I discovered your videos this evening, and I have spent a most enjoyable time watching you create. 😊This particular piece resonated so much with me ~ "His words gave her wings", how precious ❤️I have never seen anyone incise into wax before, and then add oil sticks. This is a wonderful technique! The use of gold is the perfect way to finish any project; absolutely enchanting. I shall look forward to more of your inspirational tutorials!Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talents. All best wishes, Sue x❤️x

Just found this video. Learned several new tips; thanks! Never thought of using my sculpture loop tool to remove excess wax from the sides; I usually put it on the griddle then wipe it off. I love the look of the inked edges of the text. And esp. love your use of script stamps in the wax/glazed with the oil stick. I never thought of doing that. Now I want to buy some stamps! Happy to have found your videos; looking forward to watching more of them.

I saw and liked a similar technique in a Kelly Rae Robert’s book, but have not working with wax so far so it has been really useful seeing in action. I look forward to watching more of your video. Lovely piece :) Just in case you don't know, another thing you can do to get the wax off the edges is to touch all four edges to your griddle for a second or two. Takes a little practice, and do it on a fully cooled piece.

The encaustic medium can be heated in a pan that I also use to melt glue pellets? Or I need to buy special? Also, I have a heat gun for shrink bag use but is that also something I can use for this artwork or buy a special gun? TY. Your work is beautiful. Inspiring. Rachel

  • @PABragg

Oops, I forgot to respond to this. You might want to test the pan out a little bit first. I've tried various ones, trying to save money. You can check out the local dollar store or even a thrift store for aluminum pans, too. Try out your heat gun, it should work, though. Like you, I didn't want to buy a special one so I started out by using the same heat tool I had for other stuff. In time, I got one from a hardware store.

I love your work and so enjoy watching your process! Could I take a moment of your time to ask a question? When using natural elements to embed, such as flowers, leaves, etc, do you need to dry them first or can they be embedded in their natural state? I didn’t know if the wax would help preserve it or if it would possibly mold like it does in some other mediums. Thank you so much in advance for your time!

  • @PABragg

Great question, Wendy! I always dry my flowers, etc. I haven't actually tried embedding them in their natural state. I guess I just assumed they would get moldy, etc. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch. learn. and comment!

Well, you can certainly do that as I have done in this video...and most of my work tends to include a lot of that. But there are many encaustics artists doing all kinds of new things with this medium. It's pretty remarkable. I am still learning.
