Thanks for sharing, I had the uno set and for Black Friday I bought the duo upgrade, I was an spd fan until I tried the look style now I’m hooked on those, much better in my opinion

I got my Duo's last week... here's what I found with the Assioma's accuracy. I've had Powertap P2, Stages power meters and they matched up pretty closely with my Tacx Neo 2T data. Under 200 watts the Assioma's match up pretty closely to the Tacx Neo however over 200 watts they are about 3-5 watts higher... which is interesting (Data is based on 3s average). I'm still a big fan since these pedals are relatively accurate and all the parts can be easily replaced by the user including bearings and pedal body. Great price and accurate... did i mention they are light weight too!! lot's of wins.

great video! I think the next step will be the companies will find a way to just make the meter portion connectable to any pedal, they will just include the axle for a conversion...and bam, you have a power meter on your existing pedals. That might open the door to them not working correctly if they are installed incorrectly, but this is definitely a step in the right direction, EXCITING!

Love your review. Agree with the too many custom cable issue. However, the magnetic design allows Assioma to not have any open holes in their electronics. Also makes it nice if you trip over them and pull it out without breaking anything. Reminds me of the wonderful MacBook power cables of old.

Thanks mate! Yeah I've come to terms with the cables. One of the great modern conveniences is charging them with a power bank so I don't have to put the bike over a power socket!

Nice review, and agree with pretty much everything, and am happy with my Assioma’s. My tip for charging is use a split micro USB cable and a battery pack, a lot easier than using the crazy long cables with a wall wart.

How is the feel with Look KEO pedals? I've heard some say that they can fall out on sprints or hills? Are they very slightly looser than the xpedos or are they pretty good? Thanks, awesome review!

Having a normal pedal body with no electronics in it is so good. I'm half way down to the battery in my P1 from pedal strikes

Holy crap! How did that design make it thorugh?!

And unlike the more expensive unreliable and heavier crap from Garmin, they actually work trouble free and without the hassle of crack-based or spider-based power meters.

Thanks for the review and nice channel! just subscribed. At 5:49 - the power chart, with instantaneous/avg/max values surrounded by the cycling dynamics looks pretty good. May I ask if it's a built-in feature or a Connect IQ data field?

Hey mate, glad you like my vids! That cool screen is the "Cycling Dynamics" screen that you can get in the 530 and 830. It's awesome if you have a dual sided power meter.

You know the cables are just your normal micro usb with an adapter on the end that you can remove? So it’s the adapter your not keen on? It’s kind of cool I think being magnetic and clips into place perfect every time.. I went from Shimano to these and couldn’t tell the difference in cleats, the same feel and technique clipping in and out.. great review 👍

Rick - Which Shimano pedals are you referring to? Shimano makes Look type cleats as well as the traditional SPD cleat. Thanks.

Hey mate! Well it depends on what you need power for. It's a totally fine single sided unit if you want to do basic power training. The dual sided stuff is rad if you want to work on your pedalling technique or really crunch the sweet data. You just gotta decide what you really need and how much you'd want to spend

They are a great pedal. Have been using them for 7 months without issues. I also don’t see a big difference between shimano cleats and these. I have one bike with shimano and the other with assiamo. Love them. Get over the Look pedal issue. I actually like the charging cables, they are long and magnetic atttachment is awesome.

if i understand you, assioma clip of the pedal is better than pure look pedal? I actually use shimano ultegra pedals and love theme but i want a power meter. I know that assioma actually did a shimano version but the Q-factor change is very scary for me. So i hope that the "classic" assioma are very good (in the feeling of clips and pedaling)

Spindles can also be bolted into SPD pedals!

I gave up on my Garmin vector3 after so much trouble using it.... Battery issues, drop out issues... U know what it feels like stopping and cycling and then stopping and checking. Really unreliable. I have since sold mt vector3 off.... Now i am thinking of getting the Assioma but only UNO, 1 side version.

