Typically how many bales does he grind on a visit and how many times a year does he grind for you?

grinds a bale a min on average..... minimum of 60 min we generally grind one or two hours... depening on if its windy.... or wet and grinding hard couple times a month id say we grind

Thats a nice tmr setup you got, what brand tmr is that?

Does grinding the bale wrap have any effect on the cattle internally?

Depends who you ask.... so far we havent seen any ill effects from net wrap that has been ground. Have seen issues where a person misses taking if all off and it ends up in a big ball in the pen with cattle chewing on it

tub grinders shred the wrap to a pulp. Might find some pieces here and there but small enough to easily pass through. Been using netwrap for 14 years, did lose 1 cow to it, and 2 others were questionable if that was the cause or not, autopsy didn't really pinpoint it.

Didn't take long for a bale to get grinded up, how many bales did he grind?

Ted I'm wondering about the billing structure and price. Is this done by the bale or by the hour and what do they charge? Hopefully I'm not asking something to personal here. Just a cattleman with a curiosity.

Generally by the hour, 350ish per hour.

Yep some have a scale on the boom but most just charge by the hour can grind roughly a bale a min

You aren't taking the wrap off the bales??

nope... grinds up fine enough it does not have any ill effects

@@tedkahler9738 Is it plastic? I've read and heard things about plastic in bottled water, from manufacturing, and the danger of that for people. That's way I asked. I would think it bad for animals, but... what do I know...

Well most cattle that are breeding stock only live maybe 10 years.. comparing that to a person that lives 65-85. Also cattle grown for beef only live for about 18 months so the effect of plastics if any have little time to effect animals that live such a short life. Cattle can also live off of grass... and people can not... so there are huge differences between a cow and a human....

@@tedkahler9738 Couple of interesting points you made there Ted about the life expectancy of both the breeding stock and fat cattle. When do you hope to calve heifers 24 months or older? I'm quite surprised that you only expect a 10 yr life from a cow whereas we would expect much more like 15 - 18 calvings. Is this perhaps because you have such prolonged hard weather conditions for them or because you struggle to get heifers back in calf? What sort of slaughter weight are you aiming for your cattle? 18 months seems real quick to me when they are on their mothers for several months at grazing so you must be feeding pretty hard to get them to slaughter weights that quick. Do you seperate and feed heifers differently to bulls / steers?

@@tedkahler9738 Do you ever plan on doing teff agian? I have been growing over a hundred acres a year the past few years. It can really ton out and test high protein to. I'm a seed dealer for alforex and it teff seems to be really gaining ground.

Im not 100 percent sure i will do it again or not..... i was happy with the product. BUT i can bale cain (sudan) or a cross and get alot more tons....

@@tedkahler9738 I have never got a crop of Sudan or sorghum worth a darn. Teff will do 3 to 4 dry tons an acre pretty consistently for me.
