Femme fatale of Endometriosis | Aditee Kissoon | TEDxUOttawaWomen

Aditee Kissoon explores the themes of the Monstrous Feminine and female pain through inspiration from her journey with endometriosis and Ovid’s interpretation of Medusa, the snake-haired Gorgon and sexualized symbol of women’s rage.
Journalist and 4th-year University of Ottawa Communications student with a specialization in Media Studies and a native of Mauritius, Aditee grew up in Windsor, ON and pursued her post-secondary education in the Capital. After fighting an ongoing nine-year battle with Endometriosis, Aditee is a vocal advocate for young women who endure the debilitating emotional and physical pain of this disorder. Through unconditional love, perseverance, and endless support from her mother & aunt since Day 1, she takes the stand to talk about her personal and arduous journey with endometriosis; her talk recognizes the women who brought her up, took matters in their own hands and shaped her future. With a passion for politics, cultural studies, and fashion; Aditee is currently exploring her career in communications and writing and dedicates her time volunteering and working for social causes on campus. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Dont quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion. A knight in shining armor is one that has never had thier metal truly tested. The world breaks everyone and afterward many are stronger in the broken places. Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat. Climb mountains not so the world can see you, but so you can see the world. A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor. Todays tall oak is yesturdays nut that held its ground. The worst days will end. The best days will end. Remember that.

Terribly sad that this has the amount of views/comments that it does. This disease needs to be KNOWN and talked about so much more than it is. It should not take this many years for a disease that causes SO much pain to be recognised. Even the women who should be diagnosed don't even know what it is.
