I’m really enjoying your videos and learning a few things I didn’t know and I only live an hour from the Cotswolds. I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned but one of the houses you filmed in Blockley was very important for the US. Paxton House was the HQ for the Super Six division in 1943 and it’s where Eisenhower and Patton met to plan the Normandy landings. Keep up the good work! ❤

Beautifully and informatively presented Dara! Loved it. It is amazing how fictional detectives put villages like this on the map. One of the places I want to visit is Sicily because of Inspector Montalbano. Dang those pastries looked good. I think the order you showed them is pretty much how I'd have them. I'd get them all and use the excuse that it's for the whole family. But we know that isn't true. 😋 But I do love a good pastel de nata. 😋 We travelled to Portugal just for the tarts. 😂 Don't worry Portugal, you are amazing anyway but your tarts are icing on the cake. And there was a nod to Oz there too. Anzac caramel slice. Anzac cookies are definitely ours. As is a gooey caramel slice. I think the base of the slice of this one has been inspired by Anzac cookies. I do love a good caramel slice. 😋 Then they have the custard or jam filled donuts. I love a good jam or custard donut (but that's something I can actually make). 😋But then to top it off they have cruffins! I do love a good cruffin. 😋Some time in the next year of so I will have a couple of videos with cruffins we found on recent road trips. 😂 Have you tried cronuts? There used to be a place in Sydney we frequented that served a huge variety of cronuts - savoury as well as sweet - including a cronut burger! 😋 But wait, there's more. That was one of the most delightful looking cheese platters I've seen. I do love a good cheese platter. 😋 And of course scones. My mum still makes us scones with jam, butter and cream when we visit. I do love a good scone. 😋 I really want to try some of that butter though. I loved your chat with the "idiot". What a character. I had to google "devil's door". Fascinating. Now I know where I should enter these old churches. 😁 The Cotswalds look lovely. I'll have to add it to the bucket list. I think that is down to how wonderfully you presented it here. Thank you!

I love cheese platters, and this was a delicious one. So was the cream tea. Does your mum make her own clotted cream, or is it easy to fin in Oz? You need to visit the Cotswolds. No guarantee you'll find your own friendly village idiot, but they are gorgeous. Cheers! Dara

@@MagentaOtterTravels No need to find a village idiot. I bring my own. He's in the mirror every morning 😂Clotted cream isn't really a big thing here although it apparently becoming more popular. For scones we'd just used whipped cream or double thick. I like double thick 😋 Pasteis de nata or pastel de nata or the ones from Belem in Lisbon, pasteis de belem, aren't like any we can get almost anywhere else. Mostly they're good little custard tarts but the ones in Portugal are next level. Cheap too - around a Euro each. Whereas here they'd be 4ish bucks here. There is one place in Sydney that makes legit Belem style Portuguese tarts that are the equal of the ones in Portugal but even Sydney is 9 to 10 hours drive away now. We keep saying that the next time we go to Sydney we will definitely drop into Sweet Belem (the shop in Sydney). When we lived up there it was our Saturday morning treat. I think I know way to much about Portuguese tarts. 😂

I find it sad that villages such as Blockley have lost their banks, shops, chemists, postoffice and a pub, being able to walk to these amenities made the community life in the village. It seems that now they're more just 'dormitory towns and villages' People just drive in and out.

  • @MagentaOtterTravels
