This is my favorite training hike in the central San Gabriel Valley. Its located in the foothills of Duarte. I’m not going to tell you that this is the most scenic trail as its mostly a fire road flanked by chapparal engulfed in a web of buzzing power lines, but it does have its charm.
During the spring, wild flowers flourish here.
What I especially like about this hike is its proximity to the city when I need a quick training effort as well as its steep, easy to navigate path and tremendous views as it overlooks all of the San Gabriel Valley.
Canelo and I were able to reach the top of Mount Bliss which includes a 3,000 foot ascent in just over 8 miles round trip.
Unfortunately I was unable to capture any of the sweet city views during this effort due to the low clouds.
My favorite part about this hike is that you can make it all the way to Monrovia Peak for a 19 mile 5,500 foot day and there is even flowing water well into spring.
