Felder Hammer K3 dimensions, Walk around sliding table saw, can I fit a sliding table saw?

Walk around a Felder Hammer K3 sliding table saw as I measure the saw and give you the actual dimensions after setup and also the required doorway opening. I also show how the saw can fit into a small workshop.

Thank you for the excellent explanations and the measurements in metric! Besides the usefulness to anyone considering this specific model, this is an extremely good video for anybody trying to understand the general dimensions and constraints when considering a European format/sliding saw.

There are a few other good K3 videos floating around KZread but this is the best for how to fit it into your shop. I have a K700P on order (about the same size as this K3) and I’ve been worried about how to position this in my garage and this video is perfect for helping that!

Thanks so much for this video. I have two Hammer machines - the A331 planer thicknesser and the N4400 bandsaw and I went through the same process as you trying to determine if they would fit in my garage. The available plans were a bit limited on detail. The bandsaw in particular, was an issue (height) and fortunately a call to Felder ensured it was delivered on a pallet horizontally which saved the day. I’m currently deciding if I can fit a K3 in the garage and your video was perfect - thanks again. Martin

A great video on fitting a K3 in a small shop! One thing I've heard, maybe you can confirm for those thinking about squeezing a K3/B3/C3 into a small shop -- isn't it necessary to be able to move the slider all the way to the maximum rear extent in order to install/change saw blades?

  • @builtfixed6611

    @builtfixed6611

You are correct. You need to be able to fully extend the slider back (toward the operator side) to be able to fully access the blade.

Great information on Hammer products. I may have missed it in your video, but I was wondering which K3 Model do you own? I think since you mention the 'comfort' model that you have the 79x48. Personally, I was thinking about the K3 31x31, but I'm not sure if the outrigger table is an option for that particular unit. If Hammer requires the customer to upgrade to the 79x48 in order to have the outrigger as an option, they will likely have priced me out of their equipment. Then again, no matter how it's looked at, Hammer equipment is priced at premium price points. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Great video, thank you. My old barn converted to workshop measures 5.6x8.2m so I have plenty of room for the K3. Currently I am a semi-professional and have many Festool tools but only a Bosch table and Miter saw which I rarely use in my workshop because of dust. I'm looking at the Festool TKS80 and Kapex KS120 but the price for the two is about the same as the Felder K3. Obviously all tools are pricy but I do love a nice tool. Are you happy with the K3 and can it largely replace a miter saw? (I'd still keep the contractor miter and table saws)

If your workbench wasn't in the way, you could pivot the rip fence so that it under the top. My saw is about the same distance from the wall and that's what I do to get the rip fence out of the way.

Thanks for this tour. It can be hard to interpret the dimensioned drawings in the catalogs. Are you using any dust collection above the table? And what is the practical utility of the saw with the outrigger off? Is one of the small crosscut fences worthwhile, or is it basically a task of replacing the outrigger when you want to do the crosscut?

  • @builtfixed6611

I always use overhead dust extraction for thru cuts. The euro guard quickly pops off the riving knife by loosening a thumb screw.

With the outrigger off the saw it has the same functionality minus cross cutting. I leave the outrigger on all the time unless I have a need for that floor space. Hammer does sell a slider mounted small cross cut with miter guage similar to what might be used on a standard table saw but I have not tried it.

I'll look into that. A short solution I would recommend is to never trust a decal. Get their digital angle wheel as that is easily adjusted and very accurate compared to a decal.

@@89Blubbi I guess the webpage loads up the default setting.... I bought the 80mm diameter with 10 mm stud. There is no harm in having the studs extra long as there is plenty of room inside the k3 frame. I believe mine are 100mm long but get enough length to level for your floor uneveness plus any additional height if you want your saw higher than factory.

Hi Derek. I can say that the dado prep and scoring unit were upgrades that I have been very happy about. The dado cutter is not cheap but it is well made and works great. The price is listed on their online shop. I don't think that I should post the machine price on an open forum. Give me your email if you want to chat about that.

@@builtfixed6611 Thanks for the reply. On the uk website they do not list the price of their machines you have to request a quote. I have now spoken to 2 different people from the felder group, the first person said to email him with a list of the options I want and he will get back to me with a price, he also mentioned a lead time of 6 weeks. Email was send and I got an automated response saying he is out of the office this week. So phoned and spoke to someone else with a list of the options required and this chap would not give a quote but said the machine could be as much as £4500 with a lead time of 26 weeks. I just feel that when companies aren't transparent with there prices it leaves the end user vonrable to being over charged for a product. When ordering my A3 31 it was a much simpler process. One call and I was given the price of the machine and a list of prices for each upgrade. Order placed deposit paid and now just waiting till end of June for delivery.

You will need to have the sheet metal table and it's support brackets removed and the power supply removed. It would appear that the saw without the outrigger option and without the sheet metal table just fits thru 91.5cm with power supply attached. Removing the sheet metal table and power supply is easy. Don't mess with the outrigger arm.

You're going to hate my answer initially but hear me out. I think if you ask a dozen people you will get about as many different answers. The machines are built to order; the exact build and accessories make a difference. My delivery price was reasonable but I have truck delivery from the factory whereas a west coast USA customer will have ocean freight and trucking costs. If you want the very best price sign up with them to receive their sale flyers and wait for the machine you're after to go on sale. Their sale prices are substantial.
