    Doug, can you do a behind the scenes video on how you built up a nest egg to finance your amazing lifestyle or how you overcome money worries. Plus some insight on how you maintain positivity with your lifestyle full of uncertainties. Please continue to share your journals on Wordpress or whatever forum suits you best. Your writing style strikes me as fascinating.

    Thank you for sharing ‘the days of your life’. I’m missing the behind the scenes videos. Watching you sit comfortably and ramble has become like therapy for me. Please share the anxieties you overcome and how you do it. Hope funding is still robust.

    Unfortunately, I haven't been able to keep up with the Behind-the-Scenes videos. I still wake up every morning and start the day with a journal session. That's my routine. And I'd love to do that on video. However, shooting the video is the easy part. The problem comes when I try to upload anything. I can barely track down good enough WiFi to upload regular videos. It's very difficult to upload anything at the moment. And to do a regular behind-the-scenes feature would be impossible without really fast WiFi for uploading. So far, I've been struggling with finding WiFi that works well enough. It's so slow. It can take days just to upload a normal video. 🙂

    Another vlogger A-Train Travel also had a similar situation with Malaysian Immigration crossing over from Thailand at the border with Thailand. He had a tough time explaining before he was let into Malaysia. He has previously done a lot of vlogs on Malaysia while he was here several months ago just like you. Malaysians have a soft spot for KZreadrs doing vlogs on Malaysia. Immigration officers too. In a situation like yours you should have mentioned you were a You Tuber and showed them your vlogs you have done on Malaysia and your ordeal would have been short and sweet with a pleasant ending. The fact is, the Immigration officers have no idea of your background other than that of a visitor on a visit pass. Hence, they take the hardline approach to it, when someone tries to do a visa run. I have helped many Indonesian friends cross the border into Betong Thailand, and return into Malaysia withing an hour, getting a one month visit pass for free on my 1st trip. (Citizens of ASEAN countries get a 30 day visit pass for free on arrival, within ASEAN countries provided one can meet some conditions set, like financial ability). In subsequent trips, I have seen the Immigration officers enforcing new conditions. I have extended visit passes two or more times for some individuals using this exit and enter method. One could get a Special Pass to extend stay beyond the 30 days. This is given at the discretion of the Immigration Officer. It could be for a day or more not exceeding 30 days for a fee of RM 100.00.

    What was Indomal Dynasty's cruising speed? Imagine arriving and being denied entry, but then also being denied re-entry into Malaysia?!! I think waiting until your visa expires is not a wise move. Happy Festivus!

    Hi Doug , great travel adventure. I enjoyed watching it. Indonesians are very friendly and sociable and a bit (talkative) and that is what I love about them. BTW , look for the words Wisma (guest house) and Kos (boarding house ) if you are looking for a budget accommodation. Thank you and have a safe Travel🙏

    1:11:08 that was close, almost touched. Highlights of this extended version is immigration story. You made a right choice of not doing a visa run by doing a Sumatra bike tour. Your extended stay in Thailand does triggered a red flag for immigration officer.

    Looking forward to see what Dumai is like. I have thought about taking the ferry across from Melaka to Dumai but didn't think it was worth the trouble because there is nothing much to do in Dumai.

    I think for a normal person, Dumai might not be that interesting. I really liked it there, though. I enjoy hanging out in regular towns like that. And Dumai was more interesting than most for me because it is on the water and has all the ferry traffic. But it's not a town that is oriented towards tourism or anything like that. It's just normal Sumatran life. 🙂

    Wow seems like Malaysia is getting strict on visas they made it very expensive to get a retirement visa I guess they don’t want people just doing border runs on a tourist visa to live there full time Funny people living in Vietnam on tourist visas they have to do visa runs to Cambodia every 30 but just have to step into Cambodia and walk back into Vietnam getting stamped in for another 30 days Vietnam doesn’t care how many tourist visas you get Amazing camera work Doug that must be some kind of special camera

    Is it safe to travel through Sumatra and is immigration easy into Malaysia for Australian citizen,? Thanks heaps

  • @PlanetDoug

    @PlanetDoug

    3 ай бұрын

    It felt very safe to me. I've spent a lot of time in Sumatra since I shot this video. And I was in Sumatra for long periods of time before I even started shooting video. I did some long trips on a touring bicycle and I travelled by train and bus and scooter. And I stayed in big cities AND in small towns and villages. And I never had any trouble at all except that on my very first visit, a guy on a motorcycle stole my phone. He was part of an organized team of snatch thieves. But it always felt safe to me. When you ask about immigration, do you mean actual immigration? To move to Malaysia and live and work there? If so, I can't really say. I have no experience with that. But for an Australian to come as a tourist, it's very simple. Australians don't require a visa to visit Malaysia. You can get a simple 90-day entry stamp at the airport when you land. There's no charge for this. And you don't have to apply for it. You simply hand over your passport to the immigration officer, answer a couple of questions, and they will stamp you in for 90 days. The one requirement is that you MUST fill out an online Arrival Card before your trip (within 3 days of your arrival). But it's a simple form that asks only for your name, passport number, flight details, and name of your hotel.

    Indonesians are generally very helpful if you approach them. But if anyone approach you trying to be friendly, then you better be caution. You are fortunate that fella in H&M T-shirt thought that your GoPro is CCTV. Else, you will surely be robbed by that fella. Try to avoid that guy please.

    No, I don't think you can take this ferry without a passport. Boarding the ferry is exactly the same as going to an airport and boarding a plane. They check your documents at check-in, and then you have to present them at immigration. Without a passport, you wouldn't be able to take this boat to Indonesia.

  • @PlanetDoug

    @PlanetDoug

    Жыл бұрын

    You are very right about that. My arrival in Tanjung Balai was quite chaotic and stressful that first time. I remember that was the time when they insisted on going through my phone and looking at my pictures. They wanted to make sure that I was telling the truth about being a tourist, and they wanted to see typical tourist-type pictures. Luckily, there were enough pictures like that on my phone to convince them. And I remember the time I spent that tiny room with all the people, and all the luggage being opened and everything being searched very carefully. It was certainly a bigger adventure than going through customs and immigration in Port Dickson and Dumai. It was much easier in Dumai.
