We are a society that tolerates excess, wether it is food booze steroids etc. Shaped by the algorithm, people are fed content condoning these terrible things and we have become too polite to tell people in person that they can make healthy easy changes to their lives for their own betterment and for society at larges benefit.

I wish more people in fat acceptance could understand this. It's the same if you go to any restrictive eating disorder communities that are not proana/mia. There will be plenty of people there to tell you that dying of anorexia or bulimia is NOT beautiful.

I disagree. There can be nothing more condescending or demeaning to a person who is morbidly obese than being "encouraged " to lose weight because however well intentioned, it is a judgment, and implies they are too stupid not to realize they have a problem. That's very different than supporting someone who has chosen the path to healing

My cousin was of the mindset to 'embrace her fatness' and she claimed that the doctors did not know what they were talking about with regards to her health. She was a know-it-all and thought she knew what was best for her. She died in her mid 30's at over 400lbs. Her glucose level was so high (600+) and they could not get it under control.

If you're overweight or obese, please don't fret about losing weight overnight. I'm and RN and I know that doctors and dieticians recommend setting realistic goals. The first recommended goal is to lose 10% of your total body weight. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, then your first weight loss goal will be to lose 20 pounds. Research shows that losing 10% of your body weight will decrease your risk of health problems SIGNIFICANTLY, especially cardiovascular health. This 10% weight loss will decrease the risk of hypertension, stroke, heart attack, diabetes, insulin resistance, fatty liver disease, and joint pain/damage (especially in the knees). It would be great if you could get a physical exam every time you achieve a weight loss goal. This way you can compare your numbers such as cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, heart rate, liver enzymes, hemoglobin A1C, etc. Seeing these numbers decreasing 2-3 times a year can be very motivating and can help keep you on track with your weight loss plan.

I've been doing this, and the way I've found to achieve this is with a fitness coach. I was 105kg back in November, I began weight training and put on nutrition plan with my trainer since December, and I've now finally lost my first 10kg weighing 94.9kg on Saturday. First weight loss achieved💪👊 and onto the next. I couldn't have done this without my coach, because there's this whole mental journey to unpack, and unlearn years of habits, and learning from mistakes to form better habits. The other thing about having a coach, is just being answerable to someone. Making a decision because you're tired or had a bad day, changes when you have your Saturday checking with your coach. I'm on a program with 1 weekly checking with my coach, and a weekly schedule of workouts on their app that I check off in my own time, during my workout. I also have to report to the headcoach once a week answering a questionnaire - assessing mental well being, water daily intake, sleep, problems, issues, wins, etc. I've found this to be a great level of hand holding, while also giving me the freedom to train to my own schedule. I have faith doing this journey slowly but surely is going to be the most impact full for life long longevity. Plus I already feel pretty good, and in much happier headspace. This is the best thing I have done for myself.

Yup! My cousin has told me to take a plate and do smaller portions. I have been over eating for a while and it is a nice start, to get an idea on what to do. My cousin knows I fill the plate, so he said just a smaller portion size. This has helped a lot in how much I eat, slipped a bit but sticking to the smaller portions. This helps get the calories down since I been going over the daily calories each day which does not lead to weight loss, I do hard labour and only maintained my weight. So what I ate and lost balanced out. Now it is going up and down, so I need to be careful on only eating a meal no snacks. I worry less about not eating carbs etcetera. I feel better eating less, and my cousin said I look big does not mean I should eat big. This makes more sense to me now being older :D I went from 240 to 210, but my doctor sees it as 196 to 210. I gained weight during the year and went down, so that is a win for me!

There are many "feeling good" ways around... I'm sure that smoking cigarettes, overdoing alcohol, and eating ice cream (and soda / pop / soda pop) too much all are part of it. You "feel good" for a season, and then the "sweetness" fades, and you need a bigger high to get the same thing because you're not as sensitive to it. I've felt it... Much. But my negative side was with video games and computer use at night, instead of food. Meanwhile, when I "fasted" on a specific video game for 3.5 years and then came back, I was not expecting such a rush. Though since then, what else happened but it got normal again? And overdoing it is still just as stupid, just in another way that harms a person.

Nearly18 yrs ago I broke my patella (Knee) and had to have physio in hospital swimming pool to teach me how to walk . Then I graduated to the gym to complete my rehab. No person who was overweight ever got further than the swimming pool exercises as their weight was too much for their shattered bones, so maybe they never learnt how to walk again. It was this experience that taught me that being overweight could seriously damage your health .