Where to buy in the US or NY to be exact

Have the NG Eco and love it but I’m torn between the assioma duo’s or getting another NG eco for my other bike…. Third world problems 💋

Hm, disagree about unlock tension - it does not have a good range of tension. Actually, for me, the "softest" setting was still too hard to unclip. Decided to remove one of two springs and reduced off the shelf tension. But perhaps you're reviewing a revised version where Assioma decided to use softer springs. My biggest issue with Assiomas is (similarly to other pedal PMs) is they are very much exposed to physical damage in case of crash. Looking at shape of the body after one mild crash, I'm almost confident that it will not survive my next crash... Lucky, for 100 Eur (😆) you can order replacement body. Thank you and best regards!

Thanks a lot mate that's very nice of you to say! It's all just hard work and continuously trying to improve. My old videos are GARBAGE because you gotta start somewhere!

I bought the pedals last week and after a first comparison with my Neo 2 and Power2max Type S I'm quite disappointed. The pedals measure over 10% higher than the Neo and about 8% higher than Power2max at around 150 W. At higher values the Assiomas get a bit closer to the two other power meters and at 1000 W they are within the expected 2-3% tolerance. For me not really sufficient. I think they will go back.

Hi, at 5:50 you have a datafield on your Garmin that shows are power graph, what is that data field Called/named ?

Great video, and idea if I can throws these onto a Pel0ton bike and the rock the swift app?

hi, isn´t supposed the look cleats( mine are the grey ones) fit in the faveros pedals? somehow mine aren´t fitting and i had to change the cleats to the ones that favero supplies and has you said they are so sllipery.

My only issue with these pedals (have uno) is, they seem to spin a lot when clipping in and out. I often have to look at my pedal to clip back in.

Oh totally! I forgot to mention that. The platform is evenly weighted and the bearings are super smooth so they spin allllllll the time.

You know, I've ridden several pedal types over the years and once on the bike and ridden for a few miles all the pedal seem to disappear from my mind and do their job...The charge cable kicks ass...and the design makes sense given how the powermeter are made...🤷🏽‍♂️

I’m reluctant to buy these because they are not Shimano compatible. I used to use Look Keo cleats but switched to Shimano and I will never go back.

Yup, it does all the standard data you'd expect from a power meter.

Do they only work with Garmin computers?

Hey Chad, no they'll work with all power enabled GPS units. Newer model Garmin Edge units are the ones with the Cycling Dynamics displays. You can still get standard power data on all units, but only some units can display things like Power Phase and Seated Vs Standing Cycling Dynamics metrics.

Is it possible to change the pedal of the Favero to a Shimana dura ace pedal to keep your own pedal?

The cleats are expedo not look. They are the same as the powertap cleats. Look cleats will not clip in to the pedals properly as they are slightly larger.

Favero themselves say that the pedals should (only) be used with Expedo or Look Keo cleats, claiming the compatibility there. I use Look cleats only, because of that "memory" feature so I can swap worn out cleats in a hurry, knowing the new ones will snap into the exact same correct place immediately. There are absolutely no issues with clipping in (or out for that matter), or staying clipped in. They're compatible, or should I say interchangeable...?

I love these, but I use them with a wahoo head unit which is such a treat to use compared to garmin. But doesn’t have many of the cool dynamic features. 😕

Surely if you had the choice of spider based or pedal you'd go with spider?

As time goes by I'm preferring the pedals. I know I can fit them to any road bike I want. Spider based systems are much more limited. If the pedals are giving good accuracy I'd take them over a spider system because of the sheer convenience and future proofing of them.

I've swapped from spider-based to Assiomas, never looked back. Pedal based ones can provide lots of (geeky?) data that spider- or other based meters can't produce, and another important bit is the ability to bring them with me with ease when going abroad to ride on rental bikes.

