Rubel Castle: Exploring Glendora’s Private Castle with Oddity Odysseys

Ойын-сауық

Rubel Castle is a unique and historic building in Glendora that was built by Michael Rubel inside of a water reservoir. The castle was built over 20 years and eventually completed in 1986. The structure is a legit castle, with a drawbridge, 4 story exterior wall and even a dragon that guards the entrance. I got a chance to take a tour a few weeks ago with my friends from Oddity Odysseys and really enjoyed learning about this historic structure from Scott Rubel, who worked with Michael to create it. Let me know what you think in the comments!

My Father(Paul Foti) and Michael both drove bus for The Glendora School District, back in the 60’s and 70’s. They were good friends. Over the years, I helped Mike with construction projects on the property, here and there, and the farm became a regular hang for myself and many of my friends. Mike was a great guy, very much a ‘one of a kind’, unique individual. He is sorely missed…

Thanks for bringing back some great memories! Back in the late 70's, when I was in high school, my photography teacher lived in one of the (very rustic and funky) apartments there. I remember helping him move in and getting a tour from Michael Rubel. I haven't been there since the 70's, so it was wonderful to have positive memories of my teenage years brought back so vividly!

Great video and it was fun to see Drew and Bethany from Oddity Odysseys. They're channel is awesome. However, in watching both video Josh on your camera equipment, drone and overall videography style is next level art.

What a trip that’s just above the junior high school I used to go to Goddard junior high My parents moved to that city in 1972 and we lived there for 35 years I don’t believe that place is ever open for the public for viewing at least I’ve never been inside Too bad I didn’t know you would be in the area would like to meet you in person

I am a native So. California and remember hearing about this when I lived in the area. Not having visited Rubel Castle when I was in the state, it's wonderful to see your tour visit here on YT. I would say that Michael was a bit eccentric and yet ahead of his time for using recycled materials in building of the imaginative castle.

Just found out about this place this year, and I'm only 20 minutes away. It's such an inspiring dreamy story, really makes you wish you had met Michael. The tour was great, I loved it! Definitely a must see for dreamers, thank you for sharing with your viewers. Great little hidden gem in the San Gabriel Valley.

That's a private deck at 6:33 with light plastic chairs on it. We just rope things up from the bottom. You get to this deck through the spiral stairs that are inside the round tower to the left of that.

Another video of the castle? You mention Oddity Odysseys through out the video than you mentioned Huell Howser at the end? Rubel Castle should go back to it's original statement - No video taking, only pictures. All this exploring stuff is becoming redundant, nothing new.