When I was a young teenager in the mid 2000s, there was an employee I met in his late 60s or early to mid 70s at a hardware store. He was fat, somewhere around 220 - 240 pounds, and even _he_ was having trouble breathing as he was sounding hard of breath. I have no idea what his diet was, but if it was McDonald's even then, I don't think it was helping. I don't know if he smoked, to be fair - but he didn't smell of cigarettes.

I will be happy when the day finally arrives when our culture decides to stop considering the highest compliment they can give a woman is "You're BEAUTIFUL!!" Women (and men) are worthy of recognition of SO MUCH MORE than their physical appearance. The Body Positivity Movement has twisted itself into advocating THIN SHAMING and embracing obesity, which is so wrong and unhealthy. I am a woman in my 60s and in recent years have worked hard to maintain a healthy weight to protect my joints, heart, etc. A few heavier women in my age group have seen nothing wrong with calling me a "skinny b*tch," etc. in an effort to shame me for not being "matronly" like they have become. What is WRONG with this culture that we think it's okay to kill ourselves by being OBESE?!!

But, I agree with the thought that ENCOURAGING someone by saying 'you're beautiful, you're beautiful' and nothing more is toxic 'support'. A first concern for their health should be highlighted, IMHO.

She can now eat whenever and wherever she wants, and has difficulty controlling herself. Actually, she has no self-control. She learned in middle school “people have to accept me for who I am!” Um, no! They don’t. And it’s so unhealthy to be that overweight. 💔I’m heartbroken that she has done this to herself. Overeating is a psychological issue- mostly. I had an eating disorder in my twenties and much of it was eating to "self-soothe." As I became emotionally healthy, I didn't need to binge and starve. Most of these women need to deal with deep seated emotional issues to lose the weight. A "normal" eater eats when they're hungry_ AND, stops when they are satisfied.

A very courageous video...finally someone who openly and fairly speaks out about this subject. I can not believe that any obese to morbidly obese person is truly 'happy' and 'accepting' self. If they had a magic wand, I am very sure they would wave it to be a healthier weight. This trend to praise self obesity acceptance is for me toxic as you mentioned. I agree with your thoughts on this too. Everybody has a right to be the size they feel comfortable in, yes. But to give out 'pretend praise' to an obviously unhealthy person is not helping them. Talk to them about your concern for their health and shortened life. Talk to them about metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance. Once you reach a certain metabolic inbalance, it is no longer a matter of eat less...but a matter of a serious metabolic reset to save their lives.

I think cooking from scratch (use unprocessed fresh vegetables and meat) and avoid “ready to eat” products in plastic packages with added sugar, avoid soft drinks and fruit juice goes a long way to become healthier. What we have nowadays in the stores is so much fake foods (little to no nutrients). I think we just need to choose real food instead of this nutrient void “food”. That way - we are eating to satiety. Remember that your body is trying to tell you something, if you’re hungry after two hours, that means the food you ate had no real nutrition - so your body screams for nutrition through hunger hormone grehlin.

The other thing that doesn’t help is the unhealthy nature of modern jobs. Sedentary office work with an “everyday is a feast day” type of mindset. For those of you who have ever been in an office environment, than you know what I’m talking about. Eat out at lunch everyday with your friends instead of bringing from home. Every birthday on the team needs to be celebrated! (With sheet cake and take out pizza in generous portion), to say nothing of all the trivial (just because!) reasons to have a full on potluck. Call centers are the worst. I also think that many jobs are intentionally designed to enslave and keep people fat/sick so that people HAVE to go to work (ie the medical benefits). Just my .02 cents

We really need to draw a distinction between "being "overweight" and being morbidly obese. These terms can't be applied in the same way, because God knows, social media has had a profound influence on weight, body size, individual body parts etc. One is a societal construct, the other is a serious, multifaceted illness, the biggest part of which is mental health, so yes, I believe it needs to be addressed, but probably best done by someone who has been there, and come out the other side.

You need to eat an extra 3,500 calories (above what your body needs to function) to put on 1lb of fat. I just can't imagine the amount of food the ladies you showed in your video would have had to consume daily, weekly, yearly to become so morbidly obese. I do get very angry when I see young children that are obese, and to be honest I see it as a form of child cruelty as the parents are setting their children up to a life of ill health, early death. It is so, so sad. Education, education at a young age is very much needed.

