Feeling Unappreciated (but Know You’re Killin’ It?) Here’s What to Do about It
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Are you feeling unappreciated for the ah-mazing work you know you’re giving to the world? When you’re great at what you do, it’s deflating when nobody seems to notice.
BUT, you can’t become dependent on praise, either...
If you’re feeling unappreciated and under-praised in work, life, or relationships, here are three truths that’ll help you harness a more helpful mindset and get the praises flowing:
1. The big cheese often gets little praise.
2. Be a praise fairy.
3. Start a praise posse.
If you feel like you haven’t been getting the props you deserve, this episode is for you.

Dear Marie, Thank you so much for answering my Q! What you said makes a ton of sense and has really helped me shift my perspective. The 'praise fairy' and 'praise posse' techniques sound fabulous, and I can't wait to test them out! I especially love the last bit in which you mention how you should not depend on external praise or validation, but rather focus on just being your own best. That really struck a chord with me- thank you for that lovely piece of advice, Marie! I'd also like to apologize- I sent you the Q in the heat of the moment and missed out on expressing just how grateful I am for all your help! In the other emails I've sent, I took the time to express everything, but this particular Q was written in a rush. Your work is incredible, and you've truly been an inspiration for me and millions across the world! I excitedly look forward to your weekly Q&A videos and updates; the passion with which you work is contagious and something I truly admire and hope to inculcate one day. Your videos and updates make my day! :) A huge thanks to you and your team again for all the pearls of wisdom. I don't know what I'd do without you! Until next time. Lots of love, Nishchala P.S. Haha! I was actually jumping up and down when I found out that you answered my Q- super excited! :) :) :)

Yeah, it's a real problem. I don't even feel like I need direct praise, but sometimes I help do something big like paint the office or get a website up...and co-workers just nitpick it and dismiss it like it's nothing or even subpar. I really don't need them to tell me that I've done a good job with a pat on the back, but they just don't seem to care about massive and meaningful changes that are being made to the business. I try to fight the sadness, but it's a real downer.
I do really appreciate all the knowledge you share, Marie, and you are sure, I don't often comment your videos, even though I watch all of them, because I thought you didn't take any care of it, but, just in case, I want to thank you for all your great and kind lessons because you are great... and you always look awesome!.
Thank you Marie! This episode came right on time for me :) Grateful that I found you and the wonderful resources you provide - I appreciate your positivity, energy, deep insight and ability to communicate it with so many of us in an inspiring and loving way :) You rock! :)
You're 100% right. It's so natural to see someone who is doing really well and think, "nah, they don't need to hear how well they're doing, their success is payment enough." But everyone needs it! It's hard to see how well you're doing when you're in a successful position because it's so easy to get caught up in what you're doing and not think about how well you're doing it. Everyone needs appreciation. Great topic :)
Marie you are a great person. The world needs more people like you. Your advices always motivates me. I am your fan, greetings from Mexico City
What an inspiration! Marie Forleo - your content is always worthwhile! Self-appreciation is definitely something we should ALL be doing more of! Thank you.
OMG! i love this video so much.I have been a very silent admirer of yours. And you nailed it...i thought you dont need my appreciation...You have so many others...But i simply love you. Sending you lots of love and light from India. Expecting to meet you some day somewhere...
I really appreciate you for sharing such valuable information. I love your advice. Very inspiring. I also appreciate my best friend, Sabrina Young for always being there for me and being my biggest cheerleader!
Great video as always Marie! I think this is great advice and I'm so glad I watched. At the end when you said that being too dependent on other peoples validation can be a problem and that you should practice internal validation- how do I do that? I care WAY too much about what other people think- is there another video on this?
Loved your thoughts on this topic, and just another example of your brilliance when you noted the opening of her email. That was an "aha" moment for sure! Can't wait to start spreading appreciation dust. :)
this does help me now and i do appreciate you for that, thank you ✨
Love, Love, & Love your channel. Keep up the great work.
Oh my God. Just today, I was talking to a friend of mine about exactly the same thing. And without having seen your video we decided to start a 21-day-bragging challenge from tomorrow. The universe was definitely in tune with us today.
I really needed this today, thank you so much, you're amazing, as always!!! xo

Such a well of depth and wisdom and love and service you are :)
Okay so this is the first time I am seeing your vid, but I must say this is the kind of content I’ve been waiting for! Awesome job. You are so helpful and resourceful. Subscribing :)
Don't look for appreciation. Be the appreciator. It's a much higher calling. :)
I was also feeling so much under appreciated at work although it is part time and my employers always gives credit to someone who doesnt deserve it. This made my day.
Can we talk about your jumpsuit? Pretty much in love with every item of clothing you wear on this show!!! Love you!
"Be the gift that you want to receive" this sentence resonated with me the most. The bragging part is a nice habit to adapt but not being too dependent on external acknowledgment is very important. After watching this video, I decided to become a praise machine for myself and others but the praise must be HONEST & SINCERE :) Thanks, Marie :)
I just love the way you communicate your messages!

I was feeling unappreciated some as I exited a meeting where workflow changed and my responsibilities stayed the same. I'm glad I watched this video bc you're right. Mine didn't change bc I'm good at what I do and maybe they need me to keep doing it to keep balance.

I super praise and appreciate the one I love all the time and She hardly does the same. But she will always tell me about others she appreciates so much and she has been sick and I've been by her side as much as I can and barely get any energy from her. I'm starting to wonder if I'm even loved. I see her love and praise everyone else.

4:00 I do this regularly and the previous of praising others. I don't know if these tips actually work. I do know at my job people love and praise and appreciate me all the time it's just my personal life where it seems to be missing. I deserve both. I wish I had someone like me in my lifeMatter fact the one I love reminds me of myself very much but i am not closed off person.
I recently found your site and the amazing work you do. You're beautiful, creative and generous. Looking forward to participate in your B-School sometime in the future. Thank you!

I appreciate for more than three people. I don't want to pick three out of that number
I’m late but today one of my more popular friend was very pokerfaced and unmotivated today three of my other friends quickly came up to her and comforted her but I walk away almost cry and eat lunch alone on the same day not one of those three friends came to me. I’m just worthless...
So true
I rarely praise my boss because I worry that she’ll think I’m just kissing up. (Hopefully this is helpful for anyone in the same situation.)
You say you don't want to give praise to get it back but then be the gift that you want to receive. Isn't the idea of wanting it back still in there? How do we get rid of that need?
I feel so very unappreciated for how people used to like me they don’t accept for who I am #2 is part of it I try to be sweet #3 people are against me some maybe jealous of me even when i try to succeed in painting people are putting me back I used to be so talented and I am feeling unappreciated with my group that used to like me so much I feel like they don’t care as much lack of communication is going on

It's not that the big cheese gets little praise. It said the big cheese gets constantly attacked. Because everyone wants to be the big cheese. So they're trying to take down the big cheese.

Incredible video, Marie Forleo ! I recently wrote a blog post about the need to be your own champion (katelauren.ca/life-lesson-champion/) but this video took it a step further in sharing additional tips for how to pump yourself up. You are appreciated! :)
