    Your feather art is perfection. I'm always on the hunt for feathers whenever I'm out walking, they are a piece of art on their own. I have a box full of all sorts of them, including Blue Jay feathers. Love how you knew exactly when to stop, simplicity is key with this type of art and you nailed it. Thanks for celebrating nature so well, Ivy!

    I am so, so glad your older videos are still here! I had never seen encaustic work before. Wow! The medium gives the work a softness, a depth. Mind blown. Thank you! 🪶

    I was so, so happy to see you had posted again. I love watching these while I work out. You motivate me to try new things (and be patient), and it makes gym time fly. Thank you for the lesson and the general creative inspiration. PS - So glad you said something about the frogs. I thought I was losing it when I kept hearing them in the background. 😊

    I loved this video especially the choir of frogs in the background. I recently attended an art exhibit in my hometown and the artist embedded seed heads, reeds, leaves and other intriguing dried plants into the encaustic wax and I have been fascinated with it ever since. The blurred softness of it is so luxurious and appealing to me. I loved your use of the vintage papers. Thank you for this

    Have you tried cutting the quill end in half? Sort of shaving it down so the side that is face down can lie flatter to the board. Just a thought for those stubborn feather ends. Love the look of this piece!

    Ivy!!! This is so cool!! I collect bird feathers from all of my treks into nature. Have framed them. But never thought about wax. So funny, my little dog was sleeping on my lap while I'm watching you. She heard the frogs and perked up 1 ear with a look of ...what was that?..lol. then jumped down and ran outside...it was just then, you mentioned your garden frog sounds. Nature...So beautiful.

    This seems fast compared to using straight oil and oil/cold wax. This is why I'm in the process of swtiching from cold wax/oil to encaustic. It has some of the same effects and more as well as drying very quickly comparitvely.

    Your tutorial is wonderful, what a beautiful piece of art, perserving nature too. I have worked with encaustics a little in the past and your video has got me finding my old waxes and tools. One question I've always had is, what is the longevity of wax pieces? Do they melt in a warm environment? I particlarly love this beautiful process and result :)

  • @IvyNewport

    @IvyNewport

    Thank you so much! Wax pieces last forever as long as you keep them out of very hot environments (like in a hot car or in direct sunlight) Hanging on your wall they will last a very very long time. They have found in tact Egyptian encaustic art pieces!! Its truly an ancient art!

  • @natalierozean5989

    @natalierozean5989

    I have always heard they last forever ...PROVIDED you keep them out of extreme heat. Even then I figured as long as you didn’t display your work in a pizza oven and accidentally hit preheat, it would be fine. However, I was at a university art exhibit where the gallery assistant hung an encaustic piece facing the large art gallery windows. Slowly, but surely, the encaustic piece began to heat up throughout the day. The setting sun proved too much shining through the window directly onto her display. I’m not sure if the artist fused it properly, but it did affect the piece. The wax wasn’t dripping off of it, but pieces were popping up and off. So I’m not 100% sure the amount of heat it can tolerate.

  • @IvyNewport

    @IvyNewport

    3 жыл бұрын

    There is some upfront cost in getting set up and I won't say it's the most affordable medium but if you make your own encaustic medium and things like that it can cut your costs. There are lots of videos on KZread that show you how to do this. I started with very little supplies...working in my kitchen near the stove exhaust fan lol....just to see if I enjoyed the process.
