FeiyuTech AK4500 Gimbal Review | The Most Underrated Gimbal (8 Reasons Why)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I share 8 reasons why I think the FeiyuTech AK4500 might be the most underrated gimbal. Compared to the Zhiyun Crane 2S and 3S, as well as the DJI RS2 and RSC2, this gimbal has some features that no other gimbal does.
It's smaller and weighs less compared to its maximum payload, integrates seamlessly into the FeiyuTech ring system, and features optional wireless follow focus and control modules to help speed up your workflow.
Is this the best gimbal you can buy? Not for everybody, but a lot of people overlook FeiyuTech in my opinion, so don't buy a gimbal without watching this first.

    I had to send mine back to them! The firmware was very buggy, the pan locking knob was in a terrible position, the app was very buggy and there was an odd shake to some of the motors even when balanced perfectly. Im guessing it was just a bad batch, but it was too much and I had to give it up! but going back to my Crane 2S I can't stress how much I miss the touch screen!

    I have been using this gimbal for more than an year and half now. I bought it within a month of its release and it was my first gimbal. I was confused between moza air 2, ronin s and ak4500. Ronin s was suggested to me by 80% of the people i asked and rest told me to get the moza, unfortunately no one knew feiyutech and based upon the features and tech specs ak4500 was the obvious choice. So i ended up waiting till somebody posted few test shots. Once i saw the videos i went ahead and got one. It wasnt perfect, the dead angle didnt work, it didnt recognise my camera and it had a bug that made the motors stiff to an extent that it almost felt like a monopod. Wrote to feiyutech, they listened and with successive firmware upgrades this gimbal has become absolutely wonderful. The follow is much more slow now, the fast follow is quicker, dead angle works without jerks and its super smooth. I balance it at 24mm and i shoot at 70mm without even bothering myself about shakes. The battery life on this thing is rock solid. I have full confidence that i can go on a full day shoot in a single charge. The rubber grip is an eyesore though, it slips out of the handle. I wish it could be fixed and the tripod base has gotten loose overtime, really loose, like free. Apart for these two minor annoyances this gimbal is perfect for me and the value for money it has provided me is too good. One of the guys i know bought a weebil s and right away i could tell the difference in build quality, the battery door was extremely filmsy. Anyway, i love this gimbal.

    Two things I can think of off the top of my head that might work. Under Knob Settings > Sensitivity I think you can lower the sensitivity. Or, you can assign the left-side Multi-Function Knob to the pan axis and get slower/more subtle control out of it. Hope that helps :)

  • @NewLayer

    The one thing I miss from the AK4500 is that you have less control over individual motor speeds and sensitivities. I haven't used the RSC2, but if it's like my Zhiyun Crane 2S, you should be able to set those more advanced features, which can be helpful to match the gimbal to your person shooting style. The AK4500 has gone down in price last I checked, so it also depends on how other gimbals are currently priced. I hope that helps.

    @goratnik3373 жыл бұрын

    I have checked the price of the standard kit and it's not that much more than what I would have expected to pay for a gimbal. I like the weight argument, also... does combination of easy tripod mounting and wireless controller mean that I could record superstable videos just by putting gimbal on tripod, turning and zooming camera remotely, even straight down to telling the camera to "focus follow" the performer and then for example taking photos at the time of recording, because camera will "itself" match any movement that could happen on stage?

  • @goratnik337

    @goratnik337

    Oh, I think I might have not understood something. Does "follow focus" mean that the gimbal will try to keep the object focused on in the center of the frame?

  • @NewLayer

    @NewLayer

    3 жыл бұрын

    Follow focus is a weird term. It just means that you can pull focus from the controller wirelessly (or have another person in charge of focus while you just work on framing). It doesn't mean that it automatically focuses or anything.

  • @NewLayer

    @NewLayer

    Yes, you could mount the gimbal itself on a tripod or light stand, and use the hyperlink controller to pan and tilt to move the camera around.

    @@NewLayer so bad the camera still can't do the work for us. I think I might be still getting ideas how to use it - when recording from within a crowd, use a 2m tall tripod to mount gimbal, hang the monitor underneath and control recording using the remote, as everything would be outside of the reach. Am I going in the good direction? Another question: can this "follow focus" mechanizm be used/"hacked" for manual zoom in lenses without zoom engine (as Power Zoom is very rare for Sony), or would that throw the setup out of balance?

  • @goratnik337

    @goratnik337

    I have googled for the second question and it seems that indeed manual focus can be done using this method! There were warnings that such a "mechanical" zoom might not be smooth and consistent, but these posts/articles were old. How would it work in reality?
