I just want to let everyone who mentions Watership Down know that Felidae actually isn't a kids' movie, it was actually intended for mature audiences. That's why it's a bit more "hardcore" than Watership Down.

I think the thing that gets me most in this scene isn't the gore, it's the way all the movements are heavy and laggy. Not sure how to put this into words, but in every bad dream I've had, the scariest part has always been feeling unable to move, like my body wasn't listening to me and the connection from my brain to my limbs was lagging. Like they were too heavy, or the atmosphere was too thick, or the energy was just being sucked out of me. The animation in this scene took that heavy, _stuck_ feeling and gave it to every movement those cat corpses made. It was almost like the atmosphere was too thick for them to push through, like the whole world was lagging, dragging out the horror. This was brilliantly done.

I was a kid when I saw this movie. Of course I cried when I saw the dead cats, because I felt bad for them. When I go back and watch it now, I realize it's just an animation, but it also gets me thinking about how cruel our world can be to creatures like that.

I was 7. In my country it was called “the incredible adventures of the detective cat”) so my mom didn’t expect anything wrong buying the vhs for me. I was shocked, but despite I’ve always been a big animal lover and a sensitive person, it was one of my fav animated movie)

This scene is just as horrifying in the novel too, thanks to the descriptions, but arguably more-so in that the bodies of Bluebeard, Felicity, Sasha and Deep Purple are present.

This is probably one of my favorite scenes in this movie. It's so disturbing, nightmarish, creepy, and so beautifully animated. So much detail went into this and if the movie wasn't 300+ bucks (for me USD) I'd definitely buy this movie.

All scariness aside, you have to admit the animation is very smooth

I love the fact that Francis woke up like "Oh shit, was I sleeping again? What a wierd dream.", even though it should have been more like "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT THERE WERE MILLIONS OF DEAD CATS ON STRINGS AND A CREEPY PRIEST!"

Gotta respect the guy for just casually emerging from cat corpses.

My 8 year old brain took it like a champ. Then again I grew up in a world that used and abused disabled people, so I exposed to reality early on. Movies like this and Watership Down just reinforced what I already knew of life, as Cletus Kasady stated, "The only truths are pain and death."

I love how Francis wakes up like it was just your typical dream. If I was him, my reaction would be more in line with “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!? WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!? WHY WAS THERE SO MANY CORPSES!? WHO THE FUCK WAS THAT PERSON!? WHY WERE THEY CONTROLLING THOSE CORPSES LIKE PUPPETS!?”

disturbing for kids you say? this scene is very much horrific for 'adults' as well! i have watched gore in films but the very thing of animating a terrifying scene and maintaining its crudeness takes it to a whole level! the sheer quality of the animators! i felt weird after watching this- the sense of marveling at the animation accompanied by the uneasiness of the whole scene and the fact that i adore cats and already have 2 of them at home... *makes uneasy guttural sounds

When they say "CArtoons are only for kids" and then kids literally get traumatized..

jeez, i remember this... I was 4 when my parents mistook this for a kids movie.

Hoo boy, this scene...even watching this as an adult, it creeped me out like nothing else. I get that the story is supposed to be mature and dark and stuff, but what the fuck is up with this scene? It's one of the most surreal and terrifying pieces of animation ever created in my personal opinion. Yes. it's worse than the pink elephants, and yes, it's worse than Judge Doom. Just the fact that this scene happens in the middle of the movie with NO EXPLANATION whatsoever is enough to make it horrifying, but then you have blood and guts being spilled in an animated cartoon in plain view, WTF.

You know I think the vintage grainy style has something to do with its disturbing nature. This existed the same time popular 90s Disney-animated movies came out as well. Perhaps it’s the lower budget that gives it its style; it couldn’t afford hi-def animation or the best effects. So those too were hand-drawn and given style which fit in nicely with the grotesque scenery.

Well then, it's a good thing I'm 19 and I saw it at my current age.

This is the best part of the movie.

The animation and the motion of the man is right up my alley. But the cats are so horrifying to look at

and I thought watership down was terrifying what the actual heck is this

This scene looks like it was inspired by Master Of Puppets.

Ok... I'm scarred for life now.. 😱 What freaks me out is those dead cats that he uses like puppets. Or the one dead cat on his shoulder that he flicked the top of the head off... Or hearing those cats moaning and meowing. If you pause the video at 1:40 you can see a cats spine sticking out from its back ugh!

This is one of my favorite scenes in th movie ive seen adults saying they have thrown up from this scene im 13 and i was eating and loved it!

The animation in this reminds me of The Wall by Scarfe It's a trip and a half to watch.

Francis has a pretty calm reaction after that nightmare. My reaction would be: HOOLLLY SHITBALLS WHAT THE HELLHOLE JUST HAPPENED WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHO WHAT WHERE??????

Why is the animation so good?

That is just plain creepy 😕

It's like your in hell seeing all nothing but death, despair, and misery. And you see all the dead corpes of a poor souls of a huge waves, and can hear them crying, suffering, moaning of pain. And the scientist (like Satan) puppeteer all the corpses just to traumatized you for life, and someday you would end up like them.

As a cat person I do not approve of this

There are several nasty bits imo, but this one was the worst. There's only one other scene of actual violence, the rest is just aftermath
