FAST REVIEW | Solo Pi FIRE, Turns Fire Pit Into Pizza Oven

The Solo Pi FIRE (not to be confused with the Solo Pi - their full standalone pizza oven) is a new attachment to be used with the Solo Stove fire pits.
The idea is to use the firepit's flames to heat the dome of the Pi Fire. In my tests, the stone temperature fluctuated between 530F and 670F, depending on how recently you added wood. However, when cooking a pizza at the higher end of that range, I typically found there to be too much smoke, resulting in some unpleasant soot on the pizza itself.
At the 550F range, the Solo Pi Fire cooked pizzas very similar to a home oven on a steel (without the broiler) or in a grill with a pizza stone, but really did seem to offer a little more smoky flavor. The bottoms turned out wonderfully, but the top lacked color. The end result was still a tasty pizza, but you can't expect the results a real standalone pizza oven can achieve.
You will ONLY want to make NY style pizzas (bread flour doughs) and not 00 flour/Neapolitan, because of the lower heat.
The big selling point is the fun aspect. My kids enjoyed cooking pizza in this more than my other pizza ovens. But it's also tailormade for camping. I will definitely be using this again in the summer months to sit around a campfire and make some pizzas with - but I won't expect it to outperform my portable gas-powered pizza ovens.
The cost is up there - but it does come with a high quality cover and heat-resistant gloves. If you already own a Solo Stove, this could be a fun weekend gadget.

    I returned mine. I already had the Ooni Koda 16 and got this to use RVing . I also had the uneven cooking issue comparing top of pizza vs bottom. The heat distribution was very unstable if there was any wind. I really wanted to like it. Great review.