I get it, being very unhappy at a job I hated too and gained alot of weight. Wound up in the hospital for 6 days with blood clots in my lungs and pneumonia. That was my wake up call, I lost 75 lbs it took 1.5 years. Whatever route you go, one thing that kept me going was on the days I messed up, I didn't beat myself up, tomorrow is a new day so I just started over, if I again messed up on that day, I started again the next day. Oh and I only weighed myself once every 3 weeks this way I didn't get discouraged cause I saw a loss, whether it was 1 lbs or 7 lbs.

In my late teens & 20’s I binged on fashion magazines. I compared myself to the stick thin models. I was thin but I was not the height of the models. I aspired to be like them but accepted it was not realistic. I eat healthy & exercise. Most importantly I respect my body and realize eating junk food does not provide the fuel necessary to lead a healthy life.

Especially with it now being so prevalent within the beauty community. Seeing obese women on the cover of swimsuit magazines makes me not want to purchase items from those companies because they’re just encouraging people to be unhealthy. It’s important to love yourself, 100%, then again, part of self love is knowing when you need to make changes. Thank you again! Love your content. 🖤

Drinking Red Bull is NOT healthy. 🤔 This is such a sensitive topic. I do deeply appreciate the message of body positivity. So much to say about this. 😢 So many have problems with weight loss surgery and that is so sad. Needing to use a walker bc of weight is tragic. Dying young bc of weight is horrific. I totally empathize with everything you’re saying. I agree 100%. AND… this is a deeply multifaceted issue that isn’t as simple as what you eat. I’m not claiming to know all the answers. In fact, just a few minutes ago I was glancing at a medical journal article talking about genetics related to weight. I personally think many people compliment overweight people to counteract all the extremely cruel comments. It feels horrible to be obese. I’ve struggled with my weight all my life. And, as I look back over my 50 yrs, I look at pictures of myself (and there aren’t many) where I think I should’ve been much kinder to myself about my weight. Now I’m going to say something educated that a lot of people won’t understand: I have a very serious and rare connective tissue disorder (vEDS) that makes managing weight incredibly hard. I have another rare medical disorder called MCAS that restricts and complicates diet, exercise, and my whole life!! Because of my very serious life threatening genetic condition with no cure, I am limited absolutely 100% to only walking for exercise and even with that, my heart rate cannot get above 122. And that restriction exists for me regardless of what I weigh. There are so many complications here, and no one wants or needs my life story. My point is-be careful how you judge “fat people”. You make think “all you have to do is..” but that’s not always the case. No one wants to be fat. And I for one don’t want to be shamed and ashamed every minute of my life. This is definitely a real issue. Health is my own top priority. And it looks different to everyone. I appreciate you for talking about this topic respectfully. It’s so emotional-especially to those of us who are obese. One last thought regarding the video clip of the woman who lost weight. I think it’s absolutely sensational to hear and watch weight loss stories! So inspiring!! ❤ But tone is everything. Think of it like this: To all those who spent years smoking then overcame that habit-how does cigarette smoke smell to you now? Some of the most critical people out there are ones who’ve been down the road and conquered. It seems like those people would be less judgmental and more encouraging. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have never observed anyone lose weight as a result of unsolicited advice, especially if the advice is coming from someone not qualified to give it. What I do think is important is to provide support when someone has chosen to make changes that enhance their health.

This is terrible but so true, Frédérique!!! Acceptance and glorification are not the same. Losing weight is really hard and as a slim person I'm clueless about the suffering involved but this unhealthy trend that glorifies obesity is causing a lot of harm. I lost a childhood friend at the age of 45. She just ignored her problem for ages and would not hear anyone in spite of all the difficulties and limitations she faced everyday. Her body couldn't stand such long-term abuse, new health problems showed up and eventually she passed away.

I note that many severely overweight people I have known do not know how to eat. So even though some of these women may have underlying disease that makes them very overweight, maybe for the rest education is the key. Part of the education must be as mikel.photoz says: value women for more than some concept of "beauty." I am in the same age group as mikel. and have never had a weight problem until recently. When I realized I was getting overweight, I began to learn about feeding myself. It is not a matter of "beauty;" it's a matter of health.

