Fashion Iceberg Challenge, How Deep Does My Knowledge Go?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Stare long enough into the fashion abyss, and the fashion abyss stares back into you. Into today's egg-citing episode, I take a look at the Fashion Iceberg (challenge) curtesy of Karsten Kroening of @meme_saint_laurent and @vennvzhlv.
Concept is simple enough, at the tip of the iceberg is are the brands everyone knows, but the further you go the more obscure it gets. I take on the challenge to see if I'm a real fashion expert. As you might guess, hijinks ensue and I spend a lot of time debating the placement of each brand (to myself).
LMK if I completely miss-interpret something or what crazy obscure brands you might include.

Hey there! Creator of the tier list here! Im very glad you reviewed it and glad for the criticism provides! Yes, its very European and I will work on improving it and updating further! Thats why current version is 1.2 right now. The main idea of a tier list was to make less about “obscure mumbo jumbo shit” and more of Resources/Effort/Dedication required to know about a specific brand about finding out information about it, acquiring the actual pieces, and monetary issues. Thats why brands like Dior and Prada are in the middle. Its relatively easy to find a lot of designer interviews and general information + you can get it through second hand or in general stores. But you still need to be dedicated enough to go out of your way to want a Prada shoe/pant/jacket and wear it. While brands like CCP, MA+ or even Walter, require more information gathering and are a bit harder to acquire compared to conventional Prada and Dior. I know a lot of people will disagree with this tier list, but am still happy that we can agree in some parts! And I wish you all a great day!

I grew up in small town Middle America so I remember when we FIRST got an H&M back in 2010 or 2011 and it was one of the most exciting times of my youth, I'd only seen pictures of H&M's clothing online and wished the US could at least get stuff shipped here. However, now that I've been to Europe a handful of times, I have been to some H&M's that are just super super basic, but the best one I've ever been to was in Zürich back in 2009, very avant garde menswear, very impressive.

I would argue that soloist should’ve been moved up a tier. But saying soloist and n(n) should switch places, is absolutely ludicrous. N(n) being Takahiros old brand doesn’t mean anything, at least not when it’s one of the most popular “archive” brands. Just look at how much n(n) there is on the likes of Grailed and JawnFlip.

Burberry is as much a fashion house as Gucci or Versace.. based on your reasoning, the same could go for a girl with a Gucci or LV handbag in high school.. I'm into fashion fashion for real and Burberry's collections.. like runway items go for as much, if not more than, Givenchy, Gucci or Versace and is even harder to get at retailers. Many more retailers offer brands like Balenciaga, Versace, Givenchy that don't even carry Burberry, Dior, or LV.. In all honesty.. there just needs to be like 1 or 2 more tiers.. too many brands and labels.. and crossovers with some. Supreme is easily tier 2 if not tier 1, depending on what you buy, along with brands like Stussy, Chinatown Market, Guess, Carhartt WIP, Neighborhood, Ice Cream, BBC. A Supreme shirt can go for as low as a Nike T or Gap T at retail. Its the resale numbers that bloat it. and then there's the collabs they have that expand their prices as well. Brands like C.P Company and Heron Preston would be around each other where as Stone Island would be Closer to Off-White.. But Moncler should def be a tier down as well as Balmain.. no where near TNF Even newer brands like Palm Angels or Amiri can tread into older fashion houses' domain like Balmain or D&G and vice versa. I own Balmain shirts that teeter more on the streetwear spectrum and there is Amiri items that look very very high fashion. I def wouldn't put MSGM in the same Boat as D&G AT ALL.. MSGM is closer to GCDS, Emporio Armani, Kenzo, CDG Play, Hugo Boss, Maison Kitsuné, Kith and Helmut Lang (which is waaay lower than it should be). Saks off 5th sells Helmut Lang at like 70% off as well as Cavali and Karl Lagerfeld lol.. Id say DKNY, French Connection, Polo Ralph Lauren would fit in that same group as well.. depending if you're buying foreign vs domestic D&G should be in the fashion houses with Versace and Gucci. Then theres brands like Phillip Plein, Kenzo, Lanvin, Dsquared2, Moschino, BAPE, Ami Paris, Aimé Leon Dore, Human Made/ Dryalls etc that I didn't even see on the list at all. Brands like Casablanca, C.P. Company, Stone Island cant be overlooked either..

also, this is kind of a meme, i dont't think this is supposed to "rank" those brands, it's just ranking people wearing it from like an outside perspective, like the lower you go, the "darker" and more "obscure" it gets, dk how to explain it.....at least i guess im not sure it could be fr.You're probably too invested into fashion and really have a lot of knowledge about a lot of those designers to actually find this tier any funny.
