In normal families, men could not handle wife had a better grasp of family skills. Men were shocked to learn they only had to "go to work". In the 1990 Gulf War, let me tell you about all the REMF fun that did not deploy. Single hangout joints and shops struggled without taking advantage of the base volume. adultery was on another level altogether. Many I spoke to pretty much kept an overnight bag in their car from the chance they would not be in the barracks that night.

My last command has had multiple suicides in the last couple years. Back stabbing, cheating, and all around toxicity is the norm and nothing was ever done about it. I’ve tried to make things better myself but you can only do so much as a lower enlisted. The worst thing is that there are some genuine people that want the best for themselves and to serve their nation but they end up in a shithole command like this and start questioning what the point of it all is.

I have said there is a large difference between what the USMC teaches and what is learned. Always appearing as a "nobody", I was always ignored during "heavy conversations". My last command discovered a junior rank Marine living in the barracks and with nicer accommodations than the Bn senior ranks. Knowing everyone, nobody ever saw her pinch pennies to budget, etc. She was discovered to be a call girl to those affording her. A year after her BCD, she had become a twig of also having lost her medical support. The leased car was repossessed and she was sharing a crap trailer. Learning to ignore women is still the best decision I ever learned.

Never realized how much different sh*t was on the POG side until I retired and met non 03's through the VA. I never had to deal with all the drama of WM's, he said she said scuttlebutt and games like "the bet." I was in a PTSD group therapy session a while back and one former WM started to share. What she thought was a real relationship turned out to be a shitty lance coolie doing the dirty work of a jealous Gunny she had once rejected. Videos, photos and stories where shared around her section and she was driven almost to the point of suic*de from embarrassment and humiliations. I got to be good friends with her and she's doing much better now, but I see things differently now and it's a godd*mn shame this all really happens in our Corps. After a few days you could tell there was some weird stuff going on amongst the shop. I watched a few friendships implode that had a major ripple effect on almost an entire platoon. I used to wonder on the flight if the chute I was jumping was packed by a sound minded trooper after what I saw.
