Feeding a Sand Sifting Starfish

Because I have a younger/cleaner 2-3-month-old sand bed, every day or two I give a supplemental feeding to the sand sifting starfish with Hikari seaweed extreme, 2 or 3 pellets (I understand they are omnivores, and it would also get some of the other leftovers in the tank).
I would prefer to use a long reach tool instead of my hand but haven't got one yet.
Also, I realise the sand isn't deep enough for the starfish in this video, it is about twice the depth on the other side of the tank.
Filmed using a Canon 6D mark ii, with a 50mm 1.4f lens. Minor color correction using Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve software

Hi! Nice video, I have a sand sifter too, I tried pellets and algae wafers but I don't see the starfish getting close to it... do you recommend trying the seaweed extreme? Thank you

I'd guess it depends on the specific breed of starfish but mine is happy with the seaweed extreme but also takes other things (such as my coral kreations food, which is basically ground up fish and crustaceans). I feed it less often now as the tank is more established (and so sometimes it seems less interested). The store that sold you it should be the best to advise.

I'm not an expert on this but from what I gather it depends on the type of starfish that you get, so yes some of them can stay basically that small, such as www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+2857+572&pcatid=572

I don't clearly remember, but yes, I think it did eat soon after arrival. But I wouldn't worry too much, it probably needs time to adjust, and they don't have to be fed every day; they will scavenge. I hope it goes well =)

I rotate every few days between Ocean Nutrition Formula 1 Marine Pellet S and Hikari Seaweed Extreme Small Wafer and frozen mysis shrimp. This is just what my local fish stores sell and it seems to have been going fine for a bit over a year now.

David Graieg Awesome. If I feed the tank directly with frozen food, will that be successful or must I target feed? I have snails and fish also.

@@mattjones3634 where possible it's better not to put your hand in the tank (partly cause of possible contamination) so a long turkey blaster or long arm claw is better. Also, you have to target feed it directly because the star fish is slow and so others things in the tank will eat the food first (and you don't want to over feed the tank having too much around for it to slowly find it) (also you have to temporarily turn the flow pumps off when feeding it, else the food blows away too fast for it).
