Thanks for the review! My daughter, a relative beginner, bought this as her first electric guitar. While we did take it in and have it set up, the action was not bad out of the box. The guys at the shop were impressed with the Seymour Duncan pick ups used and how straight the neck was. We did have to replace the output jack. It became loose. Seemed cheap. Now new with a nice snap plugging in. Best thing as a smaller girl playing, this guitar is light and thin, perfect. Thanks for showing what the guitar can do with the heavier distorted sound as that is the direction my daughter wants to play.

Excellent review, thanks. Nice to hear lots of playing and not too much talking. Also nice to hear lots of CLEAN playing so we can hear the actual guitar. I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while now - primarily because I have small hands, and I read somewhere that the neck is quite thin and easy to play. Thanks for covering a few jazz tones. While I'm not really a jazz player, I do have leanings in that direction, and it was the one thing I wasn't too sure about. You confirmed that it will do the trick. I generally play an Ibanez 335-style, which I LOVE the sound of, but it can be hard for me to finger some of the more complex chords. I also have a Strat Elite, but I don't play it as much, I think because I'm leaning more towards the warmer tones as I get older. Anyway, thanks again. Good job!

I just bought the amber one from a small shop and had the same issues with set up. I had to give the neck a half turn of relief then set up the action. Pups were way too low so I raised them to Fender specs and still playing and getting them dialed in. The 15.75" neck radius plays smooth and fast. Also had to tighten the nut on the output jack as it was loose. Something I will keep an eye on and use a little Loctite if it becomes a problem. This guitar is a joy to play once everything is right. Unless you buy from a store that will set it up,I would advise having it done. Or do as I did and learn how to do it yourself. Just takes a few tools and some patience and you'll save money in the long run.

Great video. Great playing. I was planning in getting a FTM HH like that one, but since you said your tech told you the neck had "issues" (apart from the fact that the action that was really high and that particular issue was probably fixed be adjusting the rod and lowering the individual saddles), I'm now having cold feet. Would you mind elaborate as to what the luthier said about those issues? I am a player who likes the action down low on his guitars. Thanks in advance.

@@juligan01 Thank you for the quick reply. I guess I misinterpreted what you said. I had to return a Gibson Firebird a few weeks ago because the tune-o-matic bridge was at the lowest setting and the action was still not to my liking. Since the neck was a neck-thru (neck-thru and set/glued necks cannot be shimmed like bolt-on necks) and since the rod had been adjusted to its limit, there was nothing else one could do (except for very costly repairs to the whole guitar). Again; great playing! Cheers!

@@juligan01 as a guitarist i've always believed in specialization. right instrument for the song and all that, changing guitars 3 or 4 times a set and i'm trying to whittle it down to two. i use Teles of various makes and modifations, and Gretsch electromatic Jets with a g5655t (the Electromatic version of a Broadkaster Junior) and i think if i put a SD Phat Cat (humbucker sized p90) in the neck of one of these i got something. i have grown to hate the 59 anyway. i'm a rhythm guitarist, why do i need 2 of the same type of pickup in a guitar? that's the lead guitarists solo pup. i might lower it and use the middle blend sometimes when i'm the only guitar, fill out the mix a bit. but years of lead guitarists soloing with a 59 has spoiled it. i now dread the solo breaks, lol. i myself have gone all-in on the "totally different pup in the neck" thing that has cropped up recently. it's been around for decades but always required the right pup routs to accommodate the pup dimensions. now i tend to run a p90 or Filtertron Blacktop in the neck, 'Bucker bridge in two thirds of my guitars. i now have 2 usable, completely different base tones and a blend that can be used independently or with the other 2.

@@fistovuzi Yeah, I’ve been experimenting with the bridge pup in my Strat for a while now. First I installed a Hot Rails but I lost position 2 too much. Now I have a Twangbanger. Pretty happy with it. I actually dislike bringing multiple guitars to gigs. It’s too much work and too risky if there are thieves in the area. You can turn a Tele into a jazz guitar with the right neck pup. Checkout the Seymour Duncan everything Axe Set.