Where is Body positivity when you are having Health complications or when you die from your weight just like so many influencers in this community? They say love yourself but then they are silent when you are battling health issues and have died from weight-related health issues? I am so glad that I am on the weightloss journey! The FA can reject me and call me fatphobic because I lost weight and don't want to endure something that could have me die a quicker and painful death just like so many FA influencers that died under the age of 50. Tess holiday would have been the same age as me had she been alive today. She realized it unfortunately before it was too late because her body basically shut down on her because of all the things she was going through.

I managed to lose 50 to 60 lb since August of last year but then I went out of plateau on November through December because of hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's and once I began treatment again and been eating my healthy diet I managed to lose more weight. I went from a size 20 w heading towards a 22 to now a size 12 heading towards a size 10! I don't have a problem with overweight or obese people but I do have a problem with them glorifying it because it is not healthy. Losing weight is not just losing your physical weight but adapting to a new lifestyle that is healthier and realistic for you. Being comfortable doesn't get you far and having you accepting the things that you should be changing and when you take that step that is the day you start moving forward! You are going to have setbacks but it's how you get up that counts and it also takes a lot of testing your body to see which diet and exercise is best adapt with you. But definitely change your portion size and don't eat a ton of sugars Breads and pastries in the specially fried foods and cereals!

I had ears that were 90 degrees, they were sticking out.. for 25 years I had problem with that, could not wear pony tail like other kids, and as a girl that was problem, kids teasing, problem later with confidence.. then I started to think.. hey these are my ears.. I can hear on both of them, they serve purpose, actually I have amazing hearing.. and then gradually I started wearing hair up, and that to me is body positivity.. I was born with those ears.. they served me well but by aesthetics they are not acceptable by people.. then in my 30s I decided that I do corrective surgery.. and that is it.. love your body.

Excellent topic. I live in the USA and talking about weight is an issue. Obesity is number one issue in the USA. Being French I was never thin, considered chubby in France . Size 12. Here in the USA, I am considered normal weight. In reality I am overweight, I know that I need to lose some weight, which is hard with PCOS and pre menopause. Anytime I address it, doctors here laugh at me, just saying, "But you are great. Be positive about it. I want to lose weight not for my look but health !! Weight is an issue in America, and addressing it, is always because they think you are not positive about yourself. It has nothing to do with self-love. I just know that weight brings in issues for when you get older.

If someone with a body quite, quite less than beautiful wants to like or even love her body, let her do so. It's none of my business - as long as you don't start flaunting this body in public demanding that everyone, including me, like your body. Sorry, but that is the epitome of insolence and unacceptable. Think what you like in private, but stop strutting like a peacock with a body that gives others the shivers. This new narcissistic "Me, My, Mine, I" Mentality is a sad product of our therapeutic-era. It is doomed to die a natural death for the simple reason that it can have no future. John Keats said, "A thing of Beauty is a joy forever, its lovliness increases, it will never pass into Nothingness.." But a thing far from Beauty will have the exact opposite fate. So, it's a waste of your time and ours to insist upon displaying what brings no joy to anyone :-) What we need today is a little modesty, a touch of sweet humility - which can be so charming in a person, and which is far more attractive and disarming than this over-confident artificial sassiness that is so completely out of touch with reality.

I always thought that body positivity influencers give you tips on how to do exercises that wouldn't kill you as a chubby person (because of the discs and knees), tips on clothing, etc. Since some people are chubby (disposition, illness, Menopause). ...) and tips like this would be great and helpful. Because even as someone who isn't really slim, you want to be reasonably fit and look good :) But all you see from these influencers is that they eat unhealthy things -.-

Body positivity is about being the best version of yourself, not the worst or an unrealistic version of yourself. That is exactly right! Its not about eating too much, its a wholistic approach.. the body is shielding its self, its a form of self abuse... Its so not easy, but you have to work things out & learn or reprogram yourself.. Im working on this myself.. the right way to think is its not about my body.. ftoo fat or too thin, but it should be about my health. Just losing or gaining 5kg can make a big difference. For overweight or too thin you really are putting strain on the body. For overweight people dieting doesn't work.. you need like a too thin person, a lifestyle change & workout why you are overweight... work out stress, abuse ect.. For me IF, & low carb with good fats & plenty of protein's is working for myself & its also helping a lot of others.. to not only lose weight, but lower cholesterol, put diabetes type2 in remission, lower blood pressure & help mental health & sleep! Cooking at home is the best... easy simple healthy meals, drinking mainly water, if out I might have a glass of champagne (LC) Less highly processed food, seed oils & no sugar... I had a real sweet tooth.. so this was my hardest, but now I can have a cuppa & not miss the sugar, occasionally a small treat like a bit of cake or pastry, not denying myself completely... these now taste super sweet to me, so I only need a bit! My go to dessert at home is greek yoghurt or whip cream with berries, or just a piece of cheese just to finish off my meal! I surprise myself now & feel proud that I can now if I want to eat one meal a day (OMD) mostly I'm 2 OMAD I now eat to live, not live to eat!