I'm pretty sure they sell a Shimano SPD SL axel

Hi. I use mine with Ant+ on Zwift with a TacX Neo. The problem is there is some latency. The pedals are accurate but I'm at a disadvantage of covering aggressive attacks Zwift racing due to the lag. I've turned my Neo power meter back on. Should I connect by Bluetooth instead of Ant+? Thanks.

Hey Adam, it could be worth a try switching to BLTE. I used these with Ant+ on a trainer recently and they seemed quick to transmit power. There's quite a lot of factors involved with smart trainers and Zwift so it could take some experimentation.

I guess you can not use shimano style as it is protected by patents and shimano wouöd not allow?

Yeah that does seem to be the case. It's the reason there's no Shimano power pedals and they all use Look, or properietary cleats.

Can Assioma DUO be used by two different cyclists? meaning can they both be used as uno?

I'm fairly sure they can. There's a setting in the app where you choose whether to broadcast one side as the only meter - meaning it'll double the readout to represent two legs - or as a dual power meter.

Probably about 50cm. I find the easiest way to charge them is with a power bank so I don't have to put the bike next to a power socket.

Look better than garmin vectors

Shimano does not license their pedal cleat design. So it is impossible for a third party to produce a pedal with Shimano cleat compatibility. This is a well known fact. Yes it's annoying, but not Favero's fault! (same case with Garmin Vectors, etc. etc)

That's true, but do you remember the Vector gen 2s came with a cartridge kit that make them compatible with Shimano 6800 pedal bodies? Maybe that's the sneaky way to do it. Engineer your power pedal axles to be close enough to Shimano, then sell an adapter of some sort. Or maybe Shimano laid the smackdown on Garmin for that...

@@JustRideAdelaide Garmin offered an optional kit to take out the electronics of the Vector 2 and install them into the Shimano Ultegra pedal body. Thus there was no license required as you would still be using the original Shimano pedals. This was a Vector 2 specific upgrade, but the electronics today are much more integrated and complex that I doubt we will ever see this kind of option again.

You barely touch on the fact that these can be easily home serviced, changing both pedal body and bearings. I have lived with Powertap pedals for years and have spent a fortune getting the bearings professionally replaced every 12-15k kms, this can only be done by a professional, cost €250 and takes several weeks each time as they must be sent to the UK. In contrast the Assioma bearings can be replaced in 20 mins at home for approx €40. This alone is a game changer IMO.

build in battery = dead in a year

Involuntary Soul mmmmmm two years in and my Assioma are still going strong? Must be something wrong with mine.I at least expected all the problems Garmin v3 have plus battery issues. But alas, I’ve not had any issues and they just keep on working... what a bummer

I hope not, my Ultegra DI2 6770 battery from 2012 still works perfectly. My experience with high-end cycling equipment so far is that they're well built..

I've had mine for almost two years. No noticable reduction in capacity yet... Let's say you have a 30 minute commute to work that you ride every weekday, that's one hour every day, and let's also say you ride an average of 5 hours every weekend. That's 10 hours a week, meaning the 50-60 hours of use per recharge will give you 5-6 weeks of use before needing to recharge. You'll be charging them 8-10 times per year. Now for some basics about lithium-ion batteries: You should charge them whenever you can, not only when you have to, they don't like to be totally discharged. But even if we abuse them like described above, running them flat every time, they will not have a noticably reduction in capacity until at least 200 recharges (typically 500-1000). That's 20 years of riding/recharging like in my example. Let's be pesimists and say the lifetime is HALF of that. 10 years! They will still probably outlive your bicycle, battery-wise.

Look cleats no thanks.

What's wrong with the Look style cleats? I've only ever used Shimano spd-sl. I'd like to know the downside with the Look since they appear to be very similar in design.

@@ayowser01 could be patent. Ive used look, time, shimano and i only use shimano and time now. Time are easy to get in andvout if a i like the float but cleats are expendive a nd wear fast if you walk on them. The shimano harder to click out from but thet last. The look keo i had were easy to get out of pity about the cleats
