bench sanders, and in each case it was the bearing on the drive side that had caused the problem, but it's taken me a while to figure out that this is THE weak point in these machines. They will seize up and then start rotating against the drive shaft itself, wearing a groove all the way round, causing a lot of play and rendering it useless.I've had this happen on Clarke (Machinemart) sanders and on a more expensive Record Power sander. If you are checking or changing the drive belt , I'd advise you to also check that the bearings are turning freely and that there is no play between the bearing and the drive shaft. I've learned the hard way, and in future this will be part of my regular maintenance check and I'll keep a couple of spare bearings in stock. I've just got one of these Ferrex sanders and to be honest it seems no worse than the Record, and indeed is put together more accurately -the Record sanding bed was way out of flat and needed a lot of tinkering with to get reasonable results.

    James' Man Cave Thanks. Does it need bolting down when using? Or is the weight heavy enough. Just ordered one 👌🏻

    @@rhallmedia8473 hi, once you fit the antivibration feet it doesn't need to be bolted down, no. I've never bolted mine down and not had a problem with it, I move mine all around the workshop