It’s very much a 1st world problem, not a 3rd world problem. Junk food in 1st world countries is cheap, fast and easy to give to a child to spoil them when you don’t have time to spend with them! The child is alone and spends the evening with a big packet of chips for companionship and maybe a creepy neighbor next door who is giving them some sexual attention . In Africa, it takes a village to raise a child. Addictive things are readily available in the west. Food, drugs and alcohol. In Africa they are scarce! Highly doubt everyone you meet with obesity would tell you that they were sexually assaulted…

@@MiwaTamu Your right , all these people sound like Dr. Phil if your fat he said once you must have been sexually abused . I eat healthy my cholesterol is perfect , even a doctor asked me how I stay so healthy even iron a bit high all levels perfect. Some things are hereditary , my family all slim eat same as me even more . If people truly understood doctors would know how to solve fat but they don’t experts don’t know . Those morbidly obese I don’t know why they are but I wouldn’t say they must have been sexually abused. I’m tired of all the videos just showing clothes for perfectly slim people. Please why do t they show all these celebrities and models dying because they are too thin. Starving themselves

At least Dr Phil is a licensed psychologist, so he would have experience working with people with food addictions. I used to judge morbidly obese people too. I thought they were all just greedy pigs who ate too much without caring, until I realized they usually have gone through something very traumatizing to get that big!. Doesn’t help we live in a society that glorifies fast food either.

@@MiwaTamuthey didn't say abuse couldn't happen to anyone, they just said a lot of people who become morbidly obese have traumatic pasts, which is usually true, because many of them do have binge eating disorder. Trauma exponentially increases the chances someone develops an eating disorder. It applies to anorexia and bulimia as well, you will be incredibly hard pressed to find someone with either of those who has not gone through trauma as a child. It just manifests in different ways. People who binge eat or grotesquely overeat feel as if they have had no control in their lives, so that promotes them to push that mindset onto everything including food. Why would I try to control my life if I feel I've never had that ability. For people with restrictive disorders it's the opposite. I haven't had control in my life, and this is something I can have complete control over, and nobody can take that from me. Sincerely someone with anorexia. It is important not to keep a victim mindset, but it's just a neutral statement to say that people who end up on the extremes of the eating spectrum are often using it as a coping mechanism.

I’m from the Southern US and a majority of my family are obese, it’s actually interesting how that messes with your mind. I became scared of food and gaining weight and I started restricting and overly exercising. I dropped to 78 lbs (35.4 kg) and was placed in inpatient. The wildest thing is a lot of the people I met there with EDs also came from families where a lot of members were obese. It was like we saw what awaited us and we went so hard in the opposite direction that we still ended up hurting ourselves bc of food.

I feel like obesity is almost being glamorized. I wonder 100 years from now what the average body size/shape will be. Every decade it seems this changes. It seems mothers kind of use weight not lost after pregnancy as a status. Among my age group and those a little older this is my observation. Be healthy, focus on balanced diet and moving and try not to worry about what bodies are... I guess you could say IN. For example I have no butt and I'm totally okay with that. As a runner I think that is a good thing actually

Thank you for addressing this sensitive but very important subject. Obesity is not healthy; and, with very few exceptions, something that is in the power of the person to reverse.

Thank you Frederique, this is sooooo true!!!! And I do not think every body should be celebrated online!!!! For me body positivity is about celebrating healthy choice and embracing healthy looking women and men. And Frederique, I am sorry ,I live in the UK and men with their beer bellies need to lose weight as much as us women... I am very fit and lucky to struggle to put on weight (hopefully it will never change) but when I see men constantly judging women and not taking care of themselves I am fuming... My message: Men, watch out your beer bellies and work on it !!!
