Feeding My New FIRE ANT COLONY Their First Meal | Never Before Seen Footage

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

My new fire ant queen, named the Crimson Queen, finally welcomed her first generation of fire ant workers, known as the nanitics. The nanitics are tasked with the critical responsibility of finding the colony's first real meal. In this episode, I feed the ant colony a drop of honey, and the colony's reaction to the feeding was truly spectacular. Hope you enjoy this week's fire ant episode! Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

I think your coolest setup was with this River streaming into a little pond. It would be awesome to have something similar, but bigger and better. I imagine a huge tank, with a sort of mountain on one side, and a little stream running down into a pond at the botto, but running through the middle of the tank, with bridges of wood connecting both sides.

This video just shows how insanely evulution engineered these ants to be supper efficient. And the fact that they first feed themselves then the babies and then the queen is so fascinating because it's probably the safest order to feed in. The Nanitics first because they need the energy in order to find more food, then the babies because they also need to become mature to find more food and at last the queen because she still could survive a while without food. Its just so interesting to see how they work and what an insane engineer evolution actually is!

You know, I love animals. I've been fascinated by them my entire life, even the ones that scared me - but ants always seemed so... small. So little and scrambling helplessly around, somehow surviving in a dangerous world. It's your videos that helped me to see them as actual living creatures with feelings, to some extent, and to appreciate how hard they work together to stay alive. I spent half an hour yesterday watching an ant find my crumbs left over from lunch as it brought them back to the colony, one by one. I left it a chunk of bread as a gift and watched it discover the bread, start jittering around in excitement and run all the way back home. Its colony mates came across its path and seemed to detect something that made them follow it back to the bread chunk (a pheromone trail!) and slowly the numbers increased as I watched. I didn't get to see them finish the bread off, but I could see their personalities showing through, and I know it's because I learned that appreciation from your videos. So, thank you. I'm glad to have more avenues to appreciate creation and our universe as the incredible, beautiful thing that it is

When I was a kid I loved making terrariums out of all kinds of jars and bottles. Usually the only animals were the bioactives that came along with the soil & plants I'd dug up from the yard and garden... or the empty lot behind the house. My favorite thing was to see an isopod (aka rolly polly) walking around what might look like an ancient Jurassic forest in my jar. Occasionally an ant or two would be there too. I was young and didn't really understand at first that they might be distressed by being away from their colony. I'm a real biologist now and even teach it at times. But many of my first lessons began with those pickle jars of soil, plants, and small insects.

Aww this is so sweet and wholesome. Even a queen must practice restraint since she knows everything is at stake and waits till it’s her turn for a meal. It goes to show every ant caste is important and without the other they could not survive. Now with that said, I’m kinda worried about the termites, haven’t heard from them in a while. I hope they’re doing well.

Once you end up moving them into a HUGE setup down the road.. I would love it if you added a praying mantis, or a few, again into the setup since we already know they will have a huge baby boom once housed inside a huge tank. 😉 As for moving them out of the starting test tube, one of those nice glass-top pieces from AntsCanada store would be nice so we could watch them moving around in it when not going out to the out world(s) for food. 🥰
