Favorite Trick for Artist’s Block

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

cutt.ly/1wrNKZd Julie Cameron's The Artist's Way was such a pivotal book for me when it came out over 25 years ago. If you have ever had an artist's block or struggle with making your art making a priority, I highly recommend it. It's complete course in a book for painters, sculptors, writers, actors ANYONE who wants to be more creative.
Her exercise "the Artist's Date is a really fun and playful idea that I had forgotten completely about until the other day in my studio. As I recall in her book it didn't even have to do with being in your art studio. But it was about setting aside time to take that inner child on a creative play date. It's about letting go of expectations goals and seriousness and doing something just for fun to help nurture your creative spirit. Something that you might consider frivolous or unimportant.
Allowing ourselves time to play is truly essential to activating creativity. Creativity is nonlinear and often seems illogical. If you are disciplined about your creative time and feeling like you've been a little bit too serious I highly recommend this exercise. If you've been suffering from artist block and have completely Lost your inspiration or will to create I would consider doing the entire course.
I would really love to hear about your own experiences with artist block, with the book "The Artist's Way", with your own artist dates, or any other practices or activities you do to get your creative juices flowing. Please share in the comments below.

One thing I've enjoyed as an artist's date is visiting with other artists. I also enjoy reading autobiograpghies of artists and trying new forms of art.

Love this book. I, too, read it in the 90's and followed every step to the end. It helped me "become" the artist that I was. The Morning Pages tied in with a Journal I was already keeping, and still keep to this day. What a wonderful gift from Julia Cameron! For my artist dates, I like to take myself out to breakfast or lunch and then go on a hike or to the botanical garden. Nature plays a key role in my work so being in gardens, among plants, among wildlife, is vital.

A couple of friends and I had our second 'art date' last Sunday. We are very fortunate that we live close to some excellent galleries and sculpture parks . We will be back to it in the new year. Also, have you heard of 'time blocking'? It's very simple. When we are busy filling up our calendars with this and that; just assign blocks of time on any kind of calendar and maintain these precious blocks as 'Art time @ art dates' . So another way of looking at it is -some of those time blocks between essential events and schedules: might be art time! I am no expert but hey time blocking is making my artwork show up more often, and that is a wonderful thing! Thank you, Michele, keep the faith 🌈🖌🗓🙏

I have read her book. My artist dates generally include doodling , and definitely buying an art supply or something I need to create. Walk in nature and collect interesting things I find in nature. I love drumming although I do not have my own yet. We have drumming circles here weekly. Christine Stevens is a great teacher.

I've just begun my second round of twelve weeks program from this book. My last artist day was trying to program a tiny microprocessor. It seems strange but I really enjoy doing it, but nowadays I don't have time for this. Maybe I could do some kind of mixing between microprocessors and sculptures (3D) or paintings (2D)

I guess the closest thing to that is my "Seven Essential Practices for the Professional Artist" link to buy hard copy or download free is in the description box. Also, I used to teach a 6 month practicum call the Mindful Artist Mentorship Program that was A LOT of content there. It may come out in a book format at some point. Thank you so much for your suggestion and interest!🙏🤩
