Fat Rainbows in Jackson Meadows Reservoir (Tahoe National Forest)

The road to Jackson Meadows Reservoir was clear of snow finally so it was time to go hit it up for some trout fishing action.

    I love this lake. It is a little tough to reach, especially with the late snow on the road factor, but the quality of fish is outstanding.

    Trout in those snow/ice covered lakes are looking for anything that smells or moves when the ice goes out and before many "summer time" fishers are out pursuing them. Reminds me of ice out "early" spring lake trout fishing in Glennallen area of south central Alaska.

    It doesn't! What was great about this spot we were in was the trees behind us provided us with shade the entire time we were out there. Without that shade, no way I would have lasted that long!

    Reno Native here. Tried fishing slipsinkers with leaders at Frenchman’s the other weekend. Lost about 5 leaders because of the weight getting snagged on rocks upon retrieval.. I tried fast retrieve with the rod held high above my head, and nothing seemed to work. Any tips on how to prevent this? Anyway, I love your channel, Amani! Amazing wisdom from a master angler.

    Short of just moving to a new spot, I go lighter on my weight. If the water is deep enough close to shore, I might even go split shot. Just depends on what the depth is and time of year. Slip bobber could work from the other direction but tougher in the Summer because the fish will be deeper. Sometimes there is no answer!

    I tried there yesterday for 8 hours on a kayak and not even a bite. I tried jig, rapala and spoon. Seems like you always know where to cast. I’m convinced power bait and night crawlers is the only way for these trout around here.. any encouragement and advice is appreciated..

    Bait fishing from shore is great when the water is still cold and it's the way I usually fish in lakes during the coldest months of the year. We had luck early on this day and that was it. I don't think we got a single bite after 9am. I have a couple of clips for this lake on my lakes and reservoirs playlist.

    Cool video Amani. Where were you on the lake in relation to the dam?

  • @wildernesswithamani1027

    @wildernesswithamani1027

    Ай бұрын

    We were right down the shore from the dam. The lake is really high so the spots right near the dam are really steep and it would be a hassle to fish. If you are just going to throw lures, the dam is the spot to do it from what I have seen. When I set out to bait fish I'm looking to lounge so we found the first spot closest to the dam that was good for relaxing. We had tree shade the whole time we were there which was nice.

    It's paved the whole way. It just typically has snow you can't get over on it until the first week of June. It's an out of the way lake but the fishing is good when the water is cold.

  • @wildernesswithamani1027

    @wildernesswithamani1027

    25 күн бұрын

    I have no idea. I typically fish here once when the road first clears of snow and then once or twice in the late Fall before the snow arrives. I don't know much about the campgrounds other than they are closed when I'm there. I'd try to find some deep water near the dam or somewhere on the lake if you plan to fish from shore. Particulars on how I rig up can be found on my fishing tips playlist if you haven't seen that content and are interested.

    I vary my leader length and move my stuff in and out to various depths depending on what's going on. It was so deep in this spot I just kept both leaders around 4-5 feet. If I'm fishing shallower water, like 10 feet or less I could go down to 2-3 feet. I hit these fish only about 15 feet off the bank but the water was a 17 count so it was pretty deep and I just used one leader length today. I discuss leader length ion a lot of my videos on my lakes and reservoirs playlist and I have more insight on it in videos on my fishing tips playlist.

    Dude Armani wth? Your friend Eric is pretty dull. I know yall grew up together and he is your homie but what your channel needs is some BOOM!! Dude you should fish with me dawg! I fish the Truckee everyday. I catch like half the amount you do and fall twice as much! Im telling you we would make a double trouble bad dudes 4 Eva buckoo!! Hit em up, who shot ya! Truckee river trout tag team champions! Best duo since Kobe and $haq im talking the cheech n chong of the truckee!!! Or i will be your camera man for free for tips of the trade and let me fish a little off camera cool?!

    Right on. Eric isn't very flashy. More so when the camera isn't running. I'm fishing more with him now because his kids are both in college so he actually has time to go again. I think I can provide all of the boom my channel needs! How many people do you need practically yelling out his thoughts in a video! Say hi if I see you. I enjoy chatting with my viewers for a bit when I encounter them in the field. If you fish the Truckee every day it's bound to happen. Especially when it's colder.
